Lloyd Braun’s Whalerock Creating Networks For Howard Stern and Tyler The Creator

February 19, 2015

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

Ellen Degeneres’ Ellentube seems to be only the tip of the individual-branded-content-iceberg. Whalerock Industries, which used to be BermanBraun, is looking to package a bundle of networks/channels/etc. that are driven by the entire individual personalities such as Howard Stern and Tyler The Creator.

The networks are set to be subscription based online, but there are plans to head for cable and modes of distribution as well.

We’re now curious what Stern and Tyler will do programming wise outside of the radio show and Loiter Squad respectively.

Last night’s Parks and Recreation furthered their look into the future of Pawnee and their storied Parks department with a series of ads.

Included are TV spots for such Pawnee landmarks as Wamapoke Casino and Paunch Burger as well as some for new business ventures including Ron Swanson’s Very Good Building and Development Company and Verizon Chipotle Exxon.

We can’t speak for the rest of the world, but it looks like Pawnee is doing just fine in 2017.

Having to appear on a multitude of shows to promote The Jack and Triumph Show, Triumph The Insult Comic Dog has to censor himself a little with his usual ribald burns that he’s gotten to do on Conan over the years.

However, when back on Conan, and it’s back to the old days as well as Conan making fun of Robert Smigel barely being able to handle a puppet.

Chris Gethard Wants to Really Go All Out at Fusion and Says That “The Chris Gethard Show” Will Probably Debut in May

February 19, 2015
Uncategorized

In his latest communiqué, Chris Gethard has said that we will all have to look to May for the cable network TV premiere of The Chris Gethard Show.

On top of that, he has some ideas of what he wants to do with having a budget and the backing of a network behind them.

Chris made a list that includes these things and way more we hope all happens within the ten episodes that they have ordered:

– I want to have the entire audience serve as my personal trainer.
– I want our audience to raise an animal together.
– Currently having an object buried somewhere in North America. It is a very valuable object. The show – both the televised version and all of our online output (including this) have a series of clues that can lead you to the object. Whoever gets the object will realize that it is not just monetarily valuable, but will give them a role in our show they’ve never dreamed of. I will never mention this again.
– I’m currently doing a lot of research and surveillance on a lonely teen who lives in either Pennsylvania, Ohio, or Indiana. I list all three so you and s/he won’t know it’s them. I am learning everything about him/her and plan on giving them a triumphant moment during the ten-week run of our show. They will have no idea it is happening until it is happening.
– There are a lot of terrestrial radio frequencies in remote parts of America that do not broadcast. On one of them there is currently a looped ten minute message being sent out via pirating devices. The ten minute message gives you explicit instructions on ways you can win a trip to New York City to attend our show live. It is on you to find the location and frequency of the broadcast. I can tell you that it is within a three hour drive of a city with a population of over 150,000.

If Chris pulls all of this off, this would be literal groundbreaking television.

Kid Cudi Will Take the Place of Reggie Watts as Bandleader on “Comedy Bang Bang”

While there are still a few missing pieces in the thorough shifting of players around the late night world, there is now one less to try to figure out.

Reggie Watts upcoming departure as bandleader at Comedy Bang! Bang! on IFC for being the bandleader on The Late Late Show with James Corden really made us rack our brains as to who would fill Reggie’s shoes, sweaters, and hair. However, we no longer need to wonder since recording artist Kid Cudi has been announced as Reggie’s replacement starting July 10th.

If you’re curious what that might be like, here’s Kid Cudi making music with Reggie.

R.I.P. Harris Wittels, 1984-2015

(via TMZ)

Just a few hours ago, law enforcement officials pronounced comedian, writer, and actor Harris Wittels deceased. Early reports point to a drug overdose as the cause of death.

Harris was prolific in his comedy with anything from Humblebrag, Parks and Recreation, The Sarah Silverman Program, Comedy Bang! Bang!, Eastbound and Down, the band Don’t Stop or We’ll Die (who was scheduled to play at the end of this month at UCB Sunset), and so much more all have his name proudly attached to them.

His passing is incredibly sudden as Wittels performed last night at The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail as well as many of the shows that he wrote for still being active and now is no longer with us.

May he rest in peace and may all of us remember him and his extensive comedic works.

Adam Scott and Joe Mande Developing Denver Dispensary Comedy For NBC

With Parks and Recreation coming to a close and the sale of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt to Netflix, the path that comedy at NBC will take is largely unclear.

It is encouraging to hear of this latest addition of a comedy from the minds of Adam Scott and Joe Mande about a marijuana dispensary located in Denver, CO where marijuana is legal for recreational use.

If picked up to a pilot, then series this would definitely be a big step in network comedy to have a sitcom that focuses on selling weed. In years past, stuff like that would only on Showtime.

“Welcome To Me” With Kristen Wiig Has a New Trailer Just as Delightful as The Last One

kristen wiig, trailer, welcome to me

Over a month ago, a wonderful trailer was briefly released for “Welcome To Me” starring Kristen Wiig as an off-kilter lottery winner that starts her own talk show with her winnings. Then, it disappeared.

Almost a month later, there is a new trailer that you should watch just as obsessively as you did the last one. There’s probably never been a movie that’s more perfect for Wiig and, we’ll say it again, Kristen should probably have her own show like the fictionalized one in this movie.

OK, that’ s enough from us. Watch the trailer for Welcome To Me here.

The Emmys Categories To Be Redefined Including Comedies To Now Be “Half-Hours”

February 21, 2015
Uncategorized
emmys, rule changes, television academy

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

In lieu of television really being as expansive and growing as it ever has been, The Television Academy has decided to simplify distinctions with The Emmys with some rule changes.

The most notable one is having TV series that submit as a comedy have episodes with a duration of 30 minutes or less. That means that Better Call Saul, Orange Is The New Black, etc. will be in the dramatic categories rather than comedy. The Television Academy is also making a distinction between outstanding talk variety and outstanding sketch variety.

Still, that doesn’t clear up all their issues between which shows should or shouldn’t be going up against each other or whether shows get to pick to be considered for drama or comedy.

In light of this rule change, we wouldn’t be surprised at all if someone ends up making a great hourlong comedy series or the comedy series from online streaming services start casually running to 40 minutes and longer, even if it’s just to spite the new rule. Also, Comedy Bang! Bang!, The Eric Andre Show, and The Chris Gethard Show (remember that’s going to be on TV in a few months) really blur the lines between a sketch show and a talk show.

Would they make a new set of categories for these? Perhaps The Television Academy would given the multitude of Emmy categories that already exist.

How these new rules will affect the Emmys ultimately has yet to be seen, but at least we get to see some great TV in the meantime.

How does Klown presented by Sacha Baron Cohen or Ghostbusters presented by Paul Scheer sound? Something that’s both great and you would’ve never imagined happening you say?

Well, luckily, The 4th Annual Wayne Federman International Film Festival, the festival that brings comedians and their favorite films together at Cinefamily, has both of the aforementioned events as well as MacGruber star Will Forte presenting a screening of none other than MacGruber.

Every year Federman gets together a great handful of these screenings, but this year’s line-up seems primed to be especially great.

The 4th WFIFF runs from Thurs. Mar. 5th-Sun. Mar. 7th at Cinefamily and you can and should get tickets now.
