Watch Kurt Braunohler Serve Up a Wonderful Late Night Set on Corden

You might be familiar with Kurt Braunohler through his large scale comedy/performance art/pranks like hiring a skywriter to write “How Do I Land?” in the sky or him jet skiing down the Mississippi for charity or driving a giant double sided butt sculpture across the country.

Kurt is also a great stand-up comedian on top of all of that as you can see in this set from last night’s episode of Corden.

Kurt Braunohler Is Now Documenting His Writing Process with Oblique Strategies

It’s rare that you’ll get a comedian at Kurt’s level to let you into their creative process so intimately, but, then again, that’s an integral part of what makes Kurt Braunohler so great.

Kurt has gotten Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt’s famous box of cards known as Oblique Strategies that serve as ways to push creative thinking and inspiration and has opted to share his writing that comes from each card on a blog.

So far, he’s only a couple of days in, but it’s kind of an unprecedented and fascinating look into how Kurt’s thought process leading up to how he twists things, observations, experiences, etc. into humor and jokes even before they’re presented in their rawest, live form on stage.

While this is Kurt’s process and possibly Kurt’s process only, you might just be able to catch a glimpse of how comedic notions come into being.

Kurt Braunohler indeed is taping an hour long stand-up special for Comedy Central. Called Trust Me, he’ll be taping it in Portland, OR at Revolution Hall on Saturday, September 24th.

Given his skywriting, jet skiing, driving a giant butt cross country, and other such large scale acts of absurdity, we personally can’t wait to see what Kurt does with an hour of stand-up on national television.

If you can go, you should go and you can get free tickets here.

Kurt Braunohler and Lauren Cook Really Did Tube the LA River, But Had to Do So in Secret

On the ongoing mission to insert absurdity and stupidity into the lives of strangers, Kurt Braunohler and with his wife Lauren Cook tried organizing a tubing race down the LA River called LAzy River.

Believe it or not, they ran into some legal obstacles by some killjoys, but managed to pull off the tube race anyway.

The whole thing was documented and cut into this short at JASH. Watch how crafty you have to be sometimes in order to have some dumb fun.

–“GERP” (script deal) – Produced by Jack Black’s Electric Dynamite and co-written by Dick Blasucci (“Mad TV”) and Janine DeTullio (“Late Night wtih Jimmy Fallon”), this show within a show follows a federal worker who hosts a government produced variety TV show from inside his cubicle during the work day.

–“New Timers” (script deal) – based on the Comedy Central Digital series, “New Timers” takes place following an apocalyptic “event.” Matt Porter and Charlie Hankin, who create, star, executive produce and direct the series, now live their day-to-day in what’s left of Brooklyn, looking for adventures, new friends and ways to pass the time.
-“Tijuana Beach” (script deal) – this animated project follows a Mexican American father who inherits a rundown resort from his uncle and relocates his family to Mexico.
–“Used People” (script deal) – based on the Comedy Central digital series written by Michelle Wolf and Dan Soder, “Used People” follows uptight Michelle and stoner Dan who spend their days arguing, obsessing over their messy personal lives and – theoretically – selling used cars.

We’re really excited to see The Goddamn Comedy Jam, Roast Battle, hour stand-up specials from Kurt Braunohler, Joe DeRosa, another one from Trevor Moore and Dan Soder, and what Jordan Klepper and Jessica Williams will do with their new deals.

Also, from the sound of Moshe Kasher and Rob Huebel’s pilots, we hope that they get to see the light of day past being a pilot.

Watch Kurt Braunohler as a Disgraced Reporter Trying to Regain Glory in Trailer for “B-Roll”

In this day and age, news anchors and reporters know that they’re more likely to get famous for a blooper, outburst, or something else happening on camera that wasn’t supposed to.

While many fade into obscurity after their 15 minutes of YouTube fame, the news reporter that Kurt Braunohler plays in the upcoming film B-Roll from Travis Long is determined to not let that happen, no matter what.

Of course, the “what” isn’t even close to being remotely easy.

It will appropriately be called “L.A.ZY RIVER”.

You’ve seen Kurt Braunohler have a joke skywritten, waterski down the Mississippi, drive a double sided butt sculpture across America, and more delightful things that really have truly made the world a better place.

Kurt and his wife Lauren Cook are now going to celebrate the impending rain in LA that’s supposed to come with El Nino by hosting a tube race down the L.A. River from the river’s edge to DTLA.

On top of that, there will be a respectful rain dance, pre- and after parties, and awards.

A date has yet to be announced, but you’re going to want to make sure you keep a close eye for what’s bound to be an early Christmas present for us all.

As we reported last week, the amazing Kurt Braunohler will be touring across America with a gigantic butt. Announcing the start of The Love Butt Tour today, Kurt also mentioned that the butt is double-sided, that it’s all for a pilot he’s doing for Comedy Central called Better. Dumber. Starting Tuesday June 30th, I’ll be driving this 14-ft tall butt across America. Because our country needs this. #TheLoveButt #BetterDumberFaster @comedycentral

After, getting a prank stop sign, personalizing greeting cards, raising money to pay a sky writer to write “How Do I Land?”, jet skiing down the Mississippi for goats to be sent to Africa, you’ve got to wonder what’s next on Kurt Braunohler’s delightfully absurdist agenda.

According to his Instagram, he’ll be driving a man made butt that has a heart tattoo with “butt” written on it across this great land of ours starting next week. Presumably, this is the next thing to Roustabout-ish adventure for Comedy Central.

If there is one thing that we know that will bring this country together, it’s Kurt driving a giant butt around.

Stay tuned for more updates soon.

Yesterday, Jenny Lewis and Mikal Cronin released their music videos for “She’s Not Me” and “Say”, respectively, that offer more evidence that music videos are on their way back and are more than just bands in different clothes playing in front of different back drops.

In Lewis’ She’s Not Me, Vanessa Bayer, Zosia Mamet, Fred Armisen, and more semi-recreate Jenny’s past as a former child actress.

Mikal Cronin enlists the help of Kurt Braunohler, Jonah Ray, Allan McLeod, Nick Thune, and Nelson Franklin to be in his video for Say, though he may have spoke too soon (pun absolutely intended).

Along with JASH’s 5K music video series and any music video Tom Scharpling directs, maybe we don’t need MTV to play music videos ever again.

This album recording was supposed to happen almost a year ago, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, the recordings had to be pushed to this month on Monday Apr. 20th and Apr. 27th.

Still, we’re happy that an album capturing one of the best and longest running weekly comedy shows in the country, Hot Tub with Kurt & Kristen, is happening all the same.

Two tapings, presented by our good friends at CleftClips, will feature, of course, the amazing duo of Kurt Braunohler and Kristen Schaal as well as Kyle Kinane, Karen Kilgariff, Eugene Mirman, Heather Lawless, Aparna Nancherla, Eddie Pepitone, Emily Heller, Beth Stelling, Andrés du Bouchet, and John Roberts all at Hot Tub’s LA home, The Virgil.

Pretty swell, huh?

Kill Rock Stars just keeps adding to their already great comedy discography, which includes comedy albums from Hari Kondabolu, Cameron Esposito, and Kurt Braunohler.

Tickets will go on sale later this week. We’ll be sure to tell you exactly when that happens so you have a chance to not miss out on being part of Hot Tub history.
