This New Semi-Faux Featurette for Amy Poehler and Tina Fey’s “Sisters” Assures That You Can Watch Both Sisters and Star Wars on The Same Weekend

December 3, 2015
Uncategorized

On Dec. 18th, both Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the latest Tina Fey and Amy Poehler offering, Sisters, roll out into theaters nationwide. Fey and Poehler are obviously worried that an original film might not have the draw of the return of Star Wars, so they made this Star Wars-tinged featurette that encourages you to watch at least two movies that weekend before Christmas.

Actually, so many of the opening day tickets, over $50 million worth of them, for Star Wars have been sold out already. So, odds are that you probably have little conflict on what you want to see on the weekend of Dec. 18th.

Anything from Monty Python: Live at the Hollywood Bowl to the brand new variety series hosted by The UCB 4, The UCB Show, to Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place to SNL to The Kids in the Hall to The World of Alan Partridge to…

30 Rock, stand-up from George Carlin, Louis C.K., Sarah Silverman, Amy Schumer, Hannibal Buress, TJ Miller, Kyle Kinane, Reggie Watts, Sean Patton, Eddie Pepitone, Jon Dore, Bo Burnham, Donald Glover, Garfunkel & Oates, Tim Minchin, and way more.

Really, that’s just scratching the surface. Actually, since this is the beta version, it’s only scratching the surface of scratching the surface of what the beta version of Seeso has got in store for us all like Harmonquest, Hidden America with Jonah Ray, etc..

Oh yeah, we should have mentioned that all of this is free until Jan. 6th, which makes one hell of a Christmas presents from Seeso. Get into all of it here.

Nikki Glaser Puts Her Friends Through Polygraph Test to See If They’d Have Sex With Her

By February, TV will actually have two new, highly anticipated shows hosted by very funny women. You probably know that Full Frontal with Samantha Bee is coming to TBS, but Not Safe with Nikki Glaser is also coming to Comedy Central on Tues. Feb. 9th at 10:30PM.

From the looks of this remote segment involving a polygraph test, her close friends, and some suggestive questions, Not Safe should be really damn fun too.

Please Enjoy the Brilliant Performance Art Installation Comedy That Is Moses Storm’s #MODERNMILLENNIAL

Simply put, Moses Storm is only getting started with his master plan in comedy.

This wonderfully absurd plan where Moses Kickstarted a space, where he would both live and “perform”, made a rare and great bit of comedy of verisimilitude. Also, his poking at the idea of a ‘millennial’ is pitch perfect in a way that both millennials and the older generations that hate them love it.

So, with that said, please watch and enjoy and spread #MODERNMILLENNIAL.

Harrison Ford Makes Us Remember How Great of a Late Night Guest He Can Be on Fallon

Whether or not you’re caught up with the return of Star Wars or the late night juggernaut that is The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Harrison Ford’s stop by Fallon’s desk last night was pretty great. It was a call back of how fun a late night interview, on any late night talk show, should be.

Though not as spry as the Han Solo from the original Star Wars, Ford still has the same attitude that made him perfect for the role that clashed well with Fallon’s desire to not draw the ire of Harrison.

Yondr Might Have Phone Free Live Comedy Figured Out

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

Hannibal Buress has used it successfully and Dave Chappelle is getting set to put Yondr to use in his next show.

All Yondr utilizes is a pouch that locks your phone away while you’re in the showroom of whatever venue you’re at, then unlocks if you step out to the lobby to make a call, send a text message, etc. It seems like a beautifully simple solution to a constant problem that has plagued not only live comedy, but live music, movie screenings, etc. We’ll have to see how it plays out in the next few big time shows, but we won’t be surprised if these pouches keep showing up at more live show venues.

We wonder if that’s going to cause certain folks to carry a decoy phone or figure some way to sneak something else the records video or takes pictures into a show. Even if they do, it’ll be pretty obvious who is doing so at a show if no one else is taking pictures or recording anything.

Hopefully, this sort of technology won’t find its way into political events, rallies, dinners, speeches, etc.

If you’ve been further wondering what Baron Vaughn as Tom Servo and Hampton Yount as Crow T. Robot might sound like when in action for the new Mystery Science Theater 3000, look no further than their “leaked auditions” for Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Funny or Die.

As we suspected, they look like they’re going to do just fine.

The Black List  and Indigenous Media Have Launched ‘Film Incubator’ to Make Short Films Based on Feature Length Screenplays

They’re looking for dramas, thrillers, and, most importantly, comedies.

If you’ve got a screenplay that has core characters that are millennials, you might have a shot of getting a short film made that could possibly lead to the full-length feature version getting greenlit.

Indigenous Media and The Black List are collaborating on this Film Incubator with $100K set aside for this whole endeavor and are taking submissions until Jan. 17th, 2016.

Get more details and submit here.

Hannah Horvath and her squad are back at it again with all the torment of still realistically trying to grow up and trying to stay friends while doing so.

That’s right, Girls is back for its fifth season and it doesn’t look like it’s going to hold anything back, just like it’s been doing for the last four seasons.

Watch the trailer here, then watch the premiere on Sun. Feb. 21st at 10PM on HBO.

“You’re The Worst” Renewed for a Third Season

FX is very smart to keep You’re The Worst around on FXx, especially as The League is coming to a close.

We’re getting another whole season of the modern day, unfiltered romance of Jimmy and Gretchen, warts and all, as FX has just reupped Stephen Falk’s You’re The Worst for its third season.

Falk has already covered so much thematic and emotional territory that Falk we’ll undoubtedly be taken pleasantly by surprise again when the third season rolls around.

TruTV Orders Pilots from Tom Segura and Melissa Hunter

TruTV, keep doing what you’re doing.

In addition to the early renewal of Those Who Can’t yesterday, TruTV is continuing to bulk up their brand with the additions of a pilot deal and script from Tom Segura and Melissa Hunter, respectively. Segura is a great stand-up and you probably know Hunter better as Adult Wednesday Addams.

TruTV has Tom developing a medical comedy and Melissa working on a project centered on a “amateur vigilante squad”. There aren’t details beyond that, but we’ll be watching these and the rest of what TruTV has cooking because, from where we’re standing, it smells pretty good so far.

The Duplass Brothers Set to Write Book of Essays

There’s a certain method to the madness of going from independent film to premium cable to essays.

Coming from Ballantine Books, Mark and Jay Duplass will publish a book filled with essays focused on their life experiences from childhood until now. If they’ve been able to make great art of their lives like they did with This Is John, we’re sure that this will be worth a read, if not several.

It’s going to be awhile though until this book comes out. The release date is set for sometime in 2017.

Leave it to Billy Eichner and Billy on the Street to stir up this beautiful madness.

Well before the premiere on Thurs. Feb. 11th at 10:30PM on TruTV, The Grawlix gang (Adam Cayton-Holland, Ben Roy, and Andrew Orvedahl) has scored themselves an order for a second season of their series Those Who Can’t.

That must mean that something real good is in store for their show like a bearded, straight edged Rory Scovel and, by the looks of this trailer, we’re going to second that notion.

Honest Trailers Shows How Much of a Marketing Ploy “Minions” Really Was

December 1, 2015

honest trailers, minions, screen junkies

You remember when Minions came out, right? Of course you do, because every square inch of your environs was pretty much covered in some sort of Minions-related advertising.

Well, the folks at Screen Junkies hit that point home as well as some pretty big flaws with the movie itself in their Honest Trailer for Minions. Not that the children that this movie was marketed for would understand the bigger picture here, but the Honest Trailer is a nice consolation for the rest of us.

Watch it here.

Already, Anomalisa is racking up awards buzz before its hit limited release.

As you might know by now, Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson’s latest film takes stop motion animation to a whole new level by making an all out dramedy.

The subtlety involved in such a project is staggering as is showcased in this behind-the-scenes featurette.

If you’re already hooked, fortunately, you won’t have to wait to much longer to see it as Anomalisa will start playing in select cities on Dec. 30th.

We’re sure more trailers are going to come out in leading up to its release on Feb. 12th, but, from the looks of it, they haven’t given too much away quite yet like so many other collections of trailers as of late.

Adam Conover and the team over at Adam Ruins Everything are here to save the day again. This time, they take down the gender bias of video games towards boys, which is the underlying cause that lead to the awful, shameful garbage that is Gamergate.

If you’re jonesing for Last Week Tonight during its current month long hiatus, you should try Adam Ruins Everything.

“Brian Regan: Live From Radio City Music Hall” Now Available for Digital Download

For the probably many of you that didn’t get a chance to watch Brian Regan’s latest hour special because you don’t watch anything live, here’s your chance, finally, to see Brian Regan work NYC’s legendary Radio City Music Hall.

On Sept. 26th, Brian Regan pulled off essentially a stand-up comedy version of a tight rope walk by doing an entire hour comedy special completely live on Comedy Central.

Now, you can and should download that landmark special that he taped at Radio City Music Hall, uncut and without commercials all off of Comedy Central’s CC:Direct for $7-$10.

It’s the least you can do for missing out on the live experience, which was kind of the point of the whole live broadcast angle.
