The Duplass Brothers’ Togetherness is pretty much everything you would want from a TV show from Jay and Mark Duplass in how they unflinchingly explore the real and comedic tension of everyday life.

From the looks of this promo, Season 2 will be doubling down on that notion.

Catch the season premiere on Sun. Feb. 21st at 10:30PM on HBO.

One of the funniest shows on television, Veep, is coming back at kind of perfect time in that the current presidential election and the one fictionalized on the show might just be equally ridiculous.

John Oliver’s Thoughts on The Super Bowl and the New Season of “Last Week Tonight”

Last Week Tonight finally returns this Sunday on HBO, so host John Oliver stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers.

On top of previewing what the gang at Last Week Tonight will be up to now that the 2016 Presidential Race is well underway, Oliver gives a great outsider perspective of how transcendent the Super Bowl is as well as questioning why Coldplay was there.

Thank goodness Sunday is only a few days away.

SNL’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” Parody with Larry David Might Be the Closest Thing to New ‘Curb’

With Larry David hosting last night’s SNL, it’s imperative that the show do something involving Larry’s HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm and/or Larry as Bernie Sanders, since he was such a hit doing it the first time this season.

Thus SNL checked off two boxes with one Bern Your Enthusiasm.

It definitely plays more like an episode of Curb than a Bernie Sanders sketch, but, ehh, you’re probably ok with that.

HBO Orders Pete Holmes’ “Crashing” to Series, Executive Produced by Judd Apatow

(via Deadline)

HBO isn’t going without a Judd Apatow-produced series on their line-up.

Pete Holmes will indeed be returning to TV, this time with a single camera comedy based on his life rather than a talk show. Crashing will follow the portion of his life following his divorce where he crashed on comedians’ couches around NYC. Fans of Holmes’ podcast You Made It Weird should be more than familiar with the subject.

Holmes created the show and will star and Judd Apatow directed the pilot and is on board as an executive producer.

This counts as three series that Judd will be overseeing this year, the other ones being the upcoming Love at Netflix and Girls, which will be coming to a close in the not so distant future.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is in a rare class of television program that can post a promo for the show that features nothing but shade thrown at the show’s host and only make the show seem only more charming. Take note who is the pull quotes are from (cough cough Trump).

HBO Orders Pilot of Bill Hader Hitman Comedy “Barry”

Bill Hader as a lonely hitman finding himself amongst theater folk in LA might just be good enough for a greenlight as far as we’re concerned.

While Veep and Girls are getting into their latter seasons, HBO is readying itself for its next few comedy series in the years to come. The Duplass Brothers’ Animals is set to premiere at the end of the month and adding a pilot of Hader starring in a hitman comedy sounds like a pretty great addition to their development slate.

The project, Barry, was co-written by Hader and Alec Berg, who we hope you know from Silicon Valley and Curb Your Enthusiasm, and we sincerely hope that it makes it air just to see what the two have cooking.

Finally, Here’s the First Teaser for The Duplass Brothers’ “Animals”

With BoJack Horseman and a multitude of web series that have talking animals, it would seem anthropomorphized animated series are becoming their own sub genre.

That being said, there’s still room for more such shows as you can see with this teaser of The Duplass Brothers’ Animals.

Not only are NYC animals talking like regular New Yorkers a clever concept, but having the voice talents of Nick Kroll Matt Walsh, Steve Zissis, Adam Scott, Colbie Smulders, Marc Maron, Zach Woods, Jessica Chastain, Horatio Sanz, Kumail Nanjiani, Katie Aselton, Wanda Sykes, Paul Scheer, Rob Corddry, and Molly Shannon definitely pushes it to the next level.

Look for the premiere of Animals on Friday Feb. 5th at 11:30PM on HBO.

By the way, Jay Duplass stars in Transparent and Mark Duplass stars in Togetherness on top of working the behind the scenes with his brother just in case you want to know Jay and Mark’s imprint on this sub genre.

Here’s a trailer for season 2 of Togetherness, which promises things are only going to get more off the rails.

HBO and Lena Dunham Agree to End “Girls” After Season 6

January 6, 2016
Uncategorized

(via Deadline)

It’s interesting to see that 9-10 seasons was sort of a goal for sitcoms in the 90s and, in this millennium, 6 seasons is the now the benchmark for a landmark series.

Lena Dunham has got so many other things going that we’re not even aware of the full scope of what she’s working on. On top of Girls, she’s got a career as an author, movies, Lenny Letter, cameos on other shows like Scandal,

So, knowing that and knowing the journey that Hannah Horvath and company have gone through over the last few years makes it seem just about right that Dunham and HBO are coming in for a final landing on the series.

Don’t start getting remiss and teary eyed quite yet as season five hasn’t even premiered yet.
