If you’ve been enjoying Kate Berlant and John Early on your televisions throughout 2017, you might want to get in on the first Super Serious Show of 2018 that they will be hosting/headlining (not to mention that the rest of the line-up is pretty stellar too).

Joey Izzo is absolutely a filmmaker you should be keeping an eye on as his films have made the rounds on the film festival circuit already (including being featured at Cannes). This selection of short films will also be presented with performances from Kate Berlant and Power Violence, which should round out the evening nicely between experimentation and silliness.

Tickets are $10 and you can (and should) get them here.

Kate Berlant and John Early Are Making a Comedy Pilot Presentation ‘This Is Heaven’ for Hulu

Individually, John Early and Kate Berlant are forces to be reckoned with and together even more so.

Just see their Vimeo mini-series 555…

…and their Tonight Show set for proof.

So, a half hour sitcom pilot presentation This Is Heaven where they play best friends needs no further explanation in order for us to get excited. Hopefully, before too long, we’ll get to see this pilot go to series at Hulu.

For years now, Boston Calling has been a big music shindig for Boston not unlike Outside Lands for SF, Bonnaroo for Tennessee, SXSW for Austin, etc.

Like those festivals, it’s now featuring a dedicated comedy portion of the festival billed as a “A Comedy Experience Hosted by Hannibal Buress”. In fact, look at the flyer and you’ll see it’s a pretty nice weekend all around that they’ve got lined up.

Tickets range from $99 for Single Day GA to $199 for 3 Day GA and $199 for Single Day VIP to $529 for 3 VIP.

Few explore the frontiers of silliness quite like Josh Fadem and Dicker Troy (Johnny Pemberton) and we think you would really regret any time the duo got together and reveled in their next level tomfoolery.

So, with that in mind, get tickets to their next show, this Sunday at The Satellite with guests Eddie Pepitone, Nick Vatterott, Mike Lawrence, and Kate Berlant. They are $8 and you can (and really should) get them here.

Blending a show and semi-fictional parties together, CleftClips’ Toasty allows comedians to give the toasts that they have always dreamed of. It’s one of our all time favorite shows and the line-up for the latest edition, as you can see above, is stellar.

Tickets are $20 (the venue is small, so they will be limited and you should get them sooner rather than later), and cocktail attire is required.

Kate Berlant and John Early Have a Surrealist Comedy Mini Series “555″ Coming to Vimeo and It Just Got a Trailer

Uncategorized
555, andrew deyoung, hollywood, john early, kate berlant, mini series, short film

The duo of Kate Berlant and John Early with director Andrew DeYoung are a comedy power trio that needs to be on all of your radars.

Both Berlant and Early have already gotten to do works separately on Netflix’s Characters and DeYoung has directed both of them before in such fine work as Dinner Party.

Their latest collaboration will arrive in the form of a Vimeo on Demand mini-series of short films called 555.  (the series’ focus on “a stark, humid, surreality of Hollywood,” probably suggests the 555 to be a reference to the three digit prefix that signifies a fake telephone number primarily used in movies and television.)

Get a delicious taste of what’s in store for 555 in this trailer, then you can buy (or pre-order) all five episodes for $3.99 at Vimeo on Tuesday, January 31st.

Pretty much everything you could want out of a Reggie Watts comedy special is included in Spatial.

Stand-up, amazing improvised songs, a bizarre, faux sitcom that co-stars Kate Berlant and Rory Scovel, and tap dancing is just some of what’s in store for your eyes and ears in watching this new hour from Watts. You expect this joyful, carefree vibe from Reggie and he delivers it in spades in what is his sharpest, tightest special to date.

See for yourself and go watch Spatial on Netflix.

In our opinion, one of the best and craziest iterations of the late night talk show format is The Jesse Miller Talk Show.

Imagine some wild dreamer from Cincinnati who seems to be aspiring to be Kenny Powers, but also has a boundless amount of pop culture knowledge and ability to make wordplay hosting a talk show and you’ll get some idea of the fun chaos that is going on with Jesse Miller (Andre Hyland).

In addition to his crew of his one man shredding house band Darryl and his girl Tanya, guests for this round include Johnny Pemberton and Kate Berlant.

Please get your tickets for The Jesse Miller Talk Show this Friday, Dec. 9th at 10PM at The Hollywood Improv here.

Rabbit Hole with Jay Larson and Rory Scovel Will Be Replacing The Meltdown with Jonah & Kumail

One of the most revered weekly stand-up shows in the country, The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, ended its 6 year run last month, which included three seasons as a TV series on Comedy Central.

Naturally, the 8:30PM slot at Nerdmelt where Meltdown took place was going to be filled in by something given Meltdown’s status as a flagship show at the theater.

In two weeks, you will all have a very exciting and worthy show filling in with Rabbit Hole with Jay Larson and Rory Scovel produced by Nerdmelt’s Caitlin Durante. Larson and Scovel are two of our favorites and this show will be in good hands as you can see with our thoughts on Jay’s recent album Human Math and Scovel’s latest Conan set.

In the inaugural show, Kate Berlant, Todd Glass, Bridey Elliott, Joe Mande, Baron Vaughn, and a surprise guest will be performing. It should go without saying that it’ll be a hell of a show and something that will get us all through the next few years and beyond.

Tickets are $10 and are available now here.

You can keep up with Rabbit Hole on @therabbitholela on Twitter, @therabbitholela on Instagram, and on Facebook.

A Web Series from John Early and Kate Berlant and a Special from South Africa’s Loyiso Gola in Production at Vimeo

Vimeo continues to be on brand with their high-minded picks in comedy.

John Early and Kate Berlant are working on their own short form series that will be released exclusively on Vimeo, which doesn’t need any more details to get you intrigued. You’ve probably seen them do work solo on Netflix’s Characters and together in such works as Dinner Party.

While Trevor Noah is making waves as the host of The Daily Show, South Africa has another comedy export coming our way in the form of a stand up special from another one of their biggest comedians, Loyiso Gola. Set to tape next week on Wednesday, September 28th at House of Yes in Brooklyn. Tickets available here.

We’re going to keep our fingers crossed that Vimeo’s only going to keep goind down this road of making their own comedy.
