Louis C.K. Nixing Jimmy Fallon’s Chances on “The Dana Carvey Show”, Performing Next to De Blasio With Poop In His Pants, and Coming Up in NYC Comedy

April 8, 2015
Uncategorized

Louie is back Thurs. night, which brings another added treat of C.K. doing great rounds at late night and a bunch of fascinating, unfiltered interviews.

On The Tonight Show, Louis C.K. went one unbelievable story right after the other of being the head writer on the short lived Dana Carvey Show and making sure Jimmy Fallon, who apparently is hearing the story for the first time live on TV, didn’t get on the show, then detailing how had to go on stage with poop in his pants at a black tie event, stand alongside Mayor Bill De Blasio.

C.K. also reminisced about the harder, struggle-ridden days of doing stand-up in New York City both on The Tonight Show and in an in-depth interview with The Hollywood Reporter and how appreciative of it he is now.

Also, we’re pretty sure you can see a picture from Louis’ story about standing next to De Blasio with poop in his pants in the THR interview.

Here’s The Trailer For Sundance Hit “Me and Earl and The Dying Girl”

A potential record deal was going to be made at The Sundance Film Festival this year for Me and Earl and The Dying Girl as Fox Searchlight and Indian Paintbrush amongst others were in a bidding war for the movie.

For those of us not in attendance to Sundance, here’s our first look at was causing said bidding war.

Somewhere between 50/50 and the “sweded” movies of Be Kind Rewind is seemingly where Me and Earl and The Dying Girl lies according to this trailer. Also, it has Nick Offerman strangely holding cats.

That could be a winning a combo and we shall see if that’s so on it’s premiere on Jun. 12th.

Fox Renews “Last Man on Earth” For Season 2

Coupled with Empire, Fox is doing quite well for themselves right now.

The announcement just came through that Last Man on Earth is now getting a second season at Fox, which we’re not only excited for, but are now curious what that means for this first season and how they’ll be able to play with setting up the next season arc.

Maybe, Will Forte will answer that promotional phone again?

DVDs of “The Interview” Have Indeed Been Dropped Into North Korea via Balloons

April 8, 2015
Uncategorized
balloons, north korea, the interview

(via The Guardian)

The plan hatched just after The Interview finally hit theaters has been carried out.

Lee Min-bok who defected from North Korea and now has become an activist against the regime used helium balloons to release thousands of copies of The Interview on DVD and pamphlets. Of course, this lead to North Korean forces attempting to shoot down some of the balloons.

We’re pretty sure no other comedy film in history can or potentially will ever be able to claim that copies of the film were distributed via balloon as a tactic in a “cold war” of sorts.

Hopefully, DVD players aren’t being confiscated in Pyongyang right now.

Justin Willman Does Magic With Doug Benson For Some Folks Hanging at a Pot Dispensary

When everything’s already feeling pretty amazing when you’re high, any sort of magic will feel legitimately otherworldly.

Doug Benson took Justin Willman to a pot dispensary where it’s a little easier for people to believe in magic (and subsequently easier to pull off a trick) for last night’s Sleight of Mouth special.

How easy is it to pull of a trick off in front of a completely baked person?

Watch here.

Tonight, Oxygen is dipping their toe back, albeit with a tinge of reality television, into original comedy programming with Funny Girls.

Oxygen’s Funny Girls will follow the lives of comedians Scout Durwood, Calise Hawkins, Yamaneika Saunders, Nicole Aimee Schreiber, Stephanie Simbari, and Ester Steinberg in showing what it’s like coming up in the world of stand-up comedy these days.

Here’s a preview of what’s to come in case you aren’t well acquainted with how hard to do comedy in severely crowded field that it is.

Check out the premiere tonight at 9PM on Oxygen.

17 More Episodes of “Arrested Development” Are on The Way According to Brian Grazer

Big time producer Brian Grazer revealed to Bill Simmons on The B.S. Report that we’ll be getting another visit from The Bluth Family.

The announcement was almost in passing amidst talking about the success of Fox’s Empire, but Grazer did indeed announce to Simmons that 17 more episodes of Arrested Development are on the way.

We’re not sure of a time table, but since there’s a re-edit of season 4 also coming as well as the prospect of getting the cast together again in any capacity, a veritable season 5 might be far off.

America will be introduced to the magic that is the house comedy show as well as getting to see another set of magic that is Tig Notaro and her comedy.

Showtime got Tig Notaro to do a tour of comedy shows in people’s various homes throughout the country and captured the experience in a documentary special called “Knock Knock, It’s Tig Notaro”.

In addition to the amazing prospect that is Tig performing for an intimate crowd at someone’s house, the brilliant Jon Dore seems to be tagging along as well.

We’ll be able to see what shenanigans Tig and Dore get into throughout this special.

Netflix Adds Ricky Gervais’ “Special Correspondents” To Its Feature Film Slate

Netflix said they weren’t going to slow down and they’re keeping to their word.

Taking projects one by one from traditional media and distribution channels, Netflix already has a Pee Wee Herman movie from Judd Apatow coming their way and now has added Special Correspondents starring Ricky Gervais and Eric Bana on top of that.

Special Correspondents will follow journalists on the radio making up stories and the mess that follows. So a bit of Wag The Dog, Orson Welles’ War of The Worlds, perhaps?

We have a feeling that you should get ready for more of this sort of announcement from Netflix very soon.

Any takers on an anteater vs. whatever it is Conan created?

For his latest remote, Conan O’Brien took a shot at giving UC Irvine a much cooler mascot than the current one, an anteater.

O’Brien did so with haphazardly grabbed costume items from his show’s costume/wardrobe department.

Watch and enjoy the results here, then hope they put Conan’s mascot on some UC Irvine shirt.

We don’t know anyone that’s in bed, fast asleep at 12:30AM on a Monday night. So, with that in mind, you might want to watch the Sleight of Mouth with Justin Willman special premiering right at 12:30AM.

Not only will Willman be doing his slick style of magic and jokes, but the likes of Paul Scheer and Doug Benson will be joining him and we can only imagine what’s going to happen with those two. Will Paul be magically going in and out of a character? Will Justin make Benson make seem like he’s not high? We’ll all have to tune in and see on Comedy Central at 12:30AM tonight.

We wouldn’t be shocked at all to see a graph that shows many twenty and thirty somethings feel this way about doing taxes.

One of the most adult things you can ever do is pay taxes and in an age where childhood is preserved as much as possible, doing taxes is probably more of a mystifying thing than ever for many folks.

Dead Kevin perfectly exemplifies this current attitude towards doing your taxes in their latest sketch. So watch, laugh, and also go do your taxes.

This is one save the date that you should be unequivocally excited for.

Quite some time, almost three years in fact, has passed since Paul F. Tompkins’ last hour special “Laboring Under Delusions”. In that time, Paul has done so much other great projects going including No, You Shut Up!, Dead Authors, Speakeasy, and, most recently, Spontaneanation.

It’s amazing that Paul can pull all of that amazing stuff off and get a new hour together to tape a special on top of that.

That’s why you should block out Jun. 6th on your calendar and plan on heading to the gorgeous Palace Theatre in Downtown LA to see the taping of Paul F. Tompkins’ Crying and Driving. As soon as tickets are available, we will let you know.

Man oh man, when John Oliver does an interview, it’s a damn fine one.

This week’s Last Week Tonight ran a little longer than usual because, well, Oliver and co. scored a huge interview with the one and only Edward Snowden all the way in Russia. John pulled off the balance between legitimately poignant questions and questions about hot pockets and nude photos.

It’s clear that Oliver is accomplishing his apparent mission to talk, at length and in-depth, topics that we would hate talking about outside of a focus group or a college course and also be thoroughly entertaining while doing so.

Clear out 33:15 of your day today and watch yet another historic moment for Last Week Tonight.

This Tuesday! $5 show, 90 minutes of comedy, I workshop 45 min w 2 new openers every Tues 7:30 pm @thepophop! 50th&york! For next 3 months!

Maria Bamford is simply one of the best around and you’d be seriously remiss if you missed one or many of these nights.

Yes, Los Angeles, specifically Highland Park, you’re going to have the magical opportunity to watch the wondrous Maria Bamford workshop and perform a new 45 min. every Tuesday for the next three months in the intimate settings of Pop Hop Books and Print with two hand picked openers.

So mark down 7:30PM every Tuesday for April, May, and June, make sure you have $5 on you, and start hanging near Highland Park more often because, again, you’re not going to want to miss this.
