Comedy Central Following Louis C.K. Model by Offering Specials Online for $5

Comedy Central is putting up stand-up specials from Anthony Jeselnik, John Mulaney, Pete Holmes, and more for only $5 online following the precedent that Louis CK has set with how he distributes his specials (this is more proof of why he’s deserving for winning a Webby Person of the Year Award).

This should be a nice treat for comedy nerds that need to round out their collections, but we wonder if this will attract casual comedy fans into more stand-up.

BBC Comedy Chief Doesn’t Like Criticism of New Shows Online/Doesn’t Get the Internet

Though we don’t really try to encourage the negativity that festers on the Internet, it does seem ridiculous that the head of comedy at BBC is basically asking the Internet to be nicer to brand new shows.

We say: Why don’t you have a little more faith in the projects you’re backing instead of keeping them on a short leash/canceling them based off of vicious comment threads?

One of the longest running open mics not only in LA or even in the U.S., but we’d bet in the whole world, Westwood Brew Co hosted by Robert Yasumura and Vance Sanders, is coming to a close as a result of the entire bar/restaurant being sold.

There is so much history that small triangular stage with no A/C has been witness to with some of comedy’s biggest names gracing its stage at one point or another with plenty of comedy’s soon to be biggest names cutting their teeth or honing their craft there over the last few years.

Don’t miss its swan song night on July 23rd that we’d suggest to get there definitely before 8 for how packed it will be.

It’s even getting a physical CD release, so you can actually go physically pick it up, which we recommend.

“Live in Oakland” comes out Jul. 16th, but you can now get it on pre-order.
