Please Get and Enjoy Erin Foley’s Latest Hour “Deep Dive”

Erin Foley is such a fierce delight as a comedian. Time and time again, she has proven this with her other hours of stand-up and whenever we’ve seen her live in town over many years. Deep Dive, her latest album, is yet another great offering that holds up our above description of Foley.

Erin, in a manner speaking, performs the hell out of her jokes in such an awesome way that we’re on board for whatever hot takes she’s dishing out on sports, LGBTQ, getting older, etc. There are well-crafted jokes about those very topics on Deep Dive, but, as always, the delivery, timing, and even the timbre of her voice are so hilarious and gratifying to listen to and watch. Truly, she can be angry and charming at the same time, making this an album you really ought to get.

So, go get Deep Dive out now from 800 Pound Gorilla Records here.

Please Get and Enjoy Emmy Blotnick’s Fantastic New Album “Party Nights”

Ever since we saw Emmy Blotnick start dropping by LA years ago, we’ve thoroughly been delighted in her unabashed excitement that she exudes on stage though seeming, at first glance, perhaps modest and reserved. Her giddiness for sharing her comedy with you is infectious and part of why, for us, her well observed jokes connect so well.

Her latest hour on the newly released album Party Nights is a perfect showcase of all of this. From the get go, there is an unmistakable throughline of joy in Blotnick’s performance, even during the most self-deprecating lines, that make Party Nights a really wonderful comedy album. After listening to it, we almost want to hear Emmy’s take on, well, anything at all for how simultaneously subversive and fun it would be.

Party Nights now is available from 800 Pound Gorilla here.

Wayne Federman, long respected comedian and, now, professor along with Andrew Steven are back with season 2 of their wonderfully informative History of Standup podcast.

This season is getting into the niche specifics of various comedy scenes and venues that were hotbeds for stand-up at a given time. Such places that will be covered include SF’s Holy City Zoo, the Chitlin’ Circuit, Nerdmelt, and more. It’s incredibly well-researched with many of the comedians that came up in said scenes and times speaking on what those clubs, theaters, bars, etc. meant to them when getting their sea legs in stand-up.

Season 2 just premiered today with an episode focused on the Holy City Zoo and San Francisco’s amazing stand-up scene from the 80s and 90s.

Sound cool? Cool. Get into the History of Standup right now right here.

For those unfamiliar with Sean Jordan or uninitiated to All Fantasy Everything podcast (where he is a regularly recurring member of the podcast), you’re in for a sweet treat if you (and you should) give Jordan’s new album “The Buck Starts Here”.

Jordan himself is a sweet, sweet man that happens to also contain an encyclopedia’s worth of colloquialisms (perhaps he has made up a few?). All of that is put lovingly on display in this new hour. His stories of his life and the uniquely playful way he goes about telling them are undeniably delightful. In fact, we’ll be that whatever idea you had of someone who loves skateboarding that grew up in Sioux Falls, SD that went on to be a comedian will be changed for the better from The Buck Starts Here.

The Buck Starts Here is available now and you can (and, again, you should) get it on Apple Music here.

If You Haven’t Already, Please Enjoy Wanda Sykes’ Latest Special “Not Normal”

This special “Not Normal” is a great reminder that Wanda can still have audience rolling with laughs and applause for a whole damn hour and that she’s, without a doubt, one of the best comics working today.

It has been a few years (2016 to be exact) since Wanda Skyes put out a special. So, in that time between then and now, as the U.S. and the world has gotten a little crazy (if not really crazy), the title for this latest special, Not Normal, seems very apt. It also should clue you in to the political bent of the special. In fact, Wanda, almost seeming to get it out of the way, shares her firebrand feelings on Trump.

Even though audiences are fatigued with Trump material these days, Sykes’ panache shines through and is instantly charming. Wanda transitions the rest of the hour from politics to less divisive topics with her take on The Bachelor and the inner workings of her family as Wanda is married to a French woman. It’s a great, classic hour of stand-up from the inimitable voice of Wanda Sykes and you should definitely watch Not Normal (or watch it again).

Billy Wayne Davis is one of our favorite comedians working today with his sly comic sensibilities masked by his welcoming voice (as well as being one of the rare comedians to record an album at Jack White’s Third Man Records).

He’ll be taping his brand new special this Wednesday at an old chapel at Mountain View Mortuary & Cemetery in Altadena, CA.

That’s right, you’ll get to see Billy tape his hour at a funeral home’s chapel.

There are two tapings, 7:30PM and 10:30PM, and they aiming to start on time. Admission is free so long as you RSVP at BookingBWD@gmail.com. We’re going to say that this will be worth the trek to Altadena if you’re not close.

In debating whether all comedians are inherently sad clowns, the name Josh Gondelman is routinely brought up to refute such claims as he is undeniably a positive light of a human being and also undeniably funny.

Dancing on a Weeknight marks Gondelman’s third album and further proof that his cleverness, command of the English language, and his beautifully open-minded perspective on the world can provide for a hysterical voice in comedy. Having worked the writing rooms of Last Week Tonight and Desus and Mero, Josh knows how to write a brutal punchline and his very sharp writing gets more surprising with his calm, easing voice and delivery.

Dancing on a Weeknight is now available from Blonde Medicine. Go get it and enjoy it on any night (or day) here.
