Nikki Glaser Explains How Little We Care About Maiden Names in Her New Hour Special

April 6, 2016
Uncategorized
comedy central, comedy special, hour special, maiden name, nikki glaser, perfect, preview, stand up

One of the sticking points of marriage that probably doesn’t get brought up enough is the one of a wife automatically taking her husband’s last name, leaving her last name out in the cold.

Fortunately, Nikki Glaser perfectly shines a light on the issue in her new hour Comedy Central special “Perfect” and illustrates how little we collectively regard a maiden name.

Oh yeah, you should definitely watch Perfect when it premieres on Saturday, April 9 at 11PM on Comedy Central. It’s damn good.

<a href=“http://rooftopcomedy.bandcamp.com/album/physical-whisper”>Physical Whisper by Josh Gondelman</a>

It’s believed by many that all comedians are a heap of depressed quasi-sociopaths that just happened to find an outlet in comedy.

Josh Gondelman is undeniable proof against that.

Gondelman maintains his identity as an optimist in his comedy while still pointing out the overlooked absurdities of every day life and being really funny about it. His sharp, clever writing, unwavering positivity, and awareness of the not-so-positive world around him make for a really great hour on his new album Physical Whisper.

Off of Rooftop Comedy’s label, Physical Whisper is out this Friday, Mar. 18th and you can get it here.

Carmen Lynch is the latest stand-up to perform on Conan and not only does she garner applause breaks throughout, but shows that there is original way to talk about a topic that’s overly commonplace in stand-up, dating.

Coming from a personal place, Carmen along with Rust presents a unique comedic perspective on that awful thing comedians refer to as dating (amongst other manly topics), especially since her height in particular didn’t do her many favors in regard to any romantic chase.

So, we’re not surprised to see her on The Tonight Show do a stand-up set last night rather than not sitting on the couch and chatting with Jimmy or winning puppies from a quiz.

As cute as puppies can be, we prefer this much more.

Honestly, we have a hard time believing this is Dwayne Kennedy’s debut album as he has been so funny for such a long time. In any case, we’re glad that he has an album now, “Oh No, It’s Dwayne Kennedy”.

There is a certain great, classic feel to Dwayne’s stand-up, yet it doesn’t feel dated or out-of-touch at all, even when he ribs being on Twitter. Much of that is due to his particular angle on the black experience that’s exquisitely composed and well thought out, but also hysterically pulls no punches.

Get Oh No, It’s Dwayne Kennedy on Bandcamp or iTunes now.

Apparently, it’s $9 for black folks and “it depends” for white folks.

However, as Brooks Wheelan finds out in his latest episode of Laughs in Translation, the stereotype of Germany and humor (or lack there of) doesn’t quite hold up in 2016.
