You’ve probably heard of quiz/trivia nights tailored specifically to something like The Beatles or The Simpsons (i.e. Stonecutters @ Nerdmelt, first Saturday of every month)

However, a entire night of Comedy Nerd Trivia might be just breaking new ground.

Two weeks from now, Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe in Silverlake will be hosting its very first night of Comedy Nerd Trivia and having spoken to the folks putting it together (and offering up some trivia of our own), rest assured that it will indeed test the depths of your comedy knowledge. Also, the very, very fun Steven Castillo, who just made it to JFL Montreal’s New Faces this year, will be hosting.

As long as you have a team of 2-5 people and buy two drinks, you’re good to play.

We don’t have DCM in LA, but we’ve got improv festivals-a-plenty.

One of the ones that you should absolutely catch is the LA Indie Improv Festival that happens with almost 200 teams between two venues (The Clubhouse and Lyric Hyperion) this weekend (8/12 & 8/13).

Slated to perform are many of LA’s best improvisers including such teams as:

Private Street, Boss Jr., The Faculty, Some Kinda Monster, Arts & Athletics, Rococo, Jacob Wysocki Makes Improvisers Do Short Form, Three Princes, Crashbar, The Colin Kaepernicks, Convoy, Outside Dog, Big Grande, and Dopetown 3000 (on a bus).

Oh, we should mention that it’s free to attend.

A descent into the psyche of Jamie Loftus is an experience that we’ve enjoyed reveling in for the last couple of years now.

So, a show that’s specifically themed to losing her virginity 7 years ago hosted by the man she lost her virginity to sounds pretty great to us.

Also, in Jamie’s own words, there will be:

– A STUPID-ASS PLAY WITH ME N BARBIE
– FREE ZINES FOR THOSE WHO RSVP IN ADVANCE
– ENTERTAINMENT B/W SCENES FROM LUMINARIES SUCH AS:
Lizzy Cooperman, Mira Gonzalez, Christina Catherine Martinez, Mitra Joy,Caitlin Durante, Alana Levinson, Corie Johnson, MY PARENTS Jill andMike, MY BROTHER Ben, MY OBOE TEACHER
– NEW CARTOONS FROM ME JAMIE
– THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE YOUR PHOTOGRAPH WITH A MASSIVE SEVERED HYMEN WHO WILL TELL YOUR FORTUNE
– LIVE COMMENTARY FROM STEVEN WHO ACTIVELY PARTICIPATED IN AUGUST 15 2010 INTHAT HE WAS THE ONE WHO TOOK FROM ME THAT WHICH I CAN NEVER GET BACK (CONSENSUALLY)

For what could be a life-altering show, donations will be accepted.

One of Our Favorite Venues in LA, The Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe, Needs Help Via Indiegogo

We spend a good deal of time at The Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe as some of the best, most innovative shows in town often happen there (Dr. Brown, Natalie Palamides, Modern Vaudeville, Feel Good Podcast, Underbelly, etc.) as well as a healthy round of open mics that have really fostered a community within theater itself.

Recently, they’re in urgent need of repairs to the theater and are crowdfunding in order to cover the cost of said repairs.

Please consider helping them so they can continue putting on their amazing shows and continue to grow.
