The Black List Starts to Open Database to Student Producers and Directors

At participating universities, you can now get a chance to get in on Hollywood’s hot list for non-produced screenplays, The Black List.

It’s a move that’s only going to open the floodgates open for more different, intriguing voices that, possibly, haven’t been quite bent to the will of the current studio system. That just might just be what Hollywood needs right now.

Will Ferrell could just make a whole series of movies where he impersonates former U.S. Presidents, specifically focusing on their faults.

After being a noted impersonator of George W. Bush, Will Ferrell has been cast to play President Ronald Reagan in a movie focusing on after he left office and was struck with dementia.

Ferrell’s attention to detail and caricature of George W. Bush was incredibly studied and we can only begin to imagine what he’ll do to pull of a crazed Regan.

Gary Sanchez will be producing the movie called “Reagan”, which should leave room for Ferrell to go as big, in so many ways, as he wants with the role and the film.

They’re looking for dramas, thrillers, and, most importantly, comedies.

If you’ve got a screenplay that has core characters that are millennials, you might have a shot of getting a short film made that could possibly lead to the full-length feature version getting greenlit.

Indigenous Media and The Black List are collaborating on this Film Incubator with $100K set aside for this whole endeavor and are taking submissions until Jan. 17th, 2016.

Get more details and submit here.

Here’s a List of Film Festivals That Will Accept Your Shorts, Series, Sketches, and More If They’re Already Online

With the proliferation of sites like YouTube, Vimeo, and Funny or Die, it’s hard to gauge as someone who makes funny short films, sketches, web series, etc. whether it’s better to distribute your content online or try taking it to the festival circuit first. Several festivals immediately disqualify it if it’s already posted online making that a tough decision, but that is starting to change as this list as the link above shows.
