Tickets, Well, Waitlist Tickets Are Available For “With Bob and David” Tapings

April 12, 2015
Uncategorized
bob odenkirk, david cross, mr. show, netflix, tapings, tv tapings, with bob and david

Well, it was only announced this morning, so, of course, all the tickets are pretty much taken.

Now that Netflix has ordered four episodes and a special of “With Bob and David”, Bob Odenkirk and David Cross have moved forward with this new sketch show, which will include segments performed in front of a live audience.

Cross announced free tickets for the tapings that take place throughout this month at Andrita Studios. A short time passed before all the tickets were gone, but there is a waitlist if you want to hold out hope that anyone with a ticket might miss out.

There are tapings for With Bob and David on April 15th, 21st, 25th, and 30th.

Good luck if you don’t already have tickets.

To clarify, we’re not exactly clear on how the waitlist will work here, but all TV tapings do have waitlists/standby lines/etc. as they do not want an empty seat in the house. As soon as we know exactly how they’re going about a waitlist, we’ll let you know.

Fox Developing a TV Movie Adaptation of “Rocky Horror Picture Show”

April 11, 2015
Uncategorized

(via The Wrap)

Our guess is this is Fox taking a cue from NBC’s recent live productions of The Sound of Music and Peter Pan.

Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of the most enduring movies with screenings at theaters across the country that still has enthused costumed fans standing in line waiting to see it again. So, if Fox is indeed trying to do their version for network television, a 2 hour TV special version of Rocky Horror is a pretty good idea.

There’s no cast currently attached, but we know that they definitely should try working Tim Curry in there somehow.

Support Jason Nash’s Next Film “FML: A Social Media Adventure”

We really enjoyed Jason Nash’s “Jason Nash Is Married” last year and thus we think Nash’s latest film FML: A Social Media Adventure could use your help.

Interestingly enough, Nash’s last film featured him doing a podcast as that was what he was doing at the time when he was putting the film together.

Nowadays, Jason has become quite the star on Vine with over 1.5 million followers. As such, he’s making this film with Vine stars as a buddy road comedy with two guys, him as one and Brandon Calvillo as the other, from much different generations trying to up their social media presence.

The likes of TJ Miller, Patton Oswalt, Rob Corddry, Busy Philipps, Ken Marino, Andy Daly, and Paul Scheer will be in FML as well as Vine stars Cavillo, Brittany Furlan, and Sunny Mabrey.

They’re looking to raise $200K and are at $22,663 with less than three weeks to go. If you want to help and donate, do so here ASAP.

Here’s the Trailer For SNL Doc “Live From New York!”

If you didn’t feel that the montages of the SNL 40th Anniversary were in-depth enough about the history of Saturday Night Live, this should probably do the trick.

Bao Nguyen’s documentary Live From New York! will go throughout the timeline of SNL looking at the show’s inception, Lorne Michaels’ course at the helm, and the effect that it has had on American and global discourse in politics, pop culture, etc.

It’s set to play at the Tribeca Film Festival, but, for those of us not in attendance, we’ll have to chew on this trailer for awhile.

Here’s The First Teaser For HBO’s “The Brink”

With Armando Iannucci’s exit announced today, the release of this teaser seems perfectly timed.

HBO’s new comedy series geopolitical crisis comedy The Brink starring Jack Black and Tim Robbins has just gotten its first teaser today. As it deals with politics on an international level, it might pair nicely to Veep.

We’ll see exactly how that plays out on the Brink’s premiere on Jun. 21st at 10:30PM on HBO.

It truly was a spectacular night a week ago and we here at The Comedy Bureau thank all who attended as well as though who have kept us going throughout all these years and change. All of you make our efforts here worth it, despite not being any sort of “official” government agency with any government funding.

We also want to graciously thank Maria Bamford, Baron Vaughn, Candice Thompson, James Austin Johnson, Joe Wagner, Emily Heller, Drennon Davis, Karen Kilgariff, Brad Silnutzer, Avery Pearson, Christian Chavez, Echoes Under Sunset, Sarah Wood, and Mandee Johnson for all being part of or helping with the show.

The following is photographic evidence that this all happened.

Oh yeah, this guy, Jake Kroeger. He works here and likes hats.

To another 4 and 5/12th years and beyond where we relaunch the website (happening soon), expanding beyond LA (hopefully happening soon), etc. (perhaps happening at a point TBD). Any donations (there’s a donation button right above the embedded Comedy Crawl and Open Mic Run calendars) would definitely expedite any of these things happening.

Once more, thank you all for making this, whatever it is exactly we do, worth it.

Most of you think you’re some sort of fearsome predator or noble, upstanding creature. According to the findings of Joe Zimmerman, the Internet thinks otherwise.

Curb Your Enthusiasm’s David Mandel will be taking the reins upon Iannucci’s exit.

With family back home in London and an itch to do more movies, Armando Iannucci is stepping down from his own series Veep after four stellar seasons.

We can only hope this will go notably better than what happened in season 4 of Community and that maybe Iannucci will give British intelligence agencies another course on comedy in his spare time.

Aasif Mandvi’s “Halal In The Family” Not Only Fights Islamophobia, But Makes An 80s Multi Cam Style Sitcom Watchable in 2015

April 10, 2015
Uncategorized
aasif mandvi, funny or die, halal in the family, islamophobia, jordan klepper, samantha bee

Aasif Mandvi really ran with what could have been just one segment on The Daily Show with correspondents Jordan Klepper and Samantha Bee and made it to something potentially groundbreaking.

A couple of months ago when Mandvi crowfunded the money to finish his spin on an classic multi cam sitcom depicting a Muslim American family in the suburbs facing all the problems that all the other American families have faced in similar suburbs over the years, we didn’t know that Halal in the Family could be this good.

Aasif does accomplish his goal of cutting down stereotypes long held by many Americans about Muslims through the lives of The Qu’osby Family (hopefully, we’ll think more positively about this family rather than the other one with the “C” instead of the “Qu”) as you can see when there is a whole “mistaken identity spy” mishap.

While there is a veil of a classic style sitcom, Halal In The Family’s intention is to be as satirical as possible and, as such, they don’t run away from the jokes that cut deep. No matter if it’s mistaken perceptions of terrorists, misguided racial slurs, or downplaying ethnicity, the show stays where most multi cam sitcoms wouldn’t dare go. Perhaps, this is the secret to doing a multi cam sitcom in an age where people often question whether the format is played out or not.

Whether that proves to be the case or not, definitely give the four episodes of Halal In The Family on Funny or Die a watch now.

If you were dreaming of having a pyramid of Simpsons DVD box sets, you’re going to have buy up what you don’t have quickly and possibly make some yourself.

The multi-DVD brick cases that hold hours and hours of Simpsons episodes, bonus features, and commentary are no longer going to be produced as The Simpsons have pretty much gone digital with SimpsonsWorld.com.

So, if you do indeed want to own all the box sets that have been ever made, better snag them up quick online or possibly, engage in what’s becoming an old past time of going to a store to buy a DVD.

Maybe this will be the thing that will have Eddie Murphy return to telling jokes on stage?

Following Richard Pryor, Jonathan Winters, Carl Reiner, Whoopi Goldberg, Bob Newhart, Lily Tomlin, Lorne Michaels, Steve Martin, Neil Simon, Billy Crystal, George Carlin, Bill Cosby, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Ellen DeGeneres, Carol Burnett, and Jay Leno, Eddie Murphy will be the latest to receive the prestigious Mark Twain Prize For Humor from The Kennedy Center.

With a tribute on Spike TV, some touching remarks from Chris Rock at the SNL 40th Anniversary, and now this Mark Twain Prize, we wonder if there is a ratio of tribute specials to live comedy appearances where he does a little more than say thank you.

Anytime Jon Dore is in the studio at Conan, hijinks are the order of the day and he has a good time retelling the Goldilocks story in the middle of their interview with Tig Notaro and Conan O’Brien offering color commentary.

They also got to talking about their new show where they do stand-up at people’s houses “Knock, Knock, It’s Tig Notaro”, which sounds like it will be great both in concept and from what you can see from their chemistry on Conan.

Louis C.K.: Live From The Comedy Store premieres May 28th and “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll” and season 2 of “Married” premiere July 16th.

FX gets the first TV dibs on Louis C.K.’s latest special “Live at The Comedy Store” that will make its TV debut almost two months after the season 5 premiere of Louie.

Following that, Denis Leary’s new comedy and hair in Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll and the second season of Married will round out FX’s comedy schedule for a while.

Between this, Netflix’s upcoming comedy, Veep and Silicon Valley returning, etc., the only time you might have freed up is those few months between Letterman leaving The Late Show and Colbert taking over.

James Corden has gone where no late night host has gone before in stopping traffic on LA’s very busy Beverly Blvd. and a line of sneakerheads waiting for a shoe release.

So far on this week of The Late Late Show with James Corden, they’ve already had two clever remotes.

One of them has Corden rallying up an entire production of Grease to be performed in costume in the crosswalk while midday traffic is stopped. The other has James getting in with some of the folks camping out to be the first to get a new pair of limited edition Jordans, then flipping the script on them with some unexpected trivia.

Anywhere in the vicinity of CBS Television City will probably be part of some Late Late Show bit over the next year.
