BuzzFeed Has Launched BuzzFeed Motion Pictures

BuzzFeed has raised $50 million to bank their newly rebranded BuzzFeed Motion Pictures. They’ll be making .gifs, full length feature films, and anything in between.

Given their branding, we’re guessing that there will be heavy comedic bent to a lot of content if it already isn’t actually a comedy web video/short/feature already.

Honestly, this could a multitude of directions in regards to format, tone, and quality, especially since BuzzFeed has been posting actual long form articles that aren’t in the form of lists as of late.

Earlier this year, we reported that one of favorite comedians Andrés du Bouchet would be not only releasing his 2nd album, but that album would be a 2 hour long compilation album of different bits and characters performed at several different places.

Well, now, Nov. 25th is when 20 Sided Guy will come out from AST Records and mark that date down on your calendar for when you will buy the album, laugh heartily and simultaneously have your mind blown.

The annual music/arts/more neighborhood weekend festival known as Echo Park Rising is back this week, Aug. 15th-17th and will feature a much more robust comedy line-up.

In fact, between the Time Travel Mart and Echoes Under Sunset, they’re going to have four shows featuring the likes of Maria Bamford, Steve Agee, Dana Gould, Sean Patton, Karen Kilgariff, Ian Karmel, Hampton Yount, Seaton Smith, Emily Heller, Chris Garcia, Matt Braunger, Sean O’Connor, and way more. Midnight Run, the show where all the comics are probably way too high when on stage, will be going down.

You might also like to know that it will all be free to attend, so while you wander hearing too many bands to count and eating from too many food trucks, make sure to catch some, if not all these shows.

Behind the face of The Daily Show and its host Jon Stewart is an entire, well oiled machine that maintains one of the sharpest comedy shows around as a perennial award winning comedy series.

Now, you can hear their story in a podcast called The Daily Show Podcast Without Jon Stewart that follows the folks on the show that are exclusively not Jon Stewart.

They just released their first episode with head writer Elliott Kalan and correspondent Jessica L. Williams, so you’ll probably be adding this to your regular podcast list soon.

This news unfortunately comes just as Williams was starting to get back into performing stand up live, often dropping into intimate shows like Meltdown or innovative shows like Set List.

Chris Hardwick Announces @midnight Renewed for 2015

If you were potentially worried that you might not get to see the index finger of Chris Hardwick point to any number of comedians while yelling out “Points!” in 2015, then potentially worry no more.

As Hardwick stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he announced that the midnight hit at Comedy Central “@midnight” has been picked up for another year at Comedy Central and will run through 2015.

Chris and Jimmy also joked about the possibility of doing a crossover episode with this renewal, but we wouldn’t be surprised at all if The Tonight Show and “@midnight” despite their time slot conflict, did some sort of crossover.

They’ve done some crazy things on “@midnight” in case you haven’t regularly watched it.

In addition to Ben Stiller’s remarks on the legitimate possibility of a Zoolander sequel 13 years after original, Justin Theroux, who played the evil DJ that is one of Mugatu/Will Ferrell’s henchmen, gave a little more backing to a Zoolander 2 actually happening.

While being interviewed by Vulture for his role in The Leftovers, Theroux commented that there is actual work being done on a script for the sequel and scheduling for everyone that would be involved has been an issue.

Hopefully, we will get to see the progress of The Derek Zoolander School for Kids Who Can’t Read Good and Want to Do Other Good Stuff Too sometime in the next year or so.

Hush Money Shows Why Bars Are The New Tower of Babel

Most bars are way too loud from the music blasting from the speakers at an unreasonable volume and the collective voices of dozens of people trying to shout over said music.

That’s why talking at most bars are not great for actually communicating any sort of information. In fact, it might just be like the Tower of Babel when everyone was speaking a different language as Hush Money clearly illustrates here.

After years of seeing painted cows in various cityscapes around the world, another animal sculpture is getting notoriety, touring globally. A giant rubber duck designed by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman has seen its way around throughout Asia and is set to have a stop at the LA Harbor next week.

Actually, each city builds its own giant rubber duck and the one here in LA will be approximately six stories high and lead a parade of ships in this year’s Tallships Festival LA.

So, now you know what will be filling up your Instagram feed here if you live in the Los Angeles area next week.

Sony Changing Military Uniform Buttons and, Possibly, Face Melting in ‘The Interview’

(NOTE: Spoilers possibly ahead) The Interview starring James Franco and Seth Rogen has been a hot button movie for Sony ever since it was first announced. Being fiercely decried by North Korea for its plot that follows the assassination of Kim Jong-Un, Sony has already moved back the release date to Christmas from October.

Now, they will be altering uniform buttons that the depicted North Korean military wears as well as thinking about changing a scene where Kim Jong-Un’s face is melted off.

Some of the reasoning behind these changes have been cited as “clearance issues” rather than political pressure, but who gets clearance from a military and a leader of a country that keeps contact with the U.S. to a minimum? Have higher-ups in North Korea have not seen the multitudes of web videos satirizing North Korea in a similar way?

More importantly, would North Korea really try to start a war over a movie?
