ABC Having Jermaine Fowler Develop a Semi-Autobiographical Comedy

September 3, 2014

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

In this latest round of networks getting ready for pilot season, ABC has picked up a great project in having the very funny Jermaine Fowler develop a family comedy based on his life, which much of his stand-up is based on.

More specifically, the series would follow a college drop out that moves in with his grandmother and a former DC cop. With this premise in mind, we think this could work or as a multi-cam or single camera sitcom. Hopefully, it will get a pilot order and we’ll get to see which one it will end up being.

After this, we do hope to see more of Gelman all around the late night talk show circuit.

Tim Gilbert, hailing from Toronto, Canada, has just put out a great comedy album this week and you can have and listen to it over and over for whatever price you choose.

It’s called Please Help Me I Am Very Sick and is a fun, dark romp through Gilbert’s life and we suggest you get your copy and enjoy.

As far as whether you have to use currency in paying what you want (i.e. barter system?), we’re not sure, but the important this is that you get and listen to Gilbert’s album.

Jen Kirkman Returns to Drunk History Once More to Tell the Story of Edith Wilson

There was a period during President Woodrow Wilson’s administration where he fell so ill that his wife, Edith Wilson, effectively took over much of his day-to-day responsibilities, even when it required dealing with Congress.

Drunk History enlisted one of its best in Jen Kirkman to tell the story and Jen does not disappoint.

Amy Poehler will be doing something atypical of audiobooks, but probably should be done more often: reading live.

Her upcoming book Yes Please set for release on Oct. 28th is currently on pre-order and she is, tonight, reading a chapter in front of a live audience at the UCB Theatre here in LA, which sure is to be a good time for both the audience and the listener later. Maybe future audiobooks might be done entirely in multiple sessions in front of live crowds?

For now, the reservations for Poehler’s live reading are full, but there is a wait list right now.

By now, you’ve undoubtedly heard of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and seen a video of someone, probably someone famous, pour a bucket of ice over their head in lieu of donating money to fight ALS.  In fact, the videos and the challenge are so pervasive that it would seem that people are just challenging their friends to pour ice on their head rather than pay for something as opposed to raising awareness about Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

So, Michael Busch, James Pumphrey, Hari Leigh, Brandon Johnson, Ron Lynch, Rosie Shea have made this video to raise awareness on what might happen if we all just keep making Ice Bucket Challenge videos.

ListenFirst’s Digital Audience Rating to Gauge That Online Buzz That Shows Like Community, Parks & Recreation, Key & Peele

September 4, 2014
Uncategorized
digital audience rating, listenfirst, variety

(via Variety)

As the way we consume TV has changed more in the last few years than it has in the past few decades, ListenFirst Media has launched a ratings system that attempts to measure the online viewing/engagement of any and all entertainment online.

We all know that shows like Community, Key & Peele, Parks and Recreation, Conan, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Arrested Development, The Tonight Show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver all fare quite well online no matter what their TV ratings are. So, a Digital Audience Rating combs through Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, YouTube, Wikipedia, and Google+ to see what people are watching the most online.

For instance, the viral Friends reunion/fan fiction bit on Kimmel pushed Jimmy Kimmel Live to the top.

While Nielsen has tried to do a version of this, we hope this DAR becomes an accurate, valuable metric for content online, where, more and more every day, people watch anything and everything.

R.I.P. Joan Rivers, 1933-2014

Only a few hours ago, Joan Rivers, after being hospitalized and put into a medically induced coma, has passed away at the age of 81. She leaves a unbelievably long whirlwind of a career in comedy where Joan fiercely fought and clawed for everything she’s gotten on her terms as you can clearly see in the documentary Piece of Work.

While people are posting clips of her stand up, interviews, etc. today in remembrance, please know, no matter how ribald, risqué, controversial, or “blue” Joan has gotten, she has always went for the joke regardless of how far she had to take it and made herself a legend for that.

If you’ve ever seen Julian’s stand-up, you know that this project has a lot of potential.  Above all of this, we hope that there will be some reference or mention of McCullough’s collection of the Babysitters Club book series.
