Hulu Shifting Its Free TV Offerings to New Yahoo View | Hollywood Reporter

If you’ve been enjoying a free ride of the five latest episodes of Black-ish, Fresh Off the Boat, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Last Man on Earth a few days after they air or were looking forward to streaming new network comedies like The Good Place, Making History, or Speechless, know that you’re going to probably have to make sure to do so at Yahoo View, the new TV and Hulu distribution partner site from Yahoo.

This is all now happening because Hulu is going to be a full subscription service.

Yahoo Screen To Be No More

That’s really too bad.

After Community’s latest season, SNL, Other Space, and Sin City Saints didn’t quite work out the way Yahoo wanted, Yahoo is calling it quits with their free streaming service, Yahoo Screen.

The SNL archive now rests online at Seeso and Other Space and Sin City Saints can be viewed within Yahoo rather than Yahoo Screen exclusively.

We guess this will have to be chalked up as an inevitable false start in the rise of streaming services to the prominence of networks and studios.

However, there still seems to be hope for a movie.

Community star Joel McHale said that Yahoo couldn’t afford another season of Community with all of the cast’s rates going up since the beginning of the series. However, Yahoo and Sony, in response to McHale’s comments, are apparently still talking about what might be next.

Still, McHale, series creator Dan Harmon along with these open discussions between Yahoo and Sony point towards the goal of #sixseasonsandamovie coming to fruition.

It Would Seem That The Fate of “Community” Comes Down To Whether Everyone Wants To Come Back

As of right now, there is no official word on whether there will be a 7th season of Community on Yahoo.

Yet, based off of Joel McHale’s appearance on Conan this week and the positive response that the season 6 finale seems to be getting, the door seems open to doing a movie or more episodes of Community so long as the cast and Dan Harmon want to get moving on either one.

They are so close to accomplishing #sixseasonsandamovie, but it would be hard to think of them doing a movie just for a hashtag.

Variety got this exclusive clip that not only will give you a bit of relief if you need any sort of Community fix before tomorrow’s premiere.

Tomorrow, Yahoo will be furthering themselves in the online streaming game by premiering season 6 of Community and then offering a new episode to stream on Tuesdays.

We have a feeling that #sixseasonsandamovie won’t be all that Harmon has in store for Community if the new home at Yahoo fares well.

After the harrowing time where we wondered whether Community was going to live on or end its run at 5 seasons, we have now have a more enjoyable period in waiting for the season 6 premiere.

More specifically, all you have to do is wait until Mar. 17th when Yahoo Screen will release two episodes, then one per week after that.

Though, the cast and creator “thinks” you should already know that by now.

With Community’s return for a season 6 on Yahoo being only a couple of months away, there’s only more anticipation building over the series that has defied expectations at every turn.

On top of the miracle that was pulled off by making it to its sixth season (and hopefully a movie), Community has added two new cast members in Paget Brewster, who we’d hope you be familiar with from a guest role in Community as well as her regular role in The Thrilling Adventure Hour, and Keith David who has been in a vast myriad of things, but we’ll never forget for his disturbing role in Requiem For a Dream.

We’re into this additions especially since Yvette Nicole Brown has left Community.

Paul Feig’s Other Space, his upcoming Yahoo series, is starting to shape up as it’s gathered up a great cast in Joel Hodgson and Trace Beaulieu from a famous comedy series set in space, Mystery Science Theater 3000, in addition to a great bunch in Eugene Cordero, Neil Casey, Milana Vayntrub, Conor Leslie, Bess Rous, and Karen Soni.

Feig is going to delve into what it would be like if man explored most of the universe is the type, which leaves plenty of room for echoes of Undeclared and Freaks and Geeks.

We’re absolutely looking forward to this when it comes around next year.

Yahoo’s Marissa Mayer Planning to Have Tumblr Be Answer to YouTube

Last year, Yahoo bought Tumblr, but was Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer was adamant that she Tumblr operate independently.

Well, this year with the focus of all online entities shifting to producing original video content more than ever, Yahoo might just be shifting course with Tumblr. Basically, Tumblr might just have its video platform shaped into something that could be on the level of YouTube. This includes bringing in talent from the likes of YouTube and elsewhere to generate content.

Tumblr making a bid for video will be interesting in see how much they’ll improve their video player and what type of videos they’ll end up producing (hopefully, for our interests, plenty of comedy). It’s also interesting to note that parallels of the old Hollywood studio system and having talent signed an individual studio and the way that online streaming services assembling their shows and stars exclusive to them.

In Dan Harmon’s latest appearance on the Nerdist podcast, he teased that Community might be making it season 6 premiere on Yahoo at the tail end of January.

While the date has yet to be made official, the sooner that Community returns, the better, and closer to #sixseasonsandamovie.

Defying all odds, Community got its sixth season at Yahoo after being cancelled at NBC and, accordingly, the Community fan organized convention known as CommuniCon is onto to its third edition at the last weekend in October. Panels, costumes, and more all happen plentifully and it has been something you shouldn’t miss if you’re even a casual fan of Community for its last two go arounds.

“The Batman Weekend Pass” has already sold out, so you should get the other passes that are still available while you still can.

Yesterday, there was a panel for Community at Comic Con and series creator Dan Harmon remarked that the return of the show would probably come after Christmas at their new home at Yahoo.

It might be a few months to wait, but we have a feeling that it will be worth given the fact that Harmon isn’t necessarily bound by 22 min. running time for a half hour sitcom or as stringent language/content restrictions.

After a decade of doing features and doing the occasional producing and directing on various TV shows, Paul Feig is getting his own show once again. This time it will be through Yahoo, though, you should note that it will still be a half hour comedy and, from the sound of it, it might be Freaks and Geeks set in another galaxy.

Look for 8 episodes of Other Space to drop later this year or early in 2015.
