Pick of the Day: Never Not Funny Live Podcast with Jimmy Pardo

April 23, 2020

Every week that passes in lockdown, comedy-at-large figures out live-streaming more and more. As such, more of the creme de la creme are coming around to shows on Zoom, Twitch, YouTube, Instagram Live, and more.

One of the most venerable comedy podcasts around, Never Not Funny with Jimmy Pardo, is one such show that is joining in the comedy live-streaming boom with a show set for Sat. May 2nd at 7:30PM hosted by Flappers Comedy Club. If anything, podcasts that have already normalized being on camera while recording are more than geared up for how we have to do comedy right now. Jimmy Pardo, Matt Belknap, and very special guests ought to be a hell of a good time on Zoom with their beloved podcast, chemistry, and serious hijinks.

Tickets for the live-stream are $10 and you can (and should) get them here.

Will Menaker, Matt Christman, Felix Biederman, Amber A’Lee Frost, and Virgil Texas together have created one of the most beloved series of political comedy in recent memory with their podcast Chapo Trap House. Their fiery, satirical commentary has earned them one hell of a following as well (they are probably the top earners on Patreon).

As such, you shouldn’t miss when Chapo Trap House stops into LA at Highland Park’s Lodge Room on Tues. Feb. 25th at 7PM & 10PM. Tickets are $25-$28. You can (and very much should) get tickets here and here respectively before they sell out.

Of the things to look forward to in 2020, we’re adding a monthly slot at Dynasty Typewriter for The Dollop Podcast to the list (in fact, we’d probably put it near the top). The crucial and hysterical comedy history podcast hosted by Dave Anthony and Gareth Reynolds has become such a podcast that it regularly tours around the country and the world sharing perhaps the most entertaining versions of some of the weirdest and darkest stories in history.

The live episodes are really something special and you ought to know, in LA, they’ll be getting some damn fine guests TBA.

Anyhow, this monthly Dollop at Dynasty Typewriter will be raising money for various charities FYI, making this residency even more wonderful than already is.

Their first date is Tues. Feb. 11th at 8PM and tickets are $20 right now (and $25 on the day of-though we suspect they might be sold out before then). Go get them here quick.

This is one of the more insane things you’ll see all year long as Jon Gabrus and guests do an actual power hour on stage as an annual special edition of his High and Mighty podcast done live on stage. The 60 shots of beer taken every minute on the minute provide for truly unforgettable moments that will you get through Thanksgiving (if that’s a thing you’re dreading).

Go get tickets for the High and Mighty LIVE Power Hour at UCB Sunset on Nov. 27th before they sell out here.

In LA, you’ll have two chances to do so with a recording Having Funlessness with Jen Kirkman on June 25th and then Jen performing an hour of stand-up on July 26th all at the Hollywood Improv.

Of course, the podcast follows closely to the title as Fanelli’s guests share the the low points in the career, their failures that preceded the plethora of success they currently have. Without a doubt, you’ll want to hear what Wilson and Moynihan went through to get where they are now.

Tickets are ranging from $10 (that’s for “May Be 100% Blocked Views) to $55.50. Go get your tickets here quick

On December 5th in years past, we’re sure something important that’s tangentially adjacent to a podcast about chain restaurants/late capitalism’s effects on two friends happened somewhere near Brea, CA.

This December 5th, 2018 at approximately 8PM, which is a Wednesday, Nick Wiger and Mike Mitchell will reconvene for what should be another rollicking, wild live episode of the Doughboys podcast, this time at the big Brea Improv. It’s an occasion that no one in the greater LA/OC area should miss.

Tickets are $20 (plus a 2-item minimum) and you can (and very much should) snag them here.

Few are as equipped as Wayne Federman to discuss the history of comedy, especially stand-up, as Wayne is not only meticulously studied on the topic and a current professor of stand-up at the University of Southern California, but he has been a very funny, ever-evolving comedian for many decades.

His and Andrew Steven’s podcast mini-series The History of Standup on Podglomerate thus is a handy guide through how stand-up has developed rapidly as an art form even though it’s much younger than most other art forms, especially of the live variety.

Wayne and Andrew will be doing a special live ep. of The History of Standup with a TBA special guest at Dynasty Typewriter at Hayworth Theater next Sunday, Nov. 18th at 2PM.

Fans, nerds, and even those just merely curious of stand-up comedy might want to get into this. Tickets are $15 and you can go get them here.
