So, Norm MacDonald Is Now Playing Kentucky Fried Chicken’s Colonel Sanders

August 23, 2015
Uncategorized
colonel sanders, kentucky fried chicken, kfc, norm macdonald

Though Darrell Hammond made a fine Colonel Sanders for Kentucky Fried Chicken, there seems to be more layers and complications to KFC’s latest ad campaign.

This week, Norm MacDonald has now filled the role of Colonel Sanders claiming that Hammond’s version of Sanders is a hoax. What this has to do explicitly with selling fried chicken is a little unclear at this point, but we do hope this gets weirder and weirder.

Watch one of Norm’s Colonel Sanders spots here.

Norm MacDonald Performs His Final Set and Gives a Very Heartfelt Goodbye on Letterman

Uncategorized
cbs, david letterman, norm macdonald, the late show

For all the antics and absurd things that Norm MacDonald says and does, a moment of 100% irony free, tender sentiment from him is priceless and rare.

However, in the beginning of a valediction to David Letterman on last night’s Late Show, Norm got really vulnerable and took his time, not for comedic effect, to express his gratitude for Dave and all that he’s done for comedy as well as his favorite Letterman joke.

Norm also had a nice, great stand-up set too.

Watch it all here.

Here’s The Trailer For Season 9 of “Last Comic Standing” That Now Really Does Include Norm MacDonald and Anthony Jeselnik

If you’re wondering what Anthony Jeselnik as the host and Norm MacDonald as a judge on Last Comic Standing, wonder no more.

As you can see from this trailer, they really are there.

We’re thoroughly intrigued to see what peanuts of wisdom Norm hands out as well as Jeselnik will adjust to hosting a stand-up competition. Hopefully, they’ll unapologetically be themselves (or their on stage personas).

You can also catches glimpses of some great comedy folks including Nate Craig, Andy Erikson, Tony Baker, Ms. Pat, Lizzy Cooperman, Moses Storm, Junior Stopka, Nick Youssef, Ali Wong, Chris Fairbanks, and way more.

We’ll find out when the ninth season of Last Comic Standing premieres on Wed. July 22nd at 9pm on NBC.

Norm MacDonald Enjoys His Last Appearance on Letterman and Takes a Souvenir

Norm MacDonald is just being Norm MacDonald, which is why you should be watching this right now.

Letterman’s exit is just over two months away and Norm made sure to not only notch in another classic Norm late night appearance with a story about “Mr. Baseball” Bob Uecker, but he also made sure to take a special gift from the Ed Sullivan Theater to remember his time there.

Full disclosure: we’re not sure how he got said gift out of the place.

Anthony Jeselnik Will Host and Norm MacDonald Will Be a Judge on The Next Season of “Last Comic Standing”

March 12, 2015
Uncategorized
anthony jeselnik, last comic standing, norm macdonald

(via The Wrap)

Anthony Jeselnik will be taking the place of J.B. Smoove and Norm MacDonald will do the same for Russell Peters and we can only hope and pray that makes for some fun quick burns and moments that won’t be unlike when Andy Kindler was a judge on Last Comic Standing all those years ago.

This is a very intriguing move and could possibly be a much needed jolt to the franchise. The back-and-forth between the remaining judges Roseanne Barr and Keenen Ivory Wayans and Norm and Jeselnik could potentially be a show by itself.

We’ll have to wait this Summer on NBC.

The SNL 40th Anniversary Special Brings Back “Celebrity Jeopardy”, Got 23 Million People Watching, and Is Perfect Boost For SNL App

The Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special was the gigantic, nostalgic whirlwind of a walk down Studio 8H that we were led to believe it was.

Cast members, hosts, writers, etc. from the show in 1975 until now were in attendance to pay homage to SNL not only as a show, but a cultural institution.

There was a big ol’ musical revue kicked off by Martin Short and Maya Rudolph as Beyonce, Weekend Update anchored by Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Jane Curtin, a touching In Memoriam tribute (that also has a pretty great burn at the end), and rare glimpses into auditions of SNL cast members as well as some folks that should have been cast members like Stephen Colbert.

Also, SNL’s Celebrity Jeopardy lived once more, complete with Darrell Hammond as Sean Connery and Norm MacDonald as Burt Reynolds,  and was every bit as glorious during its run in the late 90’s through the 2000s.

It should come as no surprise that this special scored a record 23 million viewers from last night (via Variety) and will probably have millions watching several of the clips over at Hulu and YouTube.

With all of the reminiscing of seasons past, it’s perfect timing on SNL’s part to push their SNL app that gives access to thousands of clips from the past 40 seasons.

If you didn’t catch the special last night, hopefully you’ll have today off to catch up.

On Sun. Feb. 15th at 8PM, Saturday Night Live will celebrate their 40 years on NBC. They made some quick announcements during the Super Bowl of who will be appearing on this special anniversary episode spanning the entire generations of SNL including:

Bill Murray, Kristen Wiig, Laraine Newman, Eddie Murphy, Norm MacDonald, Peyton Manning, Fred Armisen, Chris Rock, Dana Carvey, Will Ferrell Seth Meyers, Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Garrett Morris, Amy Poehler, Steve Martin, Molly Shannon, Martin Short, Tom Hanks, Maya Rudolph, Dan Aykroyd, Jim Carrey, Alec Baldwin, Jason Sudeikis, David Spade, Paul Rudd, and Mike Myers.

There’s plenty of more names that were dropped and probably more to come.

We can’t even imagine what they’ll end up cutting for time.

Just Like All The Other Riot LAs, You Should Have Been at Riot LA 2015

Once a year, The Riot LA Comedy Festival turns the ever blossoming Main St. in Downtown LA into an even more colorful affair. There are long lines delineated by pastel colored chalk and a concentrated distillation of some of the LA comedy scene’s finest as well as bringing in some of the funniest folks from around the country. In its third year, Riot LA has kept this phenomenon going to the point where it should become a time honored tradition to make a trek to Downtown LA.

If you didn’t happen to be in attendance last weekend for the festival, let us fill you in with some of our favorite moments at Riot LA 2015 (spoiler alert: there were no actual riots).

-NYC was well represented at Riot with great performances from Dan Soder, Dave Hill and his killer erotic short stories, Nick Turner, Sheng Wang, and Michelle Wolf who won the always crazy fun Happy Contest Time, a “stand-up contest” judged by Japanese school girls.

–Elisha Yaffe curated a fantastic series of offbeat, hysterical, fantastical, otherworldly, wonderful short films for “Weird Stories”. Whether it be the interconnecting bizarre events of an Interesting Ball from DANIELS or a video asking a stranger out while in costume from your job at a theme park from Andrew Peyton, the showcase proved short films (not viral videos) are very still much alive and are probably funnier than ever.

-Walking and talking showbiz encyclopedia Kliph Nesteroff chatted with the legendary Fred Willard. We were more than delightfully surprised to learn that Willard turned down the starring role in Airplane! and that, for a time when Fred was doing improv, he would have cut a scene short by have someone dressed up as a fairy that come out and announce the scene was over.

Giant thank you to our amazing headliners and everyone who came out to support live comedy, #superseriousshow & #riotla!

A photo posted by The Super Serious Show (@seriousshow) on Jan 17, 2015 at 8:34pm PST

-The LA comedy institution that is The Super Serious Show made a great showing per usual with one of the best on-stage duos around Kate Berlant and John Early at the host’s helm. Jerrod Carmichael offered some of the funniest bits about Bill Cosby we’ve heard since the allegations made the news, especially since he’s gotten to meet and chat with Cosby just before all of the controversy rose to the fever pitch that it is at now. Also, Nate Craig had a highlight worthy, wire-to-wire set.

A very special drop in who is definitely not Bill Burr #RiotLA (photo by @callie_biggs)

A photo posted by RiotLA (@riotla) on Jan 17, 2015 at 9:45pm PST

-The one and only Bill Burr wore a fat suit to impersonate Pantera’s Vinnie Paul at The Goddamn Comedy Jam and we don’t need to elaborate further than on how the night went for the all out comedy rock show.

-Part installation artist/part comedian/part magical human being Kurt Braunohler dazzled yet again with his Roustabout show that included a sound effect operated wishing well, dog show dogs doing tricks, a lone trombone player, and snow here in LA. We didn’t know this was a dream of ours until Kurt made it a reality.

-One of the big headliners of Riot LA, Norm MacDonald, sold out the recently renovated and reopened, beautiful Regent Theater. Those in attendance for his high art dad-esque humor and persona were not disappointed.

Another great shot of our Saturday night headliner, Mr. Norm McDonald #RiotLA (photo by @jeremiahgarcia)

A photo posted by RiotLA (@riotla) on Jan 18, 2015 at 12:27am PST

-The marvelously absurd Sam Simmons did a whole solo show that toured through his inner psyche through a complex set of beats and pre-recorded dialogue with himself while also being completely self-aware. Despite Sam’s protestations here and there, which are also part of the charm of his act, the crowd at The Smell loved it.

-The meta-meta podcast “With Special Guest Lauren Lapkus” had the whole of The Downtown Independent Theater on board for podcast host Lauren Lapkus playing the character of a fake podcast “hosted” by guest Thomas Middleditch who is also playing a character. It was akin to the trippy visual sequence in 2001: A Space Odyssey, but done in comedy podcast form with a bit of a Southern affect.

–Margot Leitman and Giulia Rozzi’s Stripped Stories not only featured great, ribald stories, but a round of that classic party game “Never Have I Ever” where an audience member won by having intercourse while at a mental institution with one of the orderlies on his break in a laundry room. Never one to miss the gold coin on a comedy merry-go-round, Matt Braunger came to the stage as the orderly.

A photo posted by RiotLA (@riotla) on Jan 18, 2015 at 9:32pm PST

-The house party, drinking game comedy show known as Brew Haha got so out-of-hand, in a fun-spirited, responsible way, that many on the show took their clothes off on stage. It’s a pretty great way to make a house party happen in a downtown parking lot.

Maria Bamford prepares as @troyconrads observes #RiotLA (photo by @liezlwashere)

A photo posted by RiotLA (@riotla) on Jan 22, 2015 at 10:47am PST

-American comedy treasure Maria Bamford fully realized her mother, Marilyn Bamford, as a comedic character for an entire show, The Marilyn Bamford Collective. She was armed with a handheld vacuum, throw pillows, and the perfect imitation, which was made even more beautiful when the real Marilyn took the stage at the end of the show. At one point, Maria as Marilyn had noted comedian and impressionist Melissa Villaseñor  do an impression of Maria right in front of her.

It may be redundant in saying this, but we’re looking forward to a Riot LA in 2016.

Another nice reveal from Comic Con this past weekend came in the form of a trailer for Adult Swim’s latest cartoon, Mike Tyson Mysteries with the actual voice of Mike Tyson.

There’s a lot to chew on here including its style as one of those classic 70s cartoons to a ghost being one of Tyson’s sidekicks as well as Norm MacDonald voicing a pigeon. That’s right; all of you what just read is absolutely true.

In an effort to further his campaign to take over The Late Late Show next year when Craig Ferguson steps down, Norm MacDonald put together a “one-minute audition reel” while on Conan in addition to doing his routinely amazing panel interview with Conan O’Brien and Andy Richter.

There’s no way that CBS can completely ignore this.

Norm MacDonald Fans Push For #LateLateNormNorm

If you follow Norm MacDonald on Twitter (and you should), you might have noticed last night that there was a flurry of tweets and RTs of the hashtag #LateLateNormNorm (possibly started by Ben Hoffman) in a digital grassroots move to put Norm’s hat in the ring to replace Ferguson.

So far, we haven’t seen anything like that for any of the other names that have been rumored to be in the running for The Late Late Show. At this point, the gig really still could go to a wide range of folks, but it’s definitely fun to imagine Norm MacDonald hosting late night for all the times he was absolutely hysterical as a guest.

Also, that hashtag is pretty catchy.
