Rick & Morty Make The Best Carl’s Jr./Hardee’s Ad in Recent Memory

December 1, 2015
Uncategorized

Forget all the times scantily clad models like Kate Upton had sauce drip on them while they eat a Carl’s Jr. or Hardee’s hamburger for one of those long running patriarchy reaffirming ads.

Animated burgers brought to life by Rick Sanchez to terrorize Morty Smith, from Rick and Morty, is definitely the way to go for a new ad campaign.

Also, The New MST3K Will Now Have 6 Episodes and Patton Oswalt Is Going to Play The Evil Henchmen

Well, that didn’t take long from when we first posted about it this morning.

Yep, the goal of $3,300,000 was just surpassed moments ago and there will be at least 6 new episodes of the new MST3K.

The cast of the new Mystery Science Theater 3000, as it stands now, will have Jonah Ray as host, Felicia Day as Mad, Hampton Yount as Crow, Baron Vaughn as Servo, and, now, the one and only Patton Oswalt as an evil henchmen. More specifically, series creator Joel Hodgson announced that Patton is set to be TV’s Son of TV’s Frank who will be reporting to Kinga Forrester (Felicia Day).

That’s pretty stellar and we have no idea why a network wouldn’t get behind this.

Still, we can have 12 episodes of MST3K if the $5.5 million goal is reached by Dec. 11th.

The First Episode of “Transparent” Season 2 Will Be on Amazon Prime Tonight

(via Deadline)

You’re probably already on Amazon taking advantage of all the Cyber Monday deals that you can. So, it’s just a few clicks away to kick off the new season of Transparent.

Starting at 5PM PST/8PM EST, the very first episode of season 2 of Transparent will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime. That’s well over a week before the scheduled premiere/release of this new season on Dec. 11th.

Here’s the trailer in case you don’t know what you’re in for.

Today would probably be as good as any to get Amazon Prime if you don’t already have it.

Sneaker Review Expert Brad Hall Devises Way to Feature as Much Ad Space as Possible in a Sneaker Review Video

In the spirit of Morgan Spurlock’s Greatest Movie Ever Sold, Brad Hall, who makes great, offbeat shoe review videos, has overloaded himself with advertisers to feature at no charge. Yet, he’s made almost every frame of his latest unboxing video in order to feature all the advertisers on a video essentially advertising a new sneaker.

See how he figured out how to have possibly one of the most sponsors, albeit, free ones, featured in a YouTube video while he reviews the Air Jordan Retro High in Black, released exclusively for Cyber Monday.

Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein Finally Attempt Sexual Congress for Season 6 of Portlandia

Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein have said over and over in interviews that they know too much about each other to ever seriously date.

However, five seasons of their show, Portlandia, may have broken down enough barriers to at least make a technical go at coitus.

Just watch them go at it (?), then be sure to catch the season 6 premiere of Portlandia on Thurs. Jan. 21st at 10PM on IFC.

The MST3K Revival Has Almost Reached Its 4-6 Episode Goal on Kickstarter

Hodgson and company have raised of $3,190,406 of $3,300,000 as of this post.

Ultimately, so many of us would like to see over $5.5 million raised for the new Mystery Science Theater 3000 in order to see 12 episodes featuring Jonah Ray, Baron Vaughn, Hampton Yount, Felicia Day, and a yet to be announced “evil henchmen”.

The Kickstarter campaign is inching closer to that goal, but it’s even closer to the 2nd tier goal of making 6 new MST3K episodes. There are 11 days left on the campaign and given how fast people contributed in the first go around of Joel Hodgson’s Kickstarter launch, we’re sure this is definitely within the realm of possibility.

FYI, there are only two $400 donation packages left where you can get a personalized voicemail from the new MST3K crew. Get in on all of it here.

Daniel Van Kirk Writing Digital Sketch Series “Attention Deficit Theater” Starring and Produced by Jaime King for The CW Seed

November 30, 2015
Uncategorized

(via Deadline)

The series is created by John Montgomery and is apparently not just using “attention deficit theater” as a cool name.

The CW has been on a hot streak with comedy with Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. We’re glad to see that they’re bringing that streak to their digital platform, CW Seed with a new comedy web series actually focusing on the ins and outs of attention deficit disorder with the likes of Jaime King at the forefront.

We’re excited to know that Dan Van Kirk, who we’d hope you would know from so many great Earwolf podcasts, his stellar Mark Wahlberg impression, etc., will be writing the 10 episodes of the sketch series that have been ordered.

When this drops early next year, this will definitely be worth checking out.

Morgan Spurlock to Direct W. Kamau Bell’s First Stand-Up Special

Acclaimed documentarian Morgan Spurlock has slowly, but surely acquainted with himself more and more with comedy over the last few years. Just look at the humor throughout We The Economy.

Now, he’s really throwing his hat in the comedy ring with directing the first stand-up special for W. Kamau Bell. Of course, Bell being the socio-poltically conscious comedian that he is, it seems like a match made in heaven or whatever higher state of being you believe in.

If you’re in NYC this week, specifically in Brooklyn at Roulette on Dec. 2nd, you can and should go to the taping of this special. RSVP here.

In case you were wondering what was missing today, it was Never Not Funny’s annual Pardcastathon.

For those not into indulging into unbridled consumerism on Black Friday, the amazing Jimmy Pardo usually had the perfect alternative by doing a 12 hour Never Not Funny marathon with a plethora of the funniest people around and celebrities doing various goofs and funny business to raise money for Smile Train.

Well, according to this tweet, they’re postponing it from its usually scheduled date to Sat. March 5th, 2016, perhaps with something a little bigger up their sleeve. Let your imagination run wild with Pardo and company (Matt Belknap, Pat Francis, and more) could be brewing up.

In the meantime, you can still support the great charity that is Smiletrain by donating here.

R.I.P. Andy Ritchie

November 27, 2015
Uncategorized

Another comedian has left us all far too early.

Yesterday, on Thanksgiving, Andy Ritchie, passed away after a long battle with brain cancer. Brendon Walsh wrote this on the GoFundMe page that has raised over $100K to pay for Andy’s medical bills (note: Brendon has asked for the donations to stop coming in):

Andy passed away this afternoon at Hollywood Presbyterian. His mom, Ruby, and his brother Simon were all with him.

I don’t know what else to say. He was a great guy. Listen to his album on Spotify or download it or whatever. He’s hilarious.

Thanks for everything you all did to help. Have a good Thanksgiving.

Love,
Brendon

Andy was loved by many including Daniel Tosh, who boosted the fundraising campaign by giving it national attention on Tosh.0. His craftsman like jokes and his genuinely good nature made an impression on everyone he met, especially throughout the comedy community.

We were at The Happy New Year Show, earlier this week, run by some of Andy’s best friends, Chuck Watkins and Doug Mellard, who impromptu made their New Year’s themed show a wonderful tribute to Andy even though Andy hadn’t passed on at the time.

It takes a special comedian and person for such a thing to happen at a comedy show.

So, let us remember Andy the best way we can remember any comedian by sharing his jokes with the world that didn’t get to hear them just yet.

Comedy Central Is Launching Annual Comedy Central International Comedy Festival in Johannesburg

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

Trevor Noah has not only put South Africa on the map comedy-wise, but him hosting at The Daily Show will have given African comedy a big spark.

For the next 3 years and potentially longer, Comedy Central will be hosting an international comedy festival, simply called The Comedy Central International Comedy Festival. Its inaugural run will take place very soon in Johannesburg, South Africa which will be the perfect place to stage a homecoming for the network’s newest franchise star, Trevor Noah.

With Comedy Central’s banner flying at the festival, the likes of Jeff Ross, Hannibal Buress, and more will be on the same stages as some of African comedy’s rising stars.

Thousands upon thousands are expected to be in attendance and if that does indeed happen, this festival will be in the league with JFL Montreal and The Melbourne International Comedy Festival i.e. the biggest comedy festivals in the world.

Greg Proops “In the Ball Park” Comes Out This Week from AST Records

Whether it comes to wit, verve, his command of the English language, and his seemingly inexhaustable knowledge of the world, Greg Proops never lets up.

On his sixth record, In The Ball Park, Proops not only shows he can keep up with the changing times in comedy, but can thrive in it on his own terms. You’ll notice on this album, just like much of his discography, that Greg still shifts gears flawlessly between topics, ranging from gun control to white pants to baseball, jokes, jokes within jokes, etc. without needing to take a breath.

You can see what we’re saying when you listen to this track.

In The Ball Park comes out on this Fri. Nov. 27th, but you can and should pre-order it now on iTunes or on vinyl from AST Records.
