Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is bringing Amazon her latest series which will follow one woman who falls into the world of stand-up during NYC’s burgeoning comedy scene in the late 50s/60s.

Called The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, it might be NYC (and possibly more upbeat) counterpart to Showtime’s I’m Dying Up Here.

See for yourself in the trailer.

Episodes start streaming on Amazon Prime on Wednesday, November 29th.

Trailer for Patton Oswalt’s Latest Special “Annihilation” Only Slightly Prepares You For What’s Coming

Next Tuesday, October 17th, Patton Oswalt: Annihilation, Patton’s latest hour stand-up special, will begin streaming on Netflix.

From this trailer, everything seems in order for a new hour from Patton with some clever commentary on politics and white genocide.

However, as was hinted at earlier this year, Annihilation does indeed include his most personal material yet. He focused a significant portion of this hour on the untimely passing of his wife, Michelle McNamara, in a heartbreaking, beautiful, visceral, funny way that only Patton Oswalt could make happen.

You don’t see that in this trailer, but know that it’ll be one of the most affecting, unforgettable parts of the special when you see it next week.

Sarah Silverman Gets Subversive About Being a Hollywood Elite in Her Musical Number for “I Love You, America”

I love you america, musical, raj desai, sarah silverman

Sarah Silverman takes the form of a traditional song about diversity and inclusivity and gets a little meta in this music video as well as questions her privilege and the label of “Hollywood elite”.

From the looks of it, I Love You, America will be interesting mix of Silverman’s goofy, yet adult sense of humor, a brash streak of satire, and a certain vulnerability that Sarah has opened up over the last few years.

I Love You, America kicks off on Hulu on October 12th and will have new episodes every Thursday.

As you can see in the trailer, there’s no shortage of John C. McGinley saying something “badass” while fighting witches, demons, etc.

That’s exactly what Jay Larson’s Burned Material will be when it kicks off at the end of the month at Nerdmelt with fantastic comedians Rory Scovel, Fahim Anwar, Brent Morin.

The Foundation distributes a series of monthly $1,000 grants to projects and their creators. We’ve said many times in many ways that Dana Gould is kind of a gold standard when it comes to craftsmanship in stand-up comedy.

The precision that comes with both Gould’s writing and performing are top notch in all aspects, making it all seem kind of effortless. Also, Dana is a master of navigating dark subject material without it seeming exploitative or done for pure shock value.

His latest record Mr. Funny Man is another hour exemplifying all of the above, just as Dana has been doing for years and years and years.

With all of that said, we urge you to get Mr. Funny Man that was just released today.

RIP Ralphie May, 1972-2017

Earlier today, Ralphie May succumbed to cardiac arrest after dealing with a rough bout of pneumonia during his Las Vegas residency.

May was one of the first success stories to come from Last Comic Standing having been on the very first season of the stand-up competition reality show.

Since then, Ralphie put out six specials, a sizable body of work, and worked the road plenty.

Here’s a story that Ralphie May told on This Is Not Happening about going to a gay wedding and having a damn good time (and appreciating how he has changed his stance on gay people from when he was younger).

WellRED Comedy’s Trae Crowder Sells ABC a Liberal Redneck Comedy

ABC has picked up on Trae Crowder and WellRED Comedy’s growing popularity as “liberal redneck comedians”. Crowder, Drew Morgan, and Corey Ryan Forrester have indeed carved out that niche quite well with a successful nationwide tour, podcast, and more.

What’s also intriguing about here is that John Enborn, the creator of Party Down, is co-writing the project. The premise of moving back to Tennessee for a job and juggling familial responsibilities and Southern heritage might be straight forward enough, but we are curious how Trae and Enborn might add their personal angle to a traditional sitcom formula.

The Comedy Bureau, an LA comedy institution that has served the art form of comedy and Los Angeles since 2010, has handpicked “secret” recordings of their “comedians of interest” and release them to the public on an album through the venerable AST Records. More specifically, these 6 acts contained within this record are comedians that TCB believes have not gotten nearly enough of the attention they deserve. They are hysterical, original, innovative, and should be watched be very close by all. Knowing this, commit their names to memory: Anna Seregina, James Austin Johnson, Ahmed Bharoocha, Candice Thompson, The Walsh Brothers, and Eric Dadourian.

-Jake Kroeger, Director of The Comedy Bureau

You can (and really, really should) get Comedians of Interest Vol. 1. It comes out on Friday, October 20th, but is available for pre-order now here.

‘Corpse Tub’ Appears to Be a Dark Comedy About a Cult That You Will Be Obsessing Over

On one level, you have Kate Micucci and Sam Huntington dealing with the fact that the tub in their suspiciously cheap apartment is a key component in a ritual of suicidal cult with a leader played by Taika Waititi.

On another level, you have Dan Harmon actually starring as a cop trying desperately to sell his life story in a script.

On yet another level, the rest of the cast is rounded off by such wondrous comedy folks as Maria Bamford, Mark McKinney, Rhea Seehorn, Brian Posehn, Dana Gould, Josh Brener, J Lee, Brian Girard, Lilan Bowden, Jon Dore, Mindy Sterling, Michael St. Michaels, Craig Cackowski, Britney Young, Ryan Simpkins and Ron Lynch.

We try to stop ourselves from getting too preemptively excited about a film that has yet to be made, but this does sound pretty magical in a darkly funny way, maybe akin to The Lobster. So, suffice it to say that our hopes are indeed up for this.

Yes, The Comedy Bureau will have officially served the LA comedy scene for 7 years at the end of this month. That’s 56 years in dog years and (probably 70 in “bureau years”?)

This time, we actually took enough of a break to remind ourselves that we should put on a show (and actually try to make some money doing so).

As you can see from this scrawled upon napkin straight from the very desk of TCB itself, it ought to be a really good time. Also, there will be a raffle that includes fancy enamel pins, our album (more on that later), etc.

You can get tickets now for $10 or $15 cash at door. Get tickets, more details (that are more legible) here.
