Danny Solomon Indeed Has “Genius” Bits on New Album “Genius”

When it comes to the process of dissecting and mining life observations for so-called comedic gems, Danny Solomon sure knows how to find true diamonds in the rough.

That is to say that Danny’s new hour on his album Genius really showcases he expert ability in hone some pretty complex, yet funny premises into through-and-through fully realized, laugh-out-loud bits. Pointing out the absurdity of his nightmares in comparison to the horrors of his real life and his ingenious angle on time travel (which, to our knowledge, we have never heard before) are great example of this.

So, we urge you to enjoy this new hour Genius from Danny Solomon as it just dropped today. You can get it on iTunes here.

Please Get Kate Willett’s Delightful, Sex Positive, Feminist Album “Glass Gutter”

Kate Willett may work a bit “blue”, but she brings a certain intelligence, craftsmanship, and vulnerability in talking about sexuality on stage that evolve such a simplistic description based on how racy some people might find her material.

She’s sincere and completely willing to dissect her life, including all the peaks and valleys. In that regard, the title for her brand new album “Glass Gutter” is perfect because Kate is set on a mission to ensure equality between genders at all levels no matter if they’re high or low.

Here’s a bit off the album accompanied by a clever reenactment.

You can (and should) get Glass Gutter off of iTunes right now from Rooftop Comedy.

Please Get Jim Tews’ Debut Album “I Was in Band”

Though some of you may know Jim Tews as a cat whisperer of sorts that wrote Felines of New York, we’d hope that you were able to catch and enjoy him doing stand-up in and throughout NYC (and elsewhere) over the last couple of years like we have.

Tews, while unassuming in his persona, exudes a polite, subtle charm. This first album “I Was in Band” gives a great introduction to Jim and really shows off his knack for molding great comedy from his sensitivity to the world around him.

I Was In Band is out now from Rooftop Comedy and available on iTunes and Bandcamp.

Get Brian Moote’s Debut Comedy Album “Artsy?” Out Now

Brian Moote’s debut comedy album Artsy? has been in, our opinion, a long time coming. Moote is one of those nomadic comedians that splits plenty of time between different cities that they call home and doing the road and has the comedic chops to warrant that much traveling. Thus, we’re thrilled that he finally has an hour of stand-up on record.

The album is filled with personal stories that Brian has carefully honed into structurally sound bits. He also has a charming stage presence that lasts for days on end and a good eye for highlighting those small details that make his material

Check it out for yourself by getting a copy of Artsy? from Rooftop Comedy.

This week, Geoff Tate came out with his third album, Again, from Rooftop Comedy and it’s best hour of stand-up yet.

Tate has gotten sharper and more detailed in his personal observations for this record, but that doesn’t take away from his overall laid back stage persona. Thus, the hour is more cleverly crafted than you might be aware of as Tate’s easygoing delivery has a certain, undeniable charm.

Listen to two tracks to hear it for yourself.

Again is available on iTunes and at Rooftop Comedy now.

Physical Whisper by Josh Gondelman

It’s believed by many that all comedians are a heap of depressed quasi-sociopaths that just happened to find an outlet in comedy.

Josh Gondelman is undeniable proof against that.

Gondelman maintains his identity as an optimist in his comedy while still pointing out the overlooked absurdities of every day life and being really funny about it. His sharp, clever writing, unwavering positivity, and awareness of the not-so-positive world around him make for a really great hour on his new album Physical Whisper.

Off of Rooftop Comedy’s label, Physical Whisper is out this Friday, Mar. 18th and you can get it here.

Mike Cronin’s Debut Album “Hot For Too Long” Out Now from Rooftop Comedy

Rooftop Comedy has been on a streak lately with their most recent comedy album releases. We’ve enjoyed records from Andy Erikson and Alex Stone off of their label and their latest release from Cincinnati’s Mike Cronin, Hot For Too Long, was a delight as well.

Cronin has a great midwest homespun flavor to his comedy. Yet, he also has meticulously crafted it to weave jokes, both high and low brow, delicately throughout for a solid first hour.

You can get Hot For Too Long from Rooftop here.

That would probably more than encourage you to buy her new album Secret Unicorn just released from Rooftop Comedy.

If you aren’t, then give her album a listen to see what we and LCS are talking about.

Comedian/storyteller Alex Stone has just released his debut album/great collection of stories “Hello.” off of Rooftop Comedy (not literally).

All his stories have been tightly woven with jokes and humor of a midwestern sensibility that has figured out the big city and acclimated nicely.

Get his album Hello. here.

Amazon Acquires Rooftop Comedy via Audible

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

The company you always hear so much about while listening to your favorite podcasts, Audible, will now be more than for just hearing audio versions of books.

Audible has just brought Rooftop Comedy into their fold, which really means that Rooftop is now part of Amazon’s fold. Other than partnering Audible, Rooftop doesn’t seem like they’ll be changing course much and will continue in their current direction of taping and distributing live comedy like the Holy F*ck album, but, presumably, with a little more corporate weight behind them.

We’re curious to see if the number of people listening to comedy albums off of Rooftop’s label will get a spike from this.

Along with the great myriad of comedy releases that you should get in on this week, Dylan Brody’s Dylan Goes Electric: Live at the Throckmorton should be added to your list.

This latest album of Brody’s came out this past Tues. and has been our favorite of his the comedian and storyteller’s discography thus far. When Bob Dylan went electric (we’re assuming that’s what Brody is referencing with his album title; our apologies if he’s not) all those decades ago, there was a divide that came between his fans. This particular Dylan and this record definitely doesn’t have that problem as Brody’s ornate storytelling are injected, in this record, with a great playfulness.

Get Dylan Goes Electric: Live at the Throckmorton from Rooftop Comedy here.

3) National Comedy College Competition is now open for submissions. If you’re in a participating school and damn funny, you should do this.

8) The Comedy Bureau “Tips Its Hat” today to… actually, I’m going to scale the “Tip of the Hat to weekly event that will be revealed on Fridays. For those fans of the "Tip of the Hat”, I’m sorry that you won’t see it everyday, but there will be a more extensive write-up of the comedic performer that the Comedy Bureau chooses to feature.

9) From the “You Should Have Been There” Lagoon: is going to be renamed to reflect something more current and topical as what will be posted here will be comedy that is both relevant to right now and somehow happened years ago. Ex. Starbucks came out with the new Trenta size and (even though I’ve already posted it) Lewis Black bit about Starbucks and the End of the Universe will be posted.

10) More big changes coming to the Comedy Bureau to make it better for all of you graciously and thankfully read as well as myself who makes the Comedy Bureau almost a part time job except for the getting paid part.
