Watch “How To Make It In USA” Web Series Following Joe Pera and His New Manager

April 5, 2015
Uncategorized
conner o'malley, how to make it in usa, joe pera, manager, parody

Apparently, it’s going to take some work to book Joe.

Following the amazing Pancake Breakfast Critic, Joe Pera has a new web series where Late Night with Seth Meyers’ Conner O’Malley plays his new, very tentative, brash manager.

Right off the bat, a heightened stereotypical manager and Joe as himself is a pretty great dynamic

Please watch and enjoy the first episode of How To Make It In USA.

Also, the phone calls, according to the description, are real.

Again, enjoy.

Apparently, Most of The CAA Comedy Department Has Become a Big Part of UTA’s Comedy Department

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

Maybe BoJack Horseman will do an episode about this like they did the William Morris Endeavor merger?

Two big comedy agents, Jason Heyman and Martin Lesak, were at United Talent Agency or UTA, then uprooted with their clients and left to Creative Artists Agency or CAA making a huge shift in which agency had more leverage when it came to comedy.

Heyman and Lesak, after being reportedly dissatisfied at CAA for a long time, have headed back to UTA and are apparently taking what seems like the entirety of CAA’s comedy department including Nick Nuciforo, Susie Fox, Joanna Scott, Mackenzie Condon and Chelsea McKinnies and their high profile talent, Will Ferrell, Chris Pratt, Melissa McCarthy, Seth Meyers, and way more.

From the point of view of consumers of comedy, the effect might be negligible and comedy movies, television, web series, etc. proceed as planned. Now that legal action is being taken (via Deadline) by CAA against UTA and all the agents that moved over, perhaps certain projects will be slowed.

While suits are being filed and arbitrations are being made, hopefully everything else will seem business as usual.

James Corden to Host The CFDA Awards

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

We’re pretty sure it’s now safe to say that James Corden has had a successful launch to being the host of The Late Late Show.

With only two weeks under his belt as a late night talk show host in America, Corden has curried enough favor to be tapped to host The Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards on June 1st.

If James keeps all of this up, we wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him get a shot at hosting bigger and bigger awards shows down the road.

Ron Funches’ giggle alone could probably power a whole village.

This time on Conan, Funches got to sit and chat with Conan O’Brien rather than do stand-up. As you can clearly see, Funches is just a beaming of light positivity with a dash of self-deprecation thrown in.

Even getting serious infections from one of his old day jobs doesn’t keep Ron down.

If you’re wondering what Anthony Jeselnik as the host and Norm MacDonald as a judge on Last Comic Standing, wonder no more.

As you can see from this trailer, they really are there.

We’re thoroughly intrigued to see what peanuts of wisdom Norm hands out as well as Jeselnik will adjust to hosting a stand-up competition. Hopefully, they’ll unapologetically be themselves (or their on stage personas).

You can also catches glimpses of some great comedy folks including Nate Craig, Andy Erikson, Tony Baker, Ms. Pat, Lizzy Cooperman, Moses Storm, Junior Stopka, Nick Youssef, Ali Wong, Chris Fairbanks, and way more.

We’ll find out when the ninth season of Last Comic Standing premieres on Wed. July 22nd at 9pm on NBC.

Watch Trailer For “The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared”

April 4, 2015
Uncategorized
100 year old man who climbed out the window and disappeared, alan ford, felix herngren, jonas jonasson

A dynamite expert lived to be 100, then decided to escape from an old folks’ home.

Based on a book of the same name, The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared” by Jonas Jonasson, a man who perfected dynamite for a living goes on adventure at the ago of 100 with a man you’ll probably recognize as Brick Top from Snatch (Alan Ford) chasing him.

There’s no set U.S. theatrical release date and you might be able to piece the whole story from the trailer, but this adaptation from Sweden’s Felix Herngren does look like it could be a lot of fun.

This is only one of many amazing Sean O’Connor high school tales and we’re thankful that he’s doing stand-up so we can hear all of them.

This latest story from This Is Not Happening with Ari Shaffir shows the sort trouble that O’Connor would get into merely from doing a routine dissection in a Biology class. Apparently, it’s the sort of trouble that comes with examining whether this is going to form a pattern of sociopathic behavior.

Only a Few Shows In, James Corden Took “The Late Late Show” To a Stranger’s House

April 3, 2015
Uncategorized
beck, james corden, jeff goldblum, reggie watts, the late late show

We’ve been saying it and we’ll keep saying it: if James Corden is willing to take these fun risks and roll with whatever happens, then The Late Late Show is headed in the right direction.

Most late night talk shows so rarely leave the comfort of their studio for an entire episode that press releases are sent out months in advance when it happens.

As part of breaking new ground and breaking into the late night club, Corden is continuing to shake things up as he just taped an entire episode, monologue guests, bits, musical performance, and all at a strangers’ house.

So many genuine moments were had without the veil of soundstage and the sound of a studio audience and we’re pretty sure James made one of the residents’ day when they got to meet their hero Beck.

Hide and Go Seek got amped up because it’s a talk show, again, at a random house as well as guests Beck and Jeff Goldblum playing along.

A classic talk show staple of having animals and an animal trainer also gets taken to a whole new level as most of the animals make the inhabitants a little uneasy.

By the end of the night, there were no strangers and James most certainly got closer to meeting the people of America up close. If you want to watch the episode in its entirety, do so here.

We can only cross our fingers that Corden and company keep this sort of thing going on The Late Late Show.

Over a year ago, Minchin announced he was developing a musical adaptation of the comedy classic “Groundhog Day”. Today, it was announced that the musical will start its Broadway run in 2017 with previews in January and opening in March.

While this will take awhile, we have no doubt that as Tim is at the helm, it will be worth the wait.

Brian Stack Is Leaving “Conan” to Join “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”

In case you needed another reason to watch Stephen Colbert take over The Late Show from David Letterman, the comedic brilliance of Brian Stack is going to be part of Colbert’s team.

Much of the absurdist fun that Conan O’Brien has had over the years in his various versions of his show heavily feature one Brian Stack in a multitude of ridiculous characters including Frankenstein, the voice of Wiki Bear, a traveling salesman, and many more.

Announced yesterday, Stack’s last episode of Conan will be tonight and he will then be taking off to bring his genius to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and that show will be all the better for it.

Stack is the sort of guy that will probably get a great tribute montage of his best moments on Conan very soon.

David Letterman Enjoys Some Yelling With Billy Eichner a New “Billy On The Street”

After Letterman retires, maybe he’ll make a past time out of wandering the streets with Billy Eichner screaming pop culture questions and answers at strangers?

After getting a test run of sorts during Billy Eichner’s last appearance on Letterman, David Letterman went with Billy to do an episode of Billy On The Street and it was, as you’d expect, pretty great.

If Letterman does this again, maybe there could be a “Jaywalking” vs. Billy On The Street?

Already, Netflix has brought back Arrested Development, Wet Hot American Summer, and more and will now add to that list the likes of Bob Odenkirk and David Cross doing episodic television for their new show With Bob and David.

As Odenkirk has stated, it’s not going to be Mr. Show, but rather a new and improved sketch show with a lot of the same folks involved.

With Bob and David is currently in production and let’s hope we get to see it sometime later this year.

Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig Will Be in an Intentionally Campy Lifetime Movie “A Deadly Adoption” UPDATED: This Apparently Isn’t Happening

Though the news broke on Apr. 1st, this apparently isn’t a prank.

UPDATE: (via Deadline): This movie was still apparently not a prank, but it wasn’t supposed to be leaked either and now Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig have reportedly scrapped the whole thing.

In order to commemorate Lifetime’s 25 years on television, they’re poking fun at themselves by having Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez make a hammed up version of their already maudlin TV movies that they’ve become famous for.

The movie is going to be called A Deadly Adoption and will star Ferrell and Kristen Wiig where the two try to adopt an unborn child of a mother that they’re giving shelter to. As an added bonus, Spoils of Babylon writer Andrew Steele penned the script for the TV movie, which sounds pretty perfect to us.

So, it would seem that along with the Grumpy Cat movie last year, Lifetime is willing to have more fun these days.
