This comedy debate show, Straw Men, really pushes the envelope with how hilariously childish you can get in a debate and it’s all the more brilliant for it. The catharsis you’ll get from seeing adults resort to name calling in debates over the weirdest topics is just so damn fun.

So, don’t miss this latest edition of Straw Men, which has a killer line-up as well. Go get your tickets here.

Hailing from Brooklyn, Sam Taggart will be gracing us once again with his clever/silly wit, verve, characters, songs (he did, after all, do a whole wonderful show about being a comic for a dance club, i.e. a “club comic”) for his new show All 4 U. Joining him will be the wondrous Joel Kim Booster and Charles Gould.

All 4 U is coming to the Lyric Hyperion on May 20th at 10PM. Tickets are $8 and you can (and should) get them here.

Thus, we feel obligated to tell you that she is bringing her two critically acclaimed, award winning solo shows, LAID and NATE, back to the place where they were born, Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe. Whether you’ve never seen it or seen it multiple times, you shouldn’t miss out on Natalie doing these encore performances.

Brendon Burns has fiercely carved his place in comedy around the globe. Blazing through the international comedy festival circuit, doing his own podcasts, and having made 9 comedy specials, the unfiltered Burns is sincerely (and has been for quite some time) a comedic force to be reckoned with.

This Friday night, he’ll be headlining the amazing Lyric Hyperion and you really ought to catch it. You can (and should) go get your tickets here.

When it comes to the unapologetic, the whole-truth-and-nothing-but-the-truth style of stand-up of comedy, we’ve been enjoying see Fielding Edlow hone her own niche and channeling her rage into delightful rants, stories, and bits over the last few years.

Now, she’ll be taping a half hour over at the Lyric Hyperion on Thurs. Mar. 28th at 8PM with the great Kira Soltanovich opening. Admission is FREE and you can get more details and RSVP here.

FYI, you might want to be careful googling what’s on the flyer if you don’t already know what it is.

The Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe continues to be one of the best places to see the sort of comedy you’d normally see internationally at the Edinburgh Fringe or the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Their latest offering comes from sophisticated “Frenchman” Marcel Lucont who is an award winner at the Edinburgh Fringe and has indeed toured the globe with his “deadpan wit, bawdy chansons and world-class sex poetry”. If you’ve wanted to see someone do an hour in character (Lucont is played by Alexis Dubus), this would be it.

He’ll be playing two dates at Lyric Hyperion coming up, Sunday, March 10th at 6PM and Monday, March 11th at 8PM and you shouldn’t miss out. Tickets are $10 online and $12 at the door and you can (and should) get them here.

The Cooties are, in our opinion, one of the best musical comedy acts around. Their harmonies and absurdist lyrics are so unabashedly and undeniably fun and sweet to the ear.

It has been a minute since they’ve played in town, so don’t miss their latest show on Thu. Feb. 28th 8PM at The Satellite (which will just also feature another one of the best musical comedy acts around, Garfunkel & Oates, and even a member of the wondrous indie pop band Vulfpeck, Jack Stratton).

Tickets are only $10! Go get ‘em here.

More likely than not, the opportunity probably slipped through your fingers to watch Thompson’s unapologetic, yet perfectly coifed firebrand Buddy Cole let loose.

Thankfully, Thompson is doing an entire month long residency at the Lyric Hyperion of Après le Déluge: The Buddy Cole Monologues for the nice price of $10 (if you get tickets in advance). You can (and really should) snag ‘em over here.

The idea of a show about death and loss created and performed by modern day clowns might seem a little ridiculous, maybe diametrically opposed.

However, we’d say that death itself is a little ridiculous as it happens to us all, but none of us (NONE OF US) knows what happens afterwards.

It is this hardline contrast that us living folks have to deal with and is, consequently, the absurdity that Amrita Dhaliwal and Gemma Soldati, two modern clowns (perhaps even delightfully postmodern?) so beautifully created their show The Living Room around (and make grief a little easier to handle).

We’ve seen this show develop in 2018 and we thoroughly enjoyed the journey, almost free of space and time, that we were taken on, laughing the whole way through.

Go get your tickets for next week’s performances here.

Dave Mizzoni and Matt Rogers are bringing their hit NYC game show GAYME SHOW! back to LA again, this time to the Satellite in Silverlake.

For the uninitiated, Mizzoni and Rogers have straight contestants go through a gauntlet of trivia and challenges that test their knowledge of LGBTQIA+ culture (they’ll have experts to help them along the way in the forms of “Woman Who Gets It and a Wise Queer”).

Of corx, you need to be in attendance on Wed. Mar. 13th at 8:30PM at The Satellite LA. Tickets are $12-$15 and you can (and should) get them here.

The extreme friendship comedy troupe identified as Power Violence (AKA Whitmer Thomas, Clay Tatum, and Budd Diaz) will be putting on their very last show as a group next Sunday at The Satellite (as well as celebrating their 8th anniversary).

While we’re all waiting for their silly comedy swan song to arrive, take time to reflect on Power Violence’s journey from moshing and TPing the stage over at The Complex to open every show to making some of the best, unabashedly fun videos around to becoming the power (pun intended?) comedy trio they are now.

The full line-up has yet to be announced, but we hear it’s pretty damn special.

Tickets is $8, but, as always, comedians get in free at this show. Get the tickets here.

let me know if you need anything, lizzy cooperman, silverlake, solo show

Lizzy Cooperman was one of the first comedians that we saw and redefined what we thought comedy could be.

Normally, a brilliant punk rock-ish absurdist comedian whose short jokes hit as hard as she bangs her keyboard after her punchlines, Lizzy takes a turn towards telling the story of getting stricken with a mysterious disease and having her whole life changed because of it. We just this show last week, definitely “felt all the feelings”, and was, yet again, amazed with Lizzy Cooperman.

She’s doing another performance tomorrow night at the Lyric Hyperion on Tue., Nov. 20th at 10PM. Tickets are $10 and please go get them here.
