Peter Serafinowicz Dubs Donald Trump with the Voice of Homer Simpson

As Homer Simpson is a beloved animated character for nearly three decades on television and Donald Trump is a real-life, figurative black hole of idiocy, bigotry, and privilege, we get how this mash-up dub from Peter Serafinowicz is sort of unholy.

Still, if there is anyone that shouldn’t be in charge of nuclear power in the real world, Trump is in the top 10, which is probably subconscious reason of why we still enjoy this parody video plenty.

FX Developing ‘Meaty’ From Samantha Irby, Jessi Klein and Abbi Jacobson

Half of Broad City plus the head of writer of Inside Amy Schumer taking on Samantha Irby’s life sounds like the right ingredients for another FX series you should keep an eye on.

Irby and Jessi Klein, who is the Inside Amy Schumer head writer, are writing and executive producing this project together with Abbi Jacobson also set to executive produce.

So, if this go to series, a good portion of the comedy landscape on television will be nicely occupied by Broad City, Better Things, Insecure, and Meaty.

This week’s edition of Comedy Central’s The Half Hour features half hour stand-up specials from Nick Turner and Martha Kelly.

Specifically, it’ll be Martha’s special at 12AM and Nick’s at 12:30AM tonight on Comedy Central.

We’re not sure if this was done intentionally or not, but Nick’s preview clip deals with one dog and Martha’s deals with four cats and one dog. Is it forecasting a sort of raining cats and dogs jokes? Guess you’ll have to tune in tonight to find out.

Watch Conan O’Brien Annoy The F Out of Kevin Hart During a Workout

For Conan’s latest remote segment, he joins Kevin Hart for a workout session. In addition to being a very successful comedian and actor, Hart is known for his athletic regimen and fitness while Conan O’Brien is a legendary for being able to take a situation devoid of comedy and make it so damn funny.

So, what ensues is a great attempt at trying to workout that gets skillfully derailed by Conan O’Brien really getting underneath Hart’s skin. In fact, there are several moments where it almost looks like Hart isn’t doing a bit anymore and is genuinely frustrated. It’s kind of wonderful to watch.

Watch and enjoy the workout/bickering session here.

Taika Waititi Making a Spin-Off of What We Do in the Shadows Called “Paranormal Event Response Unit”

Along with Dana Gould’s Stan Against Evil, now might be the time for the horror comedy procedural.

One of the best comedies in recent memory is Taika Waititi’s What We Do in the Shadows. The mockumentary of the everyday life of vampires in New Zealand was fantastic and thankfully started making Waititi’s name one to remember here in America.

New Zealand’s own NZ On Air has put up money for a first season of a TV spin-off that follows cops, from the What We Do in the Shadows universe, who are trying to keep the living alive.

Called Paranormal Event Response Unit, we think it’d be a real smart move on the part of any network or streaming service to strike a North American distribution deal now.

Jon Glaser Loves Gear looks to be the multi-layered absurdist show that might spiritually follow up where Review with Forrest MacNeil left off as Jon Glaser reviews gear, but also struggles with personal issues that seep into reviewing gear and vice versa.

See for yourself in the first full trailer here, then look for the series premiere on Wednesday, October 26th at 10PM on TruTV.

With their being almost seemingly an infinite amount of television, it’s completely reasonable that you might miss one stand-up special on a subscription based premium cable network.

That being said, we hope you did indeed watch W. Kamau Bell: Semi-Prominent Negro a few months back when it aired on Showtime for the whip-smart, jolly dissection of current issues including race, gender fluidity, gentrification, and hair.

You can now (and really should) get it as an album from Kill Rock Stars or iTunes or Bandcamp or Amazon.

This season 2 trailer looks like it’s more than up to that task.

Look for season 2 of Bajillion Dollar Propertie$ to start streaming on Thursday, October 13th.

Adventure Time Coming to a Close After Season 9

As far as animation that was initially created for kids that also really connects with adults, Adventure Time really gave Pixar a run for its money.

Pendelton Ward’s much beloved animated series will have gone 9 seasons on Cartoon Network as well as have a Simpsons couch gag to their name by the time their run ends.

Before you get too sad, Adventure Time is set to run through 2018.

The latest episode of RIOT’s Womanhood takes us back to the days of high school and prom as hosts Aparna Nancherla and Jo Firestone not only go shopping for their prom dresses, but check for approval from their mothers.

Also, so much “drama” happened that they had to make it into a “two parter”. By the way, Womanhood just might be one of this year’s best web series.

Amy Schumer Is First Woman to Make Forbes’ Top 10 Highest Earning Comedians List, Kevin Hart Scores Top Spot

Score two for diversity.

Kevin Hart was far and away the top earning comedian by pulling in $87.5 million and Schumer cracks into what is pretty much exclusively a boys club (no mention of Joan Rivers through the years seems odd) with $17 million.

Also, it’s nice to see Dave Chappelle and Jim Gaffigan on the list as that would suggest that this top 10 list isn’t getting more balanced with comedians that are oft-appreciated for their craft.

You’re The Worst Gets Picked Up for 4th Season at FXx

Stephen Falk might be well on his way to one of the best distillations of love, sex, relationships, mental illness, veterans, real life in LA, and more with his show You’re The Worst.

He’s already been lauded as such over the past three seasons and has scored a quick renewal for a 4th season from FXx with only a few episodes of season 3 having aired.

Don’t be surprised if You’re The Worst is inching in on ‘prestige comedy’ territory.

Get Nick Turner’s Very Fun Debut Album “Yelling”

September 29, 2016
Uncategorized
comedy album, nick turner, stand up, yelling

When it comes to comedians having their act feel tight, Nick Turner ranks pretty high on that list. What’s especially impressive about Nick’s stand-up being well-crafted is that he really doesn’t rely on one-liners, which does lend itself to that comedic efficiency more easily.

Instead, Turner has extended bits that feel loose, but have been carefully honed. Some of them jovially oscillate back and forth between truth and utter silliness and even in front of and behind the fourth wall. His debut album Yelling, preceding his upcoming half hour special on Comedy Central, is a great display of all of Turner’s comedic prowess at work.

The album comes out September 30th (that’s probably tomorrow if you’re reading this as soon as we posted it), but we say that you should go ahead and pre-order Yelling here.

All Three Amazon Comedy Pilots, The Tick, I Love Dick, and Jean-Claude Van Johnson, Ordered to Full Series

Looks like Amazon might be getting the hang of this streaming service thing or, at the very least, have a better grasp of what they want their programming to be.

Just a few weeks ago, Amazon streamed all their comedy pilots, the aforementioned The Tick, I Love Dick, and Jean-Claude Van Johnson, per their original programming development model that supposedly works in audience votes into the greenlighting decision process.

We’re not sure exactly what made Amazon brass greenlight all three series which cover a wide range of types of comedy (a live action version of The Tick and a new, sexuality subverting series from Jill Soloway almost seem on the opposite ends of the comedy spectrum), but they have indeed ordered full seasons of all three series.

This also includes the meta, detective comedy Jean-Claude Van Johnson starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as himself going undercover.

Just hope it won’t be too long before we can start see the rollout of each of these series.

Funny Women Fest LA Is Taking Submissions Until October 14th

The festival is set to take place in Highland Park on Thursday, November 30th through Saturday, December 3rd and will help benefit the Downtown Women’s Center.

They’re looking for female performers in stand-up, sketch, improv, storytelling, musical comedy, sketch, short film, and pilot scripts. Fees range from $20-$50 depending on whether you’re submitting as an individual or a group.

That’s not a pretty good deal especially considering you’re helping an LA foundation that deals with women overcoming homelessness.

Again, the submission deadline is Friday, October 14th, 2016 at midnight.
