Will Ferrell Goes Over The Important “Ritual” He Observes Every St. Patrick’s Day

March 18, 2015
Uncategorized
danny boy, late show, letterman, snakes, st. patrick, st. patrick's day, will ferrell

While getting trashed and pinching people who aren’t wearing some shade of green even though you’re well past being a kid seems to be the order of the day on St. Patrick’s Day, Will Ferrell has an “important message” that he shares every year on the very same holiday.

Ferrell, donned in a costume that would befitting to a St. Patrick’s Day themed sequel to Elf, went on Letterman to teach us all the “real” meaning of the day and even did his own version of Danny Boy.

Maybe Ferrell could do a “Danny Boy-off” versus Paul F. Tompkins as his next stunt for charity?

Jimmy Kimmel Live’s Guillermo Makes a Taco, Robert Rodriguez Style

What would a trip to Austin be for Jimmy Kimmel if he didn’t have some fun with filmmaking multi-hyphenate Robert Rodriguez and his security guard Guillermo?

So, Kimmel had Guillermo visit Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios and make some tacos, though not in the typical non-action movie oriented way.

Israel’s Satirical Topical Sketch Show “What a Wonderful Country” Could Set Record For Doing Sketch on TV After Election Results

March 18, 2015
Uncategorized

(via Deadline)

Certainly, there are live election specials from The Daily Show and Funny or Die will have teams work overnight to have sketches ready for the morning after, but usually they don’t involve full on sketches also performed live on TV.

Israel’s very popular satirical sketch show What a Wonderful Country or Eretz Nehederet could be the first show to do just that.

RecordSetter.com doesn’t even have a “Quickest Comedy Sketch Made on TV In Response To a Major Event” as a record, but that might become a category now having pulled off what would be the equivalent of SNL doing sketches an hour after polls closed.

Come to think of it, SNL doing such a thing could be just as intriguing as their 40th Anniversary.

Nick Offerman’s Wood Emojis From Conan Raised Over $93K

March 18, 2015
Uncategorized

Yep, wooden emojis, a joke about something that was already kind of absurd, are actually doing good in the world.

Last year, Conan O’Brien presented a bit about wood emojis that were handcrafted by Nick Offerman. Following that episode, people were actually into the idea of buying those wood emojis and Conan actually had them made.

They sold better than hotcakes.

As of now, over $93,000 has been raised for the Children’s Defense Fund Action Council. Let’s all hope that things like this, Will Ferrell’s spring day training stunt to benefit organizations fighting against cancer, and Kurt Braunohler’s jet skiing to send goats to Africa, keep happening more and more everyday.

If You’re In The World of Fast Food Commercial, What Happens After The Commercials Over?

Imagine a world where you were in a believable apartment with the perfect balance of ethnicity about to chow down on some tasty, affordable fast food.

You’re obviously in a fast food commercial, but what happens after 30 seconds when the duration of the TV spot is over? No one in the universe of CH2 knows until know

Jon Bershad and Ryan Hunter investigate this befuddling and mysterious nightmare scenario that “absolutely could happen” if you’re not careful.

Watch here and beware.

Clare McNulty and Bridey Elliot have trouble getting to a beach in 2014 SXSW’s grand jury prize winner Fort Tilden.

Thanks to Orion, the rest of us will get to see how great that ‘trouble’ is.

Written and directed by Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers, Elliot and McNulty run into the likes of Reggie Watts, Neil Casey, Will Hines, John Early, and more.

It might just be another female led buddy road trip comedy, perhaps like Apartment Troubles, to watch out for. Fort Tilden is set to come out in August.

Colin Quinn’s Cop Show continues to expertly take on the real culprit in police procedural TV series: tired, hackneyed premises and writing.

This time around he has the help of Michael Che.

Perhaps, like Burning Love got on E!, Cop Show will become a show on a network that will schedule it next to episodes of Law & Order, CSI, NCIS, and all their various spin-offs.

Norm MacDonald Enjoys His Last Appearance on Letterman and Takes a Souvenir

Norm MacDonald is just being Norm MacDonald, which is why you should be watching this right now.

Letterman’s exit is just over two months away and Norm made sure to not only notch in another classic Norm late night appearance with a story about “Mr. Baseball” Bob Uecker, but he also made sure to take a special gift from the Ed Sullivan Theater to remember his time there.

Full disclosure: we’re not sure how he got said gift out of the place.

Death, kids, divorce can all be enjoyed together as shown by Dana Gould.

Gould performed last night on Conan and gave us all something to think about in reaching those milestones of having a family, then potentially losing them, and then leaving this mortal coil all while having a good laugh.

Bill Murray and Sofia Coppola Christmas Special Will Follow Murray Avoiding Getting Representation and Will Have Clooney, Poehler, Etc.

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

So, that Christmas special that will star Bill Murray and be directed by Sofia Coppola is coming together.

First off, Murray will play himself as will George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and more. Then, eschewing more traditional holiday tropes in the majority of Christmas specials, the story will center on Bill avoiding by someone signing him as his representation in what we can only assume to be a Lost In Translation-esque romp through LA.

So, we were already on board for this and now, we’re even more on board if that’s possible.

No word on where this will end up, but we’re thinking HBO, AMC, IFC, FX, Netflix, Amazon, etc.

Will Ferrell Shows Up as Little Debbie on “The Tonight Show”

So, as far as we can see, Will Ferrell does more movies just so he can do whatever he wants on talk shows.

Apparently, following Get Hard, Ferrell signed a contract to be Little Debbie and promote Little Debbie snacks. He showed up in full Little Debbie garb last night on The Tonight Show and committed to it for the whole interview.

With such dedication, it’s no mystery as to why acting royalty Meryl Streep has a crush on him.

Armando Iannucci Working on a Comedy About The Death of Stalin

March 19, 2015
Uncategorized

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

What’s funny about the death of Stalin? Leave it to Armando Iannucci to make it probably one of the funniest things that will hit the big screens in a long time.

It’s getting safer and safer to say that Armando Iannucci is one of the most brilliant minds when it comes to political comedy. In The Loop, The Thick of It, and Veep always hit the marks of being both undeniably hysterical and incredibly poignant.

So, the idea of him working on his next feature project that’s “…a sort of comedy about the death of Stalin,” is pretty exciting. He’s still developing it, but we can only try and imagine what Stalin jokes he has percolating in his brain.

We wouldn’t be surprised at all if this become a sort of textbook to satirize dictators. After all, Iannucci has lectured intelligence agencies on comedy.

We’re not going to mince words here. Make sure you go to this if you’re in the Greater NYC area.

Aparna Nancherla is one of the funniest, most unique comedic voices right now that we’d hope you would know about. Her album taping on Jun. 2nd at Brooklyn’s Union Hall will undoubtedly be a great exhibition of how she straddles both wonder and being grounded in her comedy.

So, like we said three sentences ago, go to this.

So, if we’re all lucky, Hannibal Buress will get to do things like this on his Comedy Central series Why?

While on his Comedy Camisado tour, Buress opted to stay a little bit longer in Austin, TX to not only appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live, but also see if he could drum poorly for some band during their SXSW set.

Luckily, Speedy Ortiz obliged Hannibal on their last song.

With Gibberish Rap and this drumming performance, Hannibal might accidentally have a musical career like Jennifer Lawrence with that Hunger Games song.

Now, see Conan fans in another such place, Pakistan.

We guess this is only a preview to what sort of hijinks will happen when Jon Stewart actually leaves The Daily Show.

Will Ferrell stopped by The Daily Show last night and gave some “tough love” to Stewart regarding ending his run on the show.

Also, for some reason, Will, following his Little Debbie and St. Patrick’s Day get ups, is just in a t-shirt covered in Zach Galifianakis’ face.

So, you’re going to want make sure Tuesday nights are free.

The Late Late Show with James Corden premieres next Monday and with it, bandleader Reggie Watts has transplanted himself to Los Angeles after globetrotting anywhere and everywhere that people wanted to witness the comedic spells he casts.

We discovered last night while watching Reggie and the band for The Late Late Show that part of being transplanted and leading a band will be playing every Tuesday night starting in April (that would be Apr. 7th) at El Cid in Silverlake.

For over an hour, Reggie and his fantastic band  jam and get silly, funky, and spread all sorts of other good vibes. Basically, like we said, you’re probably going to want to go to this a lot.

You can get a taste of that tonight as Reggie and the band are playing El Cid tonight 10PM.

Additional performances include George Ezra, Noel Gallagher, OK Go, Olly Murs, The Ting Tings and Jessie Ware.

That’s a good run of guests, but we are curious if Hanks will end up being like Bill Murray is to Letterman or Amy Poehler is to Seth Meyers as a first and frequent guest.

For those with a general sense of yearning since Paul F. Tompkins’ Pod F. Tompkast’s last episode, you might not yearn any longer (also, you should probably check out Dead Authors and Superego).

Paul’s got a brand new podcast for us all.

Come Apr. 1st. (which is not a prank), Earwolf will premiere Spontaneanation with Paul F. Tompkins. It’s an improvised podcast that will feature Paul and the various friends of his that are exquisite improvisers letting loose based off a conversation.

From the sounds of this preview, the likes of Lauren Lapkus and his Superego partners will be joining Paul in the fun, so you’re definitely going to want to listen and subscribe.
