Watch The Future of CBS’ Late Night Line-Up, Stephen Colbert and James Corden, Sing a Christmas Carol Together

December 10, 2014
Uncategorized
cbs, colbert report, comedy central, craig ferguson, stephen colbert, the late late show, the late show

As you’ve probably have already read plenty of times over, probably plenty right here at The Comedy Bureau, Stephen Colbert and James Corden will be the duo that take over The Late Show and The Late Late Show, respectively, at CBS next year.

When they take the reins to CBS’ late night line-up, they will be facing off against Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, and Carson Daly at NBC, Jimmy Kimmel at ABC, and Jon Stewart, Larry Wilmore, and Chris Hardwick at Comedy Central.

It’s a crowded field to be sure, but know that very few, if any, can harmonize like Colbert and Corden. Watch them sing a Christmas tune as well as Colbert giving some precautionary measures to Corden about what he’s getting into.

Adult Swim and TruTV Renew Their Freshman Series

(via The Hollywood Reporter/Variety)

New comedy series Friends of the People, Black Jesus, Mike Tyson Mysteries, and Mr. Pickles were all just renewed for a second season by their respective networks, TruTV and Adult Swim.

The sketch show on the rebranded TruTV, a show about the return of Jesus as a black man, a Scooby Doo style animated cartoon with Mike Tyson as the lead, and the adventures of a satanic dog have have all made it to a second round.

We’re pretty sure none of these shows would get picked up at one of the big broadcast networks, but unlike most of network sitcoms, these shows have, at the very least, either their bosses behind them or have done well enough to get another episode order.

In any case, televised comedy continues to thrive on cable.

Watch Ben Schwartz’s Last Appearance on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

Since Craig Ferguson is winding down his run at The Late Late Show, his last round of guests are all his favorite folks to chat and goof around with.

Any time Ferguson and Ben Schwartz are seated next to each other, they’re having the most fun from wire-to-wire without really getting to any sort of pre-interview questions, though that is Ferguson’s sort of interview style.

Schwartz made his last stop at The Late Late Show last night and, per usual, it was sublimely silly. Watch it starting at 29:57 here or at CBS.com.

This might as well be Stephen Colbert week (or even fortnight, so we can keep on celebrating him right up until the very end of The Colbert Report).

Today, you should check out Stephen getting to dress up as Bilbo, Legolas, and Gandalf from the realm of Middle Earth, which, as many of you might know, is probably a dream come true for him, and making the cover of Entertainment Weekly.

The Hobbits have nothing on how silly Colbert gets while dressed up as a dweller of Middle Earth. Watch behind the scenes of the photo shoot here.

Earlier this week, Conan O’Brien almost instantly sold out of his wood emojis crafted by Nick Offerman that were originally done as a bit on Conan.

So, he decided to sell 500 more with all the proceeds going to the Children’s Defense Fund Action Council. That also sold out in mere minutes.

Thus, Conan has decided to sell as many as he can via Tilt.com still at $100 a pop. Orders will be taken over the next 9 days and, as of this post being written, 1393 wooden emojis have been ordered.

Daniel Van Kirk has never been coy about his love of Chili’s. He mentions it all the time on The Sklar Brothers’ Sklarbro Country to the point where listeners of the podcast were urged and followed through with a Twitter campaign to get Van Kirk to be the new spokesperson for Chili’s.

Just check out the thousands of tweets for the hashtag #DVK4Chilis to see what we’re talking about.

So now, Daniel Van Kirk has indeed been made into a Chili’s spokesperson and will be even taking over their Twitter account tomorrow Dec. 12th at 1PM PST.

From the guy who does a myriad of amazing characters on so many of your favorite podcasts, the best impression of Mark Wahlberg and web series DVK, perhaps Old Navy has a new rival for funniest spokesperson.

As we said earlier today, we’re in the thick of awards seasons with nominations rolling in from all sides. The SAG Awards nominees were announced this week and just this morning, the announcement for the nominees of The 2015 Golden Globes was made.

Looking over the HFPA’s list of their favorites this year, It seems as if The Grand Budapest Hotel was straddling a lot of awards deadlines getting nominated in several awards last year and still gaining a lot of attention this year with four Golden Globe nominations. Birdman continues to get its due as comedy’s frontrunner for awards this season with 7 nominations and Transparent is starting its inevitable run for getting honors on the TV side with two.

December 12, 2014

In another case where broadcast networks let a huge comedy star and their show go to cable, Jim Gaffigan got a series order for The Jim Gaffigan Show at TV Land and Comedy Central a few months ago.

Given the nature of how unstable TV is these days, you can never be too sure (like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt that was already ordered as a series by NBC then sold to Netflix) if anything is going to make it on air until it actually makes it on air.

However, Gaffigan tweeting about his show, complete with a title card where he’s attempting to deal with his kids, happening next year both at TV Land and Comedy Central is most reassuring.

The Late Late Show with James Corden Has Premiere Date Moved and Gets Reggie Watts to Leave Comedy Bang! Bang! To Be Their Bandleader

December 12, 2014
Uncategorized

(via Deadline/@scottaukerman)

Originally, James Corden was supposed to take over The Late Late Show from Craig Ferguson on Mar. 9th, but CBS has opted to move the start date two weeks back to Mar. 23rd.

We’re not sure the exact reasoning behind that, but, perhaps, it might have something to do with getting the one and only Reggie Watts, who is the current bandleader on Comedy Bang! Bang! at IFC, to come over to pair up with Corden.

At first, we thought that he might split his time between the two shows like Fred Armisen does at Late Night with Seth Meyers, but Comedy Bang! Bang! host Scott Aukerman confirmed in a series of tweets that Watts will be leaving as his bandleader in the second half of 2015.

Reggie is sticking around thru the first half of 2015, during which he have planned a very fitting goodbye for him.

— Scott Aukerman (@ScottAukerman)

December 12, 2014

Aukerman also added that we all should be listening for shouting in the streets in regards to who the exciting new bandleader for Comedy Bang! Bang! will be soon.

Who will be the new bandleader? I can’t say yet but it’s very exciting. Please listen for newsies shouting on street corners in early 2015.

— Scott Aukerman (@ScottAukerman)

December 12, 2014

On top of all of that, Corden has gotten a team of veteran producers who have run the gamut in late night including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Show with David Letterman, Last Call with Carson Daly, Lopez Tonight, and more. One of these producers, Mike Gibbons, has even been noted to be the co-creator of Tosh.0.

All of this makes for a much more intriguing beginning to Corden’s start at 12:35AM here in America.

However, when it comes to being a comedian, even one of the most successful ones around, it’s kind of a different story. Just check out Chris Rock and David Letterman dish about how their kids are less than impressed by their respective comedic works.

So, not only do we have to look forward towards a release, perhaps, sometime next year, but, the cast for Still Punching The Clown is pretty damn great. J.K. Simmons, who you probably saw get sociopathic in Whiplash, Sarah Silverman, Jim Jefferies, Tig Notaro, Doug Stanhope, Mike Judge, Drunk History’s Derek Waters, Nikki Glaser, and more are all being featured in the film.

Hopefully, the news of a release date and the actual release date itself will come soon.

(via Deadline)

A couple of TV seasons ago, it was announced that Donald Glover was developing a music industry centric comedy series at FX.

Nothing was heard about the project for awhile, but, luckily, FX has ordered a pilot of Glover’s “Atlanta” this week. It’ll focus on the rap scene in Atlanta, GA and the crazed life that goes with it.

If this goes to series, it’ll be fun to compare Atlanta and Empire on Fox.
