Looks Like Eddie Murphy Might Be Playing Richard Pryor’s Father in Upcoming Pryor Biopic

As it stands now, acclaimed director Lee Daniels might actually pull off doing a Richard Pryor biopic with Mike Epps starring as Pryor, Kate Hudson playing Jennifer Pryor, and Eddie Murphy, who idolized Pryor, playing Pryor’s father, LeRoy Pryor.

Currently, Eddie is in talks to play the role, but we’re glad to see that Eddie might be involved. Keep your fingers crossed that this attempt, out of the many attempts over the last several years, at Pryor movie actually sees the big screen.

Watch A Brief, Abbreviated Tour of The Comedy Career of Wayne Federman

retrospective, wayne federman

“From MTV, New Girl, Comedy Central, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Funny People, Hello Ladies, Living Single, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The X-Files, Jack Frost, Legally Blonde, The Larry Sanders Show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, ESPN, LA Law, The Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno, Hertz Rent-a-Car, Florida Orange Juice, Samsung Galaxy, Charlie’s Angels, and stand-up comedy bits on Pink Floyd, Dokken, PBS, Ken Burns Jazz, Jimi Hendrix, and Purple Haze…”

Wayne Federman has not only been through so many different eras of comedy and their accompanying sensibilities, but he has done so very well and in every capacity imaginable. He’s been a stand-up, the head writer at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, a go to commercial actor, doing musical comedy deftly, a successful character actor in TV and film, throwing his own film festival four years in a row, and so much more.

This reel spans so much and is the perfect reason why you should be following everything Wayne if up to these days.

Kevin Smith Confirms That a “Mallrats 2″ Is in The Works

(via Variety)

Those who loved their comedies from over a decade ago got some damn good news this week.

First, Zoolander 2 will happen and has a release date.

Now, Mallrats 2 is set on Kevin Smith’s schedule 20 years after the release of Mallrats.

Already, Smith has a Clerks III set in motion and has a comedy horror project Moose Jaws following that this year, leaving the sequel of the oft-quoted Mallrats for 2016.

There’s no word on whether the entire original cast will return, but it would be fun to see whether the new Batman still sells clothes at a mall.

So, hell hath no fury like a woman’s scorn for Candy Crush?

Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion Have Crowdfunded Almost $2 Million For Their Comedy Series “Con Man”

March 15, 2015

Anyone think that the TV network executives of America would put any money behind a series that follows a former star of a sci-fi show in the great and bizarre world of fan conventions even with actual sci-fi stars Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk attached?

Well, the people of the Internet certainly is putting money down on that idea for Con Man.

All Tudyk and Fillion were looking for was $425K, which isn’t a modest amount when it comes to crowdfunding, but it’s probably a modest budget for they wanted to do. Little did they know that only a few days into their campaign that they would more than quadruple their goal with the money raised.

As of this post, their Indiegogo campaign is at $1,827,086 and they have almost entire month to go before the campaign closes on Apr. 10th.

Now, we all have to wonder how much more they’ll get to do with the extra dough.

Also, in case you’re wondering, you should donate to this because this series sounds like it could be pretty great.

The Special Without Brett Davis Is Definitely Keeping The Great and Weird Streak Alive at MNN

March 15, 2015
Uncategorized

The Special Without Brett Davis premiered a month ago at MNN in place of The Chris Gethard Show and, after a month, it looks like they’re keeping the bonkers spirit of that late night spot going, but, at the same time, making it all their own.

With the premise of Brett Davis “being” dead and having to have subsequent “different” hosts from vastly different walks of life, The Special Without Brett Davis has gotten to go really off the rails in a really great way.

How off the rails you ask? Well, just watch how wrestling champion Bobby Blayze deal with a terminally ill kid that’s not your typical terminally ill kid and what happens when a bass player in a band of bass players/cult followers gets interrupted during a cult ceremony that’s probably NSFW.

By the way, all the full episodes are on YouTube right here because you know you’ll want to watch them.

Rather than be on the dais at The Roast of Justin Bieber, Anthony Jeselnik has been focusing his efforts on his next comedy special.

We’re guessing it’s probably a much better use of his time.

Jeselnik will have 7PM and 10PM shows on Sat. Mar. 21st at The Fillmore in San Francisco where you can catch the taping of his follow-up to Caligula.

You can get tickets, of which there are a few still available, here.

If you’re in LA and can’t make it to SF next weekend, then you might be able to catch Jeselnik do a run through this Tues at The Lyric.

Album of Unreleased Bill Hicks Material To Be Released Later This Year

March 16, 2015
Uncategorized

(via Rolling Stone)

Maybe there will be a bit about his last set being cut from Letterman? We’re not sure, but we’re guessing Bill talked about that on stage at some point before he passed away.

Of all the things that Comedy Dynamics is doing with the Bill Hicks catalog including a theatrical release of one his specials, a brand new album of unreleased tracks from Hicks has to be one that peaks the interests of all, whether they be Hicks fans or skeptics.

The album is set for release on Oct. 27th and there are no details as to what exactly will be on it, but we’d guess it’s going to be a compilation of a number of Hicks’ sets like the few compilation albums that have been released over the last several years.

Whatever it ends up being, we all have all Spring and Summer long to ponder and guess what it might be.

John Oliver and His Last Week Tonight Team Take The NCAA Down a Notch or Two (or Lots of Notches)

Wherever reasonable voices are unjustly being ignored, it seems as John Oliver and Last Week Tonight are going to make those voices heard. Whether they may be clamoring voters in U.S. territories or unpaid NCAA student athletes, they’re attempting to have it all covered and doing a bang-up job.

With The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament better known as March Madness looming along with its huge windfall in profit for many involved, Oliver made a damning report last night, and one of his longest to date, on how absurd the NCAA is being for not only making their student athletes forego any sort of compensation, but also making them live a life or ridiculous expectations for a dream that statistically won’t happen and could go away with one injury.

Watch, enjoy, get infuriated, and then enjoy some more the latest segment from Last Week Tonight.

That’s what good friends Ari Shaffir and Pete Carboni did for the latest story on This Is Not Happening and well, we will just let Ari and Pete tell you the rest…

We will say that if this was an ad for taking mushrooms, it would be one of the most convoluted ad for mushrooms ever.

Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart Apparently Auditioned For Each Other’s Most Well Known Roles

Though they’re co-starring for the very first time together in the upcoming movie Get Hard, Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart have a long intertwined, secret history… supposedly.

According to these archived audition tapes exclusive to Funny or Die, Ferrell and Hart tried out for roles that ended up not only going to the other person, but became roles that are now synonymous with Ferrell or Hart.

Though you’re probably not questioning too much why Hart didn’t get Anchorman or Ferrell didn’t get a role in Barbershop, you can see the evidence right here.

Jimmy Kimmel and Matthew McConaughey Make a TV Spot For Austin’s Vulcan Video

This week, Jimmy Kimmel is back in Austin, TX for SXSW taping Jimmy Kimmel Live. Not only is Kimmel is making sure to visit more of Austin sights, but making sure both the world and the Greater Austin area know about them.

After asking for submissions by local Austin businesses if they wanted to be part of making a local TV spot, Jimmy Kimmel picked video rental store Vulcan Video (seems like Austin’s version of Cinefile or Vidiots) and enlisted Matthew McConaughey to make a very “local style” ad.

Not that we had any doubts, but it looks the next installment of IFC’s Spoils mini-series franchise, The Spoils Before Dying, could be just as epically overwrought featuring one heck of a cast.

Already, they have Michael K. Williams starring and now, they have Kristen Wiig, Haley Joel Osment, Michael Sheen, Val Kilmer, Steve Tom, and Marc Evan Jackson returning from The Spoils of Babylon as well as new cast members including Kate McKinnon, Tim Meadows, Chris Parnell, Emily Ratajkowski, Andy Daly, Chris Mulkey, Chin Han, Jack Kilmer, Patty Guggenheim, and Bérénice Marlohe.

So, just imagine all of this cast in a noir-ish murder mystery that follows a jazz piano player, but does so according to the words of Eric Jonrosh (Will Ferrell in a beard, fedora, and fat suit).

It’s Not Going To Be a “Mr. Show” Reunion, But Something Still With Bob, David, and The Writers of “Mr. Show”

Uncategorized

(via Uproxx/Rolling Stone)

There’s has been plenty of chatter around what could have been a reincarnation of Mr. Show with Bob and David for the last couple of a months now, but, in a recent Rolling Stone interview, Odenkirk offers some clarification in order to simultaneously quell rumors about Mr. Show coming back, but also keep us all excited.

Basically, there will be the same writers, as seen here, and Bob Odenkirk and David Cross will be the stars, but the show itself, as it would seem, will be something brand new and, by our estimation, something potentially even better.

The gathering of the moving parts of Mr. Show now looks like a comedy super group with such likes of Paul F. Tompkins, Scott Aukerman, Brian Posehn, and more all coming back.

Odenkirk himself says, “Better Call Saul is not Breaking Bad, but it’s written by the same writers and you can see connections, right? It hopefully will be quite the same as far as the relationship between the two shows.”

Still, with all of this being said, there are no details as to exactly where this new show will end up or when we can see it. Given Cross’ experiment with Hits, they’re probably exploring every single option online and on TV and maybe even elsewhere before they move forward.

In any case, you still should be excited for what’s happening here.

One could almost make a sub genre out of dark buddy road trip comedies just from the 21st century. We haven’t checked Netflix, so maybe that is a genre. If not, Jess Weixler and Jennifer Prediger’s Apartment Troubles would be a good example of said genre according to this trailer.

Weixler and Prediger star as the two roommates that go LA or bust in trying to make it in “the biz” and also features a supporting cast of Jeffrey Tambor, Will Forte, and Megan Mullally.

You can watch Apartment Troubles in theaters on Mar. 27th or you can watch it right now off of iTunes.
