Odds are that you’ve already gotten Louis C.K.: Live at The Comedy Store. If not, you should.

In either case, you can enjoy more of C.K. chatting with David Letterman about his “deflategate” theory as well as the weird obstacles one faces when performing stand-up in an arena like Madison Square Garden and circumventing getting passed at The Comedy Store.

Louis C.K.’s latest comedy special is finally here. Unlike the last few that were recorded at big theaters, Live at The Comedy Store was shot at the gorgeous Main Room at The Comedy Store. That’s probably as intimate of a space that you’ll see a C.K. comedy special in.

Same deal as always with Louis’ specials: $5 for a download to do with what you will.

Here’s a preview, though many of you are probably already at LouisCK.net buying it.

This spring, FX will see a whole hour block of series focused on the lives of comedians.

The series premiere of The Comedians with Josh Gad and Billy Crystal playing two comedians bridging generational gaps in comedy and the premiere of the fifth season of Louie will kick off Apr. 9th at 10PM.

Note that, Louie will only have 8 episodes for this latest season, which seems like the season order of a freshman show. However, The Comedians will have Mel Brooks, Jimmy Kimmel, and Rob Reiner as guest stars in their first season (via Variety).

This still makes us curious how comedies are split between FX and FXx.

You might have heard by now that French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo was attacked by terrorists who claimed 12 lives.

Jon Stewart and Conan O’Brien made sure to take time for their late night programs to express their grief over the tragedy on The Daily Show and Conan, respectively.

Also, Louis C.K., in a sign of solidarity with Charlie Hebdo, used a marker to write “Charlie Hebdo” while playing Madison Square Garden last night.

HUGE s/o to LouisCK for taking a sharpie to his tee, spreading awareness for #CharlieHebdo. Great show, great job. pic.twitter.com/kzQYohmauE

— Mike Ivers (@TheMikeIvers) January 8, 2015

With all the well wishing going around the globe, you’ll be happy to know that Charlie Hebdo’s next issue will have a million copies published as opposed to their usual 60K (via The Hollywood Reporter).

So, maybe you’ll want to get a copy when it comes out next week.

Over 6 years ago, Largo was not the gorgeous theatre that you see at The Coronet these days. It was an even smaller venue with a bar in Fairfax Village here in LA.

However, even back then, a mix of some of the best comedians and innovative musicians and singers all came together under the roof of Largo to play.

In 2008, a concert film was released of the old Largo with the likes of Fred Armisen, Fiona Apple, Greg Behrendt, Paul F. Tompkins, Elliott Smith, Sarah Silverman, Greg Proops, Sarah Silverman, Flight of the Conchords, Patton Oswalt, Louis CK, Zach Galifianakis, Aimee Mann, Andrew Bird, and more all performing.

Now, it’s online for you to enjoy on Vimeo in beautiful black and white. Watch LARGO here.

Here Are The Comedy Nominees for The 2015 Grammys

Uncategorized
everything is awesome, grammys, jim gaffigan, joan rivers, louis ck, mandatory fun, obsessed, oh my god, patton oswalt, sarah silverman, tenacious d, tragedy plus comedy equals time, we are miracles, weird al yankovic

The Grammys have just announced the majority of the nominees for their 83 categories, which include Best Recording Package, Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package, Best Album Notes, Best Contemporary Christian Music Album, and Best Comedy Album.

Of course, we’re only concerned with comedy here rather than how an album is packaged or what music is playing in your local chapel’s gift shop, so the nominees for Best Comedy Album are:

“Mandatory Fun”-Weird Al Yankovic
“Obsessed”-Jim Gaffigan
“Oh My God”-Louis C.K.
“Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time”-Patton Oswalt
“We Are Miracles”-Sarah Silverman

Honestly, it’ll be hard to tell who’s going to win as Silverman has an Emmy for We Are Miracles, Yankovic scored #1 Billboard spot with Mandatory Fun, and Oswalt, C.K., and Gaffigan are critically and commercially amongst the top tier of funniest people in comedy right now.

Also, we’d like to note that Joan Rivers got nominated posthumously in the Best Spoken Word Album category for “Diary of a Mad Diva”, Tenacious D got nominated for Best Metal Performance for covering Dio’s “The Last in Line”, and Tegan & Sara and The Lonely Island’s “Everything Is Awesome” from The Lego Movie got nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media.

See the full list, if you dare, of nominees here.

The Just For Laughs brand has been one for the biggest comedy festivals in the world for quite some time. In their tenure of their festivals, so many of the big names you know and love nowadays performed on what was likely the biggest stage they’ve ever performed comedy on up until that point.

So, JFL thought it might be prudent to share some of their archives with the rest of us.

Thus, 500 hours of clips will be uploaded to a YouTube channel that’s being created with the help of Maker Studios, much of which hasn’t ever been seen outside of the festival. Clips will include performances from Dave Chappelle, Bill Hicks, Bill Burr, Louis CK, Mitch Hedberg, Jon Stewart, Chris Rock, and way more.

When that starts, prepare for another thing to binge watch.

With another Emmy win for Louie, FX is smartly furthering their business with Louis C.K. as they have just picked up Baskets, executively produced by C.K., Zach Galifianakis, and Portlandia director Jonathan Krisel, to series.

Galifianakis will star as a man who leaves the corporate world to pursue a life of becoming a professional clown. So, maybe it’s hovering somewhere around Being John Malkovich minus all the body snatching with a focus on clowning instead of puppetry?

Either way, we have a really great feeling about this.

However, there will be only 7 episodes for this fifth season, which makes us wonder if they all will just be a half hour long (i.e. maybe they’ll be longer?).
