Paramount and Warner Bros. Up Their Digital Content with New Web Series “Beef” and “RejecTED”

October 31, 2014
Uncategorized
beef, christopher meloni, paramount, warner bros

The line between watching a web series online and watching your favorite TV show online is continuing to blur. Of course, you probably knew that having binged watched any number of hit TV series online as well as watch a run of a successful web series like This Is Not Happening with Ari Shaffir.

Knowing this, Warner Bros. has launched into the realm of content online with a division that will be called Blue Ribbon Content (H/T The Hollywood Reporter) that will feature such things like a series from the creators of Mike Tyson Mysteries centered on bad TED Talks. It’s appropriately called RejecTED.

Paramount is continuing their path of great, bizarre parody web parodies like Burning Love with Beef featuring Christopher Meloni as a sort-of-daytime-TV-judge that hears people’s “beefs” in the butcher shop that he owns. If you think it might be as awesome as it sounds, the trailer will not disappoint (cast and guest stars include Michael Ian Black, James Pumphrey, Joe Lo Truglio, Angela Trimbur, Betsy Sodaro, Beck Bennett, Michael Cera, FYI). Beef is set for a release in just over a week on Nov. 11th.

So, basically we’re saying get ready for all of this.

Jon Stewart Q&A For Premiere of “Rosewater” With Stephen Colbert Will Be Broadcast Into Theaters

October 31, 2014
Uncategorized

Jon Stewart’s directorial debut Rosewater would be remiss without some sort of event attached to the movie’s premiere.

Luck would have that on Nov. 13th at 7:30PM EST (and tape delay for 7:30PM MT/CT/PST), Stewart will be chatting with his satirical news program cohort Stephen Colbert and it will be broadcast into theaters via Fathom Events.

While Rosewater isn’t at all a comedy, we’re sure that Stewart and Colbert in conversation will be a whole lot of fun, perhaps reminiscent of John Mulaney recently interviewing Dan Mintz.

2015 Might Be The Last Time Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Host the Golden Globes

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

This January, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will have taken the stage at The Golden Globes as the evening’s host for the third time. According to Poehler in a recent interview on The Today Show, she’s leaning towards the idea of it be the duo’s last go around for the gig as she’s worried that it might be going “downhill” if she continues.

The two have been the best hosts of an awards show in quite some time and it would be sad for them to stop. Still, just because she and Tina won’t host The Golden Globes again, doesn’t mean they couldn’t host any number of other awards shows including The Oscars, Emmys, MTV Movie Awards, etc. etc.

Let’s hope that happens.

Watch Brian Regan on Letterman and Chris Rock’s “Top Five”

It’s officially the first day of November as well as the day after Halloween as well as Saturday morning and we think it’s a pretty great way to start all of that with Brian Regan’s appearance on Letterman from last night.

There’s a stand-up set as well as his bit part in Chris Rock’s upcoming movie Top Five.

(Just so you know, watching Brian Regan is good start to pretty much any day.)

Viacom has opted to increase their offerings with Hulu and in doing so has given them streaming rights for The Ren & Stimpy Show, Hey Arnold!, Key & Peele, Drunk History, Ridiculousness, Tosh.0, Kroll Show and Inside Amy Schumer.

Hopefully this month, episodes will start popping up on Hulu and you can binge watch away.

Chris Rock Is Hosting SNL Tonight

As of late, the best episodes of Saturday Night Live seem to come around when they have a host that has such a strong voice comedically and in many different disciplines (i.e. writing, stand-up, acting, directing). Both times Louis C.K. has hosted, for example, have been pretty great.

We think that Chris Rock might have a similar result having acted on Broadway, produced TV shows, and made his own highly anticipated movies like Top Five in returning to the SNL stage tonight as the host, so you should check it out at 11:30PM on NBC.

Also, it’s another rare chance to get to watch Prince perform live.

Eugene Mirman and H. Jon Benjamin and Chet Clem Want to Sell You Artisanal Mystery Sacks Through Their Flotsam General Store

Adjectives such as artisanal, handmade, small batch, and more are words that many consumers these days look for on their products, no matter what they are.

With that in mind, comedy folks Eugene Mirman and H. Jon Benjamin and Chet Clem have created a line of artisanal, handmade, small batch mystery sacks that promise to contain “…hand-chosen items that are hand-hewn by machines in America…” to be sold at the Flotsam General Store.

One can only imagine what you would get in a mystery sack of varying sizes (depending on how much money you want shell out for this) from someone like Mirman who does Brooklyn themed paintings. We’re absolutely sure this will go nicely with any Dumb Starbucks merchandise that you could possibly have.

For our money, the best selling point of Flotsam is their return/exchange policy, which reads, “Ha, ha,ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, haha, ha”

“Last Week Tonight” Knows What Home Depot Should Be Advertising

Lowe’s is employing robots to help customers find their way through their hardware and home supplies store. It’s an added perk for sure when looking for the right type of bolts and screws, but the team at Last Week Tonight with John Oliver thinks that customer service at such places is much more dependent on the human element than simple knowledge of tools, gardening, etc.

So, with the help of Nick Offerman, H. Jon Benjamin, and Sarah Baker, Last Week Tonight made up this ad for Home Depot that shows that their sales representatives are best put to use when dealing with couples whose relationship is going off the rails.

Tom Hanks To Write a Book of Short Stories

It would be hard to imagine that a collection of short stories from the mind of the one ever-gregarious Tom Hanks wouldn’t have a bit of humor of in it, if not a whole row of funny stories.

Not that there is any evidence that he’d write about such experiences as taking a picture with a fan who pretended to be passed out at a diner or perhaps a first person account from the point-of-view of Wilson, but that wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility, considering how obsessed with the magic of typing on vintage typewriters.

He is setting to write an entire book of short stories soon and we’ll see exactly what Hanks has coming through that typewriter ribbon.

They now wants to continue in that direction with their new studio, but they need funding for that to work in a away where they can stay completely 100% owned and operated independently by comedians.

So, they’re looking to raise $10,000 by Nov. 21st and we sincerely hope you help them push forward with all the awesome things they’re doing on helping comedians make and release their own comedy (what a novel idea, right?)

Paul Scheer already did a bang up job reenacting The Arsenio Hall Show with the ArScheerio Paul Show, so it would make complete sense that he would do reenact another 90s show where things were live and could go awry.

From this tweet/picture above, it looks like that MTV’s TRL, or Total Request Live, is going to get the same treatment as SRL from Scheer, JASH, and director Payman Benz.

Hopefully, if this is all of what they’re up to, they will hopefully reenact that one time Mariah Carey crashed the studio live on air, unannounced with a popsicle cart.

Started with the help of Earwolf and Matt Gourley, Wolfpop will feature podcasts focused on comedy and pop culture such as DENZEL WASHINGTON IS THE GREATEST ACTOR OF ALL TIME PERIOD with W. Kamau Bell and Kevin Avery or Reading Outloud with Nate Corddry or Cry Babies with Sarah Thyre and Susan Orlean or The Stallone Podcast with Paul Scheer and Sly Stallone and so much more.
