Here’s the First Trailer for Hulu’s Modern Day Muslim Comedy “Ramy”

March 12, 2019
Uncategorized
hulu, ramy youssef, trailer

Ramy Youssef’s semi-autobiographical eponymous series seeks to give a that dramedy single camera perspective on what it means to be a young Muslim in America these days.

With A24 and Jerrod Carmichael on board, we were already very intrigued as to what this project might be and, with this trailer, we are even more excited as to the full potential of Ramy. For all the themes and points-of-view that it explores, it would almost seem like this show is long overdue.

If this really is as good as the trailer is promising it to be 2019 is shaping up to be quite a year for Hulu (with PEN15 being pretty much beloved across the board).

Look for all episodes of Ramy to start streaming on Fri., Apr. 19th.

Arrested Development Season 5 Part 2 Gets a Trailer

Uncategorized
arrested development, netflix, season 5, trailer

Sure, there is season 5 part 2, but given Arrested Development’s insane trajectory as a television show (how the show has been made over the years is possibly as crazy as the actual storylines in the show), what will this end up meaning in the grand scheme of the show’s history? Arrested Development is so wonderfully meta and self-referential already, maybe these new episodes should be called “part deux”?

As we have not seen any of these upcoming episodes, we’re not sure exactly what’s going to happen, but we do know that, when all is said and done, watching Arrested Development in its entirety will probably break your brain (probably in a good way that is).

In any case, here’s a taste of what you are in store for starting Mar. 15th.

Veep’s Final Season Gets a Trailer

Veep, for what will be 7 seasons, will undoubtedly be remembered as producing some of the best political comedy and satire ever in television history (that’s on top of having so many bitingly funny jokes per minute that it’d put any multi cam sitcom to shame in that regard and giving the indomitable Julia Louis-Dreyfus another platform to shine)

So, with all of that in mind, get ready for Veep’s 7th and final season, premiering on HBO Sun. Mar. 31st, with this trailer.

FX’s What We Do In The Shadows Gets a Full Trailer

fx, trailer, what we do in the shadows

The long awaited TV adaptation of the beloved What We Do In The Shadows is coming soon, March 27th on FX to be exact, and we’ve been teased and teased and teased for several months now.

Now, you’ve got a bigger tease with this trailer as the premiere date approaches and it’s all the silliness that you could want drenched in vampire lore (and clever things adjacent to vampire lore) and a muted color palate that you could want from Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. We’re all so lucky that the minds and stars behind the original film are also EPs on the series.

Better Things Season 3 Trailer Really Seems to Offer Better Things (On TV) Come This February

A lot has happened between season two and the upcoming season three with Better Things considering Louis C.K.’s involvement with the show and what has happened to him within that time (i.e. his fall from grace and losing almost every project he was working on).

Despite all of that, Pamela Adlon is marching on very confidently with the show and it seems from the trailer that she’s offering up a very promising third season that will follow a critically acclaimed second season.

See for yourself in this very enjoyable S3 trailer here, then look for Better Things’ S3 premiere on FX on Thurs., Feb. 28th.

Watch Trailer for Jordan Peele and Charlie Sanders’ Sci-Fi Comedy Anthology Series “Weird City”

When we were hearing rumblings of this project from Jordan Peele and Charlie Sanders, we were imagining a funnier version of Black Mirror. This trailer does not disappoint in this regard. In fact, the premise of Weird City having a dystopian populous divvied up literally between Haves and Have Nots is the sort of Peele touch we were hoping for.

See for yourself in the trailer for Weird City here, then look for the series on YouTube Originals starting Feb. 13th.

While you’re waiting for the world to forget about Sacha Baron Cohen so he can pull off another feat almost unbelievable undercover satire, you might do well to look elsewhere for your expert level ribbing of the powers that be. One of the places would be the works of Danish filmmaker Mads Brügger, who brought the world a documentary following a “comedy troupe” touring North Korea with Red Chapel.

Now, he’s coming out with a mockumentary that follows a scheming duo looking to set up a racket centered entirely around a St. Bernard. Even though it’s a mockumentary as opposed to a documentary, it looks to have some Baron-Cohen-esque fun.

See for yourself in the trailer here, then look for St. Bernard Syndicate in limited theatrical release starting Jan. 18th (and iTunes on Feb. 5th).

It took the rare talents of someone like Bill Murray to not only make Groundhog Day work, but be one of the most beloved comedies of all time.

Fortunately, we’re pretty sure that Natasha Lyonne is one of those talents as this trailer for the upcoming Netflix series Russian Doll (coming from Lyonne, Amy Poehler, and Leslye Headland), despite stepping into well worn comedic territory of reliving the same day over-and-over, is pretty enticing pretty much because of her.

See for yourself here, then mark Feb. 1st on your calendar for season 1 to begin streaming.

With Man Seeking Woman, we all got a glimpse of the wildly colorful and clever imagination of one Simon Rich.

Now, Simon’s is upping the ante with his new show over at TBS, Miracle Workers where indeed Steve Buscemi and Daniel Radcliffe along with Geraldine Viswanathan (Blockers) are at odds with each other, God and angels, over the fate of Earth.

Already, there’s a lot of charm that you can see in this first full trailer, especially when it comes to the endless possibilities (almost in Good Place sort of way) to explore within the bloated corporation with which God runs the universe. The very end of this trailer definitely peaked our interest for the series FYI.

In any case, you’ll get your full first taste of Miracle Workers on Tues., Feb. 12th at 10:30PM on TBS.

For several years, a much sought after milestone for comedians was getting the title of being a Just For Laughs Montreal New Face. Though it’s a list intended largely for industry types, it has been established as a marker for who to watch out for, especially with stand-up.

Thus, comics compete intensely for the limited number of slots they hand out every year up in Montreal for the hope that they can call themselves a New Face whether they ends up being an actual big break or not (even if they’ve had a good amount of exposure and success already).

Inside Jokes follows a handful comics (including folks we really dig such as Simon Gibson, MK Paulsen, Rosebud Baker, and Robert Dean) on this journey and you can get a taste of it right here. It premieres on Amazon Prime starting on Fri., Nov. 30th.

Oh, if you want a spoiler to how ends up getting to be a New Face, here’s the list for your convenience.

The well worn rom com trope of “will-they-or-won’t-they” has gotten a fresh and gritty update from You’re the Worst for four seasons. In fact, the series is ingeniously set up for Jimmy and Gretchen (as well as anyone else in the series) to possibly not live happily ever after, but still be plenty of fun the whole way through.

The trailer for the fifth and final season rides that tension even further.

Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until January 9th when this season premieres on FXx to even begin to see what really lies in store.

While the news cycle make the perception of time distorted where two years ago might seem like a long, long, long time ago (JGLG premiered Oct. 2016), Jon Glaser Loves Gear’s 2nd season is finally just around the corner.

The guide to “gear” show/meta comedy made our annual year end list and we couldn’t wait to see how Jon’s obsession with gadgetry takes a dark toll on his personal life would play out in a second season. From the looks of the trailer, it seems like season 2 will not disappoint.

With a season 2 premiere date of January 9th on TruTV, this might be the first great thing in comedy in 2019.

In short, that’s enough for us to get on board.

Martin Scorsese’s Wolf of Wall Street did cover the infamous stock market crash known as Black Monday, but this upcoming eponymous Showtime series from Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, David Caspe, and Jordan Cahan is entirely dedicated to it.
