No, not play basically the same character he was in both The LEGO Movie and Barbie, but throwing a big, blowout night of comedy and music in support for the amazing charity that is Cancer for College, supporting young people trying to make their way in the world despite battling cancer.

It’s going to be another “Best Night of Your Life”, a sequel if you will (as that is how it’s being billed).

Patti Harrison has frankly deserved more air time on late night to do whatever she wants for quite some time. That said, she has gotten to be a correspondent on The Tonight Show a few times and her visibility keeps rising with being included in plenty of showcases and booking movie and TV roles including her co-starring role with Ed Helms in the upcoming Together Together.

Still, she hasn’t done late night by sitting on the couch for a proper late night interview where she could add her oh so subtle, yet very sharp and deliciously dark sense of humor to a traditional back-and-forth with slickly suited talk show host.

Harrison proved our notion last night in her very first full panel interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, done in promotion of Together Together, by beautifully explaining how she got kicked off Twitter, apologizing to bisexual people and their specific preference in cookies, and her ongoing thing with Trump.

History of Swear Words will be the latest bit of edutainment from Netflix and, today, we got a little bit of a better sense what the split between the education and entertainment will be.

Certainly, tapping Nic Cage hosting a program about swearing is the spot on fun choice. Having an extensive panel that stretches from such luminaries as Elvis Mitchell to a whole row of comedians including Sarah Silverman, Jim Jefferies, Nikki Glaser, Joel Kim Booster, and Patti Harrison to linguistics experts does suggest a pretty good edutainment balance (i.e. this won’t entirely be Nicolas Cage screaming obscenities, but that’s certainly in there).

Get a look of what’s in store for History of Swear Words with this trailer, then look for it to start streaming on Tues. Jan. 5th, 2021 on Netflix.

Pick of the Day: Padma Puts On a Virtual Comedy Show 12/17

We told you that there would be plenty of big time comedy benefit shows for the Georgia Runoffs and, lordy lordy, there sure are. This latest one is being put up by the one and only Padma Lakshmi that’s very explicit in this regard by being called, “Padma Puts on a Virtual Comedy Show for the Georgia Runoff Elections: An Evening to Benefit FairFight”.

Stacey Abrams’ FairFight was instrumental in registering voters and contributing to Biden’s 2020 Election win and will undoubtedly be crucial in the upcoming special Georgia Senate Runoffs.

So, they tapped Padma for a live benefit show and she, in turn, got one hell of a line-up that includes:

Though eulogies don’t really cross into the territory of comedy specials, this year hasn’t been a time for anything normal. Actually, 2020 is the focus of said special entitled, “Yearly Departed” and is a good-riddance send-off to the year that has and continues and will traumatize all of us living through it.

For 2020 getting kicked to the curb, this special has a marvelous and feisty line-up of comedy folks including Rachel Brosnahan, Tiffany Haddish, Patti Harrison, Natasha Legerro, Sarah Silverman, Natasha Rothwell, Ziwe, and Phoebe Robinson hosting for the evening.

It’s a roast of 2020 at 2020’s funeral and it sure looks like the socially distanced party had a hell of a time letting 2020 know what they thought of it (even though we’ll have to likely deal with so much of 2020 for a good chunk, if not most of, 2021).

Upcoming Book “Notes from the Bathroom Line” Has One of Hell of a Line-up of Contributors

Nori Reed is a great comedian that blessed LA with her presence in moving down from SF not too long ago. She is also a trans woman who, tragically, is in need of safe housing due to being forced out earlier this month by a bigot she was living with.

So, there is a big benefit live-stream comedy show next month that aims to raise enough money to help her live and thrive in a space that she deserves. Safe Housing 4 Nori Reed will take place on Sat. The beloved Weirdo Night with Dynasty Handbag at Zebulon is doing a virtual edition of their monthly gathering of all sorts of weirdo performers from all sorts of wondrous corners of performance (though it’s mostly in and around comedy). Normally dazzling the folks of NYC, Peter Smith and Sandy Honig (perhaps you’ve seen her as part of Three Busy Debras?) are bringing their comedy-striptease-music-variety extravaganza The Bongo Hour for a pop-in at Dynasty Typewriter along with Ben Moss and Bang Bang Luna.

See what we’ve been missing out on this coast (not to mention that you’ll get to enjoy the likes of John Early and Patti Harrison)

The comedic forces of Patti Harrison, Mitra Jouhari, and Catherine Cohen are assembling once more for their show known as It’s A Guy Thing, happening this time at The Bootleg on Thurs., May 9th at 7:30PM.

On their own, you shouldn’t miss their experimental, absurdist, dark, musical-forward comedy and certainly shouldn’t miss it when they’re together (i.e. this will probably sell out soon).

Well, NYC’s renowned Las Culturistas podcast, hosted by Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, is finally coming to LA to do a round of their beloved I Don’t Think So, Honey! next month.

For the uninitiated, 50 comedians (you can see above that they’ve assembled many of LA’s best) will get to fiercely rant for one minute on anything in culture kicked off by the eponymous phrase “I don’t think so honey”. Arguably, it raises sh*t-talking to an art form. Do yourself a favor and listen to the live episodes that they’ve done in the NYC in the Las Culturistas archives.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. We highly recommend to go get them here ASAP.

For a year, a “sentient” robot has been hosting a delightful show in marvelous indie, underground venue that’s only accessible via an alley.

To mark the occasion, Mikey Heller, the robot, and a very stacked line-up that includes some very fun out-of-towners and retro-inspired magic will take place right after Valentine’s Day.

Seriously, a robot does host the show and you have to go see it for yourself.
