Watch Trailer for Comedy Central’s Latest Scripted Series ”South Side”

May 16, 2019

We’ve been hearing rumblings about South Side for quite some time now and come July 24th, we’ll get to hear what those rumblings about the latest scripted series coming to Comedy Central.

From the looks of it, it could be what CC was looking for to follow the departure of Broad City. Bashir Salahuddin and Diallo Riddle’s South Side, thus far, has lots of promise. See for yourself in the trailer.

If you’re digging it, make a note, again, for South Side’s premiere date, July 24th.

The day is finally here when The New Negroes with Baron Vaughn and Open Mike Eagle is making their debut on Comedy Central.

We’ve had the privilege of seeing Baron and Mike grow this stand-up-sketch-music-comedy mash-up from the ground up here in LA and what they’ve got coming with this show, from what we’ve seen, is pretty fantastic.

You can get a taste of what’s to come with this featurette.

Then, check The New Negroes with Baron Vaughn and Open Mike Eagle on Comedy Central TONIGHT at 11PM.

Comedy Central Gets More Into the Roy Wood Jr. Business with a First Look Deal, a Third Hour Special, a Digital Series, and a TV Pilot

Comedy Central Gets More Into the Roy Wood Jr. Business with a First Look Deal, a Third Hour Special, a Digital Series, and a TV Pilot

Roy Wood Jr. and Comedy Central have a pretty great working history already with The Daily Show, two hour specials, and taking on hosting duties at This Is Not Happening.

So, it only makes sense (especially with the sort of money that streaming services are throwing around to snatch up top tier talent in comedy these days) that Comedy Central “renews theirs vows” with Roy with another hour stand-up special, a digital series called “Night Pigeon”, and a pilot based where Roy plays an empathetic probation officer. Oh, that’s all on top of a first look deal with the network that banks on Roy sticking around for quite some time.

Along side Trevor Noah, this might just bump up Roy to being one of the major faces of the network, which we definitely dig.

Klepper Trailer Has Jordan Klepper Drop His Daily Show/Opposition Character

Perhaps, in the interests of skirting around Malcolm Gladwell’s “Satire Paradox”, Jordan Klepper is leaving little room for interpretation in his latest comedy docu-series coming soon to Comedy Central, the eponymous Klepper.

Within it, Jordan will interview, explore, and in some cases, embed himself in marginalized communities that he wants to, according to this trailer, highlight positively (such as veterans, environmentalists, undocumented immigrants) as opposed to satirizing certain radical groups on The Daily Show or The Opposition by playing an overly pompous, bizarro version of himself.

Just see it for yourself here. If you’re into it, catch the premiere of Klepper’s second series on May 9th at Comedy Central.

It almost seems like another era when we went to a taping of The New Negroes with Baron Vaughn and Open Mike Eagle and then, consequently wondered when the world would get to enjoy what we got to see up close.

Finally, that day is just around the corner as the stand-up/sketch/rap comedy compendium showcase will premiere on Fri., Apr. 19th at 11PM on Comedy Central. As you can see from this trailer, you’ve got something really dope in store just a few weeks from now. This will include performances/appearances from Naomi Ekperigin, Lil’ Rel, Chris Redd, Dulce Sloan, Sam Jay, David Gborie, George Wallace, Hannibal  Buress, Candice Thompson, Tone Bell, Clayton English, Sasheer Zamata, Josh Johnson, Lucas Brothers, Kevin Avery, and more.

So, set a reminder (even through we’ll remind you too).

Comedy Central Adds Scripted Projects ‘Interracial Couple’ from Naomi Ekperigin & Andy Beckerman, ‘The Chameleon’ from Matteo Lane, and an Adaptation of ‘Meaty’ from Samantha Irby

This announcement by Comedy Central for their time at the TCA Press Tour is much more exciting than their addition of another David Spade pop culture show to their late night offerings.

Couples Therapy’s Naomi Ekperigin and Andy Beckerman are long overdue for their own show, especially one following their lives, the prospect of seeing Matteo Lane as a spy is pretty enticing as well, and Samantha Irby is already showing a lot of promise from her work that we can see on Hulu’s upcoming series Shrill. We hope these get fast tracked through pilot to series over at CC.

We got to preview the second season and it absolutely delivers the catharsis you need for the times we live in.

One of Canada’s finest comedy exports, Jon Dore, has an upcoming series at Comedy Central where he will, with as much expertise as he can muster as an “outsider”, answer the biggest questions facing America today.

This trailer is probably only a fraction of what Dore has up his sleeve or, if you’re looking at the thumbnail for the trailer, hidden in his beanie cap.

In any case, it’s sure to be some absurdist gold. Big Questions Huge Answers premieres on Comedy Central on Monday, Dec. 3rd.

If you need more convincing, we’d like to point you to Dore’s “A Dore to Winnipeg”.

Goatface Comedy, the sketch group that includes oh, you know, Hasan Minhaj, Asif Ali, Fahim Anwar, and Aristotle Athiras, is about to have a special on Comedy Central. It’s been a long time in the making, but it’ll be arriving just after Thanksgiving this year.

We have a pretty damn good feeling about it (just binge through years of past sketches and you’ll see what we’re talking about) and if you’ve been missing the days of Key & Peele, you might want to mark down Tues., Nov. 27th when the Goatface Comedy special premieres.

Anthony Atamanuik and company are at it at The President Show again (right before the midterm elections) with their “documentary” special set in a possible near future where Donald Trump falls from power.

Perhaps, this will hit the mark in comparison to the real world in similar fashion the way Anthony did leading up to the 2016 election and pretty much predicting what Trump would say in debates and or rallies.

Get a taste of what is (hopefully, in real life) to come here.

A President Show Documentary: The Fall of Donald Trump premieres tonight on Comedy Central at 11PM.

“Nathan for You” Has Ended, Comedy Central Confirms

Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, it might be worthwhile to give a round of applause to comedic mastermind Nathan Fielder.

If you’d like to hold out hope that this might, possibly, maybe be a bit by Fielder, it’s a little weird that this announcement would show up on Pitchfork, a site almost entirely dedicated to music only, rather than something like Deadline. Also, as of this post, there is nothing on Nathan Fielder or Comedy Central’s social media channels backing this up.

However, Fielder accomplished whole hell of a lot with his run at Nathan For You and if he feels like he wants to wrap up the series so he can regroup and find a new angle in which to elevate pranking to an art form, we can’t wait to see what he has in store next.

The President Show Is Coming Back with a Mockumentary with the Very Hopeful Title “The Fall of Donald Trump”

Sure, Trump humor can be well beyond exhausted in 2018. That being said, Anthony Atamanuik’s Trump is so good that it supersedes any sort of fatigue we may have gotten from political humor over the last three years.

So, naturally, we’re excited for the folks at The President Show at Comedy Central to make a mockumentary that goes behind an imagined (or maybe what will end up being a not so imagined) dismantling of the Trump Administration (often self-inflicted by Trump and his cronies).

Here’s a taste of it with a “leaked tape”.

Look forward to A President Show Documentary: The Fall of Donald Trump premieres on Monday, October 22nd at 11PM and hopefully a turning of the tides in the midterm elections a couple of weeks later.

Comedy Central Makes Deal with Bill Burr and Al Madrigal’s All Things Comedy to Produce Stand-up Series and Specials

The ATC umbrella will be responsible for Comedy Central’s next stand-up showcase series as well as three one-hour specials, one of which will be from Paul Virzi.

As Netflix is going toe-to-toe in stand-up offering versus Comedy Central and virtually any other channel, network, service, or outlet offering stand-up, we’ll be excited to see what Burr and Madrigal cook up with this deal over the next year or so.

Comedy Central Signs Anthony Jeselnik to a Multiplatform Deal Which Includes a Half-Hour Series and Also a Weekly Podcast, “The Jeselnik and Rosenthal Vanity Project”

The Jeselnik Offensive may be long gone, but it looks like Anthony Jeselnik will be back bigger than ever at Comedy Central.

The half hour show seems to be half panel interview and half stand-up with clips of stand-up sparking conversation between Jeselnik and guests. The podcast with co-host Gregg Rosenthal (NFL Network) will focus on the NFL.

Jeselnik discussing comedy will be intriguing as we’re guessing he’ll have to drop a bit, if not a lot, of his famous stage persona.

Given Jeselnik’s penchant for gallows humor, it’s probably worth noting that the Jeselnik and Rosenthal Vanity Project will launch on Comedy Central’s Global Podcast Network on 9/11 next week.

Mary Holland Lands Series Regular Opposite Rory Scovel in Comedy Central Pilot ‘Robbie’ and Role in Indie Film Soccer Mom Comedy ‘Greener Grass’

Well, America, if you’re not familiar with Mary Holland yet because you haven’t seen her in many of her hysterical roles in several TV shows (Veep and Mr. Neighbor’s House to name a few) over the years or on stage with her fantastic improv group Wild Horses, it would seem like you’re going to thankfully get more acquainted with Holland’s exquisite comedy stylings very soon.

Holland being cast opposite of Rory Scovel in the Comedy Central pilot is just an exciting thing to imagine and, for the movie Greener Grass, we love that Mary’s role is described as, “Kim Ann, a sweet, bubbly, optimist who loves being divorced and wants everyone to know it.”

Obviously, we’re excited to see all of this whenever it comes out.

Jo Firestone Really Does Serve Up “The Hits” with Her First Comedy Album (That Does Include a Good Deal of Controlled Chaos)

Jo Firestone’s playful spirit is pretty damn undeniable. In any of her work, Jo is always game for something where silliness can abound, knowing full well that things might go off the rails (sometimes at her behest).

This album The Hits amplifies said spirit as Jo freewheels between jokes, earnest crowd work, and dealing with the accompanying musical interludes/interstitials/interruptions of Arcade Fire’s Will Butler for what is one damn fine, fun hour. Though she might seem anxious at the bits and chaos that she has set up, Jo’s presence makes everyone so carefree that they’re willing to follow whatever absurd unknown Jo is headed towards.

The fact that she calls her debut album The Hits is a pretty good indicator of how dedicated Jo is to her sense of the ridiculous.

Please give it a listen ASAP as The Hits is just fresh off the presses from Comedy Central Records on both iTunes and Spotify.
