So, Sacha Baron Cohen Might Have a New Show Coming Soon

So, Sacha Baron Cohen Might Have a New Show Coming Soon

A mysterious tease and reports of one of the biggest provocateur satirists around shopping a possible new show (currently in talks at Showtime) are very intriguing.

However, there are almost no details outside of that and whether Cohen will be diving deep into a ridiculous character like he’s done in the past or trying his hand at being himself and pointing a mirror back at society from a new angle.

In any case, with the likes of Nathan Fielder around in addition to Baron Cohen’s reputation of Borat, Ali G, and Bruno being pretty well established at this point, he’ll have to up his game if he’s going to pull another large scale prank performance.

Superego, One of The Funniest Podcasts Around, Will Return for 6 Episodes

Together, Matt Gourley, Jeremy Carter, Mark McConville, and Paul F. Tompkins form Superego, one of our all time favorite podcasts. It’s as ridiculous as it is brilliant and Superego one-up each other in how absurd they can be in absurdist situations, but doing so with precision.

Seriously, go binge listen to and enjoy past episodes here.

According to this announcement, there will be six new episodes, 4 done in studio and 2 done live, later this year thanks to Earwolf and Stitcher Premium.

Even though the date isn’t announced, it should be something to mark somewhere on your calendar because we think it’s that noteworthy.

Undoubtedly, Kathryn Burns is often the intersection of dance and comedy as she has won an Emmy for her work as the choreographer on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (in addition to creating dance numbers for the likes of Key & Peele, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, and more).

So, to mark her reaching working on a 100 episodes of TV, Kat is putting on a comedy dance extravaganza at UCB Sunset that you need to attend.

Oh yeah, we should mention that Rachel Bloom, Garfunkel & Oates, and Matthew Patrick Davis will be there.

Tickets are $5 and are going fast. Buy them quick here.

“Under The Tree” Serves Up a Great Dark Comedy, Icelandic Style (Extra Dark, That Is)

We got a sense from the Icelandic History episode of The Dollop that folks from Iceland have a deliciously bleak sense of humor akin to The Coen Brothers.

Iceland’s latest comedy export, the film Under The Tree, relishes in this sort of dark comedy that’s so dark and dry, it’s hilarious how dark, dry, and schadenfreude-laden it is. A very muted color palate only amplifies the effect.

A neighborly dispute over trimming a tree goes horribly, horribly (and we really want to stress the word “horribly” here) awry. Yet, the leads are all kind of despicable in their own way making it fun, albeit in a somewhat sinister way, to watch them destroy each other (in the same fashion you root for no one to win in an episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia).

Under The Tree, directed by Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson and co-written by Hafsteinn and Huldar Breiðfjörð, opens in limited release this Friday, July 6th and, as such, will be playing in LA. Get your tickets here.

The Super Serious Show will be marking their 8 year milestone this month and that alone could be a reason to go. However, you won’t to get to a line-up quite specifically like this one very often (even though LA is veritable spoil of comedy riches on a nightly basis).

So, we highly urge you to get your tickets ($7 in advance and $10 dollars cash at door) as soon as you can for this momentous occasion.

Netflix’s 1st Batch of 15 Minute Stand-Up Specials, The Comedy Lineup, Is Definitely Binge Worthy

If one of Netflix’s main goals in producing original content is to make things that you can’t help but watch more of, then they succeeded yet again with their first round of 15 minute stand-up specials with The Comedy Lineup.

Specials from Michelle Buteau, Ian Karmel, Taylor Tomlinson, Phil Wang, Sam Jay, Sabrina Jalees, Jak Knight, and Tim Dillon all began streaming this week and are offer a delicious morsel of stand-up from a well curated line-up (that’s pretty intersectionally represented in so many different ways). It’s more to enjoy than an average stand-up set on television that isn’t a special and, as is Netflix’s style, done looser to allow the comics to be who they really are. Once more, Netflix is blazing a trail in the stand-up arena and it’s hard to imagine them slowing down any time soon.

In fact, The Comedy Lineup is so enjoyable that you’ll forgive how generically bland the name of the whole series sounds.

So, binge away through two hours worth of stand-up this 4th of July (and the rest of the week that you’re probably treating kind of like a holiday) as The Comedy Lineup is now streaming at Netflix.

The Feels Is Now Streaming on Netflix

The Feels was unquestionably one of our favorite movies of the year (and probably one that you didn’t get much of a chance to see in theaters).

You can read why we felt that way here. In short, it’s wonderfully hopeful romantic comedy set in a future that we could hopefully get to.

Thankfully, it’s now on Netflix for your streaming convenience and definitely should be part of your binge watching line-up this 4th of July.

Really, you should be taking any opportunity to catch Mike O’Brien, but this upcoming show this Sunday ought to be pretty special. The line-up includes the current host of MST3K, Esposito who just released a great special Rape Jokes, and a comedic performance artist extraordinaire whose viral videos you’ve probably have seen many times over.

Really, we have a feeling this will be worth finding parking on the Sunset Strip.

HBO Orders Spanish-Language Comedy ‘Los Espookys’ Written by Fred Armisen, Julio Torres, and Ana Fabrega to Series

Well, this is a much welcome surprise to find its way to HBO.

In case you didn’t know, Julio Torres and Ana Fabrega have been been off-beat English language comedy gems for quite some time and we can only imagine what will come with a Spanish language comedy that they’re writing with Armisen. They’ll also been co-starring in Los Espookys with Fred as well as Bernardo Velasco and Cassandra Ciangherotti.

From the sounds of it, Los Espookys sounds kind of like Atlanta on FX, but done in Mexico City and focuses in on trying to make it in the horror genre rather than rap. That’s pretty much all we need to hear to wait with bated breath for the first teaser/trailer.

Next on the Docket for Danny McBride, Jody Hill, and David Gordon Green at HBO Is a Pilot for Satirical Family Ministry Comedy “Righteous Gemstones”

Next on the Docket for Danny McBride, Jody Hill, and David Gordon Green at HBO Is a Pilot for Satirical Family Ministry Comedy “Righteous Gemstones”

Together, McBride, Hill, and Gordon Green have brought you and, more importantly, HBO the likes of Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals.

With such a track record one has to wonder what and when the wickedly satirical trio will do next at the premium cable network. Turns out that they just  got a pilot order for a series centered around a popular, but corrupt family ministry with John Goodman playing the patriarch.

While only based on the notion that is entirely something that we’d binge watch, we do think this is already good for greenlight at HBO.

HBO’s animated series Animals will be returning for its 3rd season and it sure looks like, according to this teaser, the animals are even less domesticated than you might have seen in previous seasons. Even though they’re rats, cats, horses, lizards, etc., it still seems pretty with the zeitgeist.

Also, you might enjoy knowing that the voices of Aisha Tyler, Cheri Oteri, Edie Falco, Demi Moore, Tracy Morgan, John Leguizamo will be taking part in this new season.

Season 3 of Animals premieres Friday, August 3 at 11:30PM on HBO.

YouTube Orders Jordan Peele Sci-Fi Anthology ‘Weird City’ to Series

“Co-written by Peele and Sanders, Weird City is an anthology set in the not-too-distant future metropolis of Weird. Each episode is an exploration of issues that pertains to present day life, stories that could only be told now through the prism of sci-fi and comedy.”

Anyone feel like Jordan Peele will be getting to do his own version of Black Mirror with this show? Whatever Weird City ends up being, plenty of folks will undoubtedly be watching.

In fact, this is quite the nice get for YouTube, considering what sort of big talent find themselves at Netflix these days. Come to think of it, this might be the first YouTube Premium series that has peaked our interests in quite some time.

This trailer certainly didn’t disappoint.

Thus, let’s all look forward to the premiere of Bobcat Goldthwait’s Misfits & Monsters on Wednesday, July 11th on TruTV.
