It probably won’t make up for the wall-to-wall news coverage and the anxiety that you’ve been feeling for months now, but Colbert will be cursing on Showtime with Patton Oswalt, Larry Wilmore, Jeff Goldblum, Jena Friedman, and Nick Offerman as guests and both The Daily Show and @midnight will go on live tonight.

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah LIVE 8PM PST on Comedy Central
Stephen Colbert’s Live Election Night: Democracy’s Series Finale: Who’s Going to Clean Up This Sh*t? 8PM PST on Showtime
@midnight with Chris Hardwick LIVE 9PM PST
Desus & Mero Live Election Special 11PM PST on Viceland

Until then, you can enjoy The Chris Gethard Election Special on MNN or The Weather Channel’s Chill Marathon starting at noon.

Stephen Colbert’s Live Election Night: Democracy’s Series Finale: Who’s Going to Clean Up This Sh*t? To Replay on Friday’s Late Show on CBS

Wouldn’t it be amazing if CBS had to bleep and blur most of it?

For the significant niche segment of late night viewers that don’t have access to Showtime and want to watch stuff through legal means, the election night special that Stephen Colbert is doing on the premium cable network will play on CBS in place of the normally scheduled episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert at 11:35PM this Friday.

So, if you don’t watch any of the clips that will very probably appear online and don’t read any of the coverage of what Colbert will do for a few days, you’ll get to see it with completely fresh eyes at the end of the week. This probably means you’ll have to not know how won the election until Friday as well.

You can always count on Stephen Colbert for catchy titles.

The live election day special that Stephen Colbert will be hosting over at Showtime, as opposed to The Late Show over at CBS, will begin at 8PM PDT on Election Day Tuesday, November 8th.

This very first promo is a hint that Colbert will be definitely making use of the lack of censors.

For this TV special, Bert Kreischer is in the relative safety of stage at a theater during a stand-up taping as opposed all the other crazy things that reality TV has made him do.

That being said, he stays on brand in this promo with taking his shirt off.

Bert Kreishcher: The Machine premieres on Showtime on Friday, November 11th.

Aasif Mandvi Developing Dark Comedy ‘Fatwa’ at Showtime with Writer/Producer Dave Holstein

It’s about time someone made an entire dark comedy series about cartoonists who get death threats for certain cartoons that cross certain religious lines.

Aasif Mandvi and Dave Holstein, who Mandvi worked with on The Brink, are developing the dark comedy Fatwa over at Showtime that will focus entirely on that and have Mandvi star.

It should be a nice follow-up to the last series that Mandvi got top-billing in, Halal in the Family.

Taran Killam Starring In and Craig Johnson Directing/EP’ing Showtime Comedy Pilot “Mating”

The vague, well-trodden premise a man re-entering the world of modern dating might just get enough intrigue from the guiding hand of the director and co-writer of The Skeleton Twins and Taran Killam getting top billing.

Also, this will be an anthology series that might end up going head-to-head with HBO’s anthology comedy series from The Duplass Brothers.

Showtime Orders Frankie Shaw Comedy Pilot ‘SMILF’ Based on Her Short Film | Deadline

Among other great moves that Showtime is making right now, one is giving a Frankie Shaw a pilot order for SMILF (acronym for Single Mother I’d Like To F*ck) based on her critically acclaimed short film of the same name.

SMILF follows Shaw’s life as a young single mother who still wants to follow all of her desires, but has to balance them with the reality of having a son on her own.

If this goes to series (and we hope it does), it will be intriguing to see this side-by-side with FX’s single mother dramedy, Better Things.

Stephen Colbert Will Cover Election Night Live on Showtime Instead of Late Show on CBS

Stephen Colbert Will Cover Election Night Live on Showtime Instead of Late Show on CBS

That’s right, Stephen Colbert will get to take a night to go from network to premium cable to cover election night live in November as the results come in. It’s an interesting move that might prove useful to building the reputation of The Late Show under Stephen Colbert as Stephen will probably get to flex his satirical muscles a little more, if not a lot, on Showtime.

You should definitely expect Stephen Colbert to make use of the fact that he’s on Showtime rather than CBS (i.e. letting expletives fly freely).

It may just be an election year, but it does seem like Stephen is doing a lot of live episodes lately and benefitting from it.

So, this round of SXSW Comedy will premiere on Friday, July 15th with Natasha Leggero, Baron Vaughn, James Adomian, and Andrew Santino.

Get a taste of it with this teaser.

10PM on Showtime and 11PM on IFC respectively.

Showtime’s latest hour long stand-up special will come in the form of Ben Gleib: Neurotic Gangster. You might know Ben as the host of Idiotest on the Game Show Network, but he happens to be a skilled stand-up comedian as well.

After that, season 5 of Comedy Bang! Bang!, the TV series, on IFC will premiere its 5th season, which just happens to also be the first season that that musical parody king Weird Al Yankovic will serve as bandleader next to host Scott Aukerman.

Showtime Is Developing Moshe Kasher and Zach Cregger Pot Dealer Comedy, Produced by The Russo Brothers

A spiritual successor to Showtime’s Weeds, perhaps?

Showtime’s latest comedy project in development follows a family of pot dealers who have to get their act together and look to their straight edge son when the sale of marijuana becomes legal in their state. Comedy about selling weed has worked well for Showtime before, so why not do it again?

This half hour sitcom comes from the great minds of comedian Moshe Kasher and Zach Cregger, who we’d hope you know from the Whitest Kids U Know.

The Russo Brothers (yes, the same ones who are behind many Marvel Cinematic Universe hits) have attached themselves to produce.

Making a comedy about selling pot legally has been really popular over the last few pilot seasons and we wouldn’t be surprised if this project would be the one that gets the greenlight.

W. Kamau Bell’s Showtime Special “Semi-Prominent Negro” Premieres Tonight

10PM on Showtime.

Last week, W. Kamau Bell had the premiere of his CNN series, United Shades of America. This week, Bell continues his big return to TV with a brand new hour stand-up special on Showtime called Semi-Prominent Negro.

At least this week, he’ll be in the safety of a theater as opposed to hanging with KKK without a total idea of what might happen.

Showtime Adapting Ingrid Jungermann’s Web Series “F to 7th” for TV

This might be one of the more intriguing things on Showtime’s development slate in quite some time.

Ingrid Jungermann’s F to 7th web series was such a well-crafted dramedy with a unique perspective that questions gender identity and sexuality that it definitely falls in league with the likes of Transparent. It managed to do so as independent web series as opposed to being a full fledged television show.

That’s all changing now as Showtime is developing F to 7th to potentially be their next comedy series and we can’t wait to see what Jungermann might get to do with a slot on Showtime.

W. Kamau Bell Has His CNN Series and a Showtime Special Premiering This Month

Clear out 10PM on both April 24th and April 29th.

Next week will be a big one for W. Kamau Bell as his brand new exploratory series of discriminatory subcultures, United Shades of America, and a brand new Morgan Spurlock directed comedy special, Semi-Prominent Negro, are both premiering.

More specifically…

United Shades of America will premiere on CNN on Sunday, April 24th at 10PM
Semi-Prominent Negro will premiere on Showtime on Friday, April 29th at 10PM

Bell’s last series, Totally Biased on FX/FXx, came to an end far too early (especially with the popularity of shows like Full Frontal and Last Week Tonight) and both his new show and special should be well worth catching.

You can hear Bell chat about both with Trevor Noah from last week’s Daily Show here.

The stories of so many podcasts might just be getting recreated.

The 70s LA comedy scene series I’m Dying Up Here (written by Dave Flebotte based on a book by William Knoedelseder that Carrey attached himself to) is now getting added to the Showtime line-up.

So, you’ll get to see the LA comedy scene the last time it was the hot bed of comedy, some 40 years ago.

Accomplished actors and comedians will mix in the cast including Melissa Leo, Ari Graynor, Erik Griffin, Jon Daly, Armen Weitzman, Clark Duke, Michael Angarano, RJ Cycler, Alfred Molina, Al Madrigal, Stephen Guarino and more.

Since it’s only based on real life, we can only ponder what they’ll be calling The Comedy Store instead of The Comedy Store.

Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead is the documentary that follows the outrageous rises and falls of National Lampoon through the decades and it’s set to premiere on Showtime on Jan. 22nd.

Following their two-part SXSW Comedy special, Showtime has got another comedy special that you should be on the look out for from Jermaine Fowler.

Give’em Hell Kid will be Jermaine’s first hour special and will also feature one-on-one interviews from those closest to Jermaine, which should be a whole bunch of fun considering how much Jermaine talks about his family in his act.

Here’s a teaser. After that, look for its premiere on Fri. Dec. 11th at 9PM on Showtime.

…Robert Forster, Cathy Moriarty, Al Madrigal, RJ Cycler, Erik Griffin, and Stephen Guarino are all set for the comedy pilot that Jim Carrey has in development over at Showtime.

With the backdrop of the 1970s Los Angeles comedy scene, it’s good to see a mix of veteran actors and actual stand-up comedians currently based in LA.

We can only hope that gets picked up, so we’ll all be able to see what Carrey and writer Dave Flebotte have up their sleeve.

Showtime Finally Picks Up Cameron Crowe’s “Roadies” to Series

(via Deadline)

Despite a major casting change and a shift to an hour long format, Cameron Crowe’s Roadies is going to see the light of a slot on Showtime’s programming schedule.

It seems like it has been quite awhile since Crowe embarked on making a TV show even though it has only been a year since it was announced that he was doing a comedy based on the lives of ‘roadies’ at Showtime.

Now, Carla Gugino will fill in the lead role originally occupied by Christina Hendricks and the show itself will be an hour long workplace-ish comedy that sees big rock concerts through the eyes of those literally setting the stage.

We’ll get to see exactly what Crowe has cooked up in 2016.

Apparently, there was too much to pack into just one special’s worth of stand-up for Showtime’s SXSW Comedy, so they made two nights worth of it with host W. Kamau Bell.

This time around, Todd Glass, Rachel Feinstein, Joe DeRosa, and more cause a ruckus of laughter down in Austin, TX.

Here’s a look into what’s to come for Night Two.

Look for the premiere on Showtime on Fri Oct. 2nd.

Showtime Developing 80s NYC Restauranteur Dark Comedy from Alan Cumming, “Florent”

(via Deadline)

Along with the Jim Carrey 70s LA comedy scene project, Showtime seems to be getting into period pieces right now.

HBO has got enjoy a plethora of critical and commercial success with their comedies as of late with Veep, Silicon Valley, and Girls. We can only imagine that Showtime wants to join more in the premium cable comedy boom, probably prompting some really interesting projects that they’ve put in development.

NYC’s Meatpacking district in the 80s will be the setting for a project entitled Florent from Alan Cumming. It follows a period of real life restauranteur Florent Morellet wherein he opened a french restaurant in the aforementioned district, known for the crazy melting pot of people that crowded around it.

It’s really early in the process, but there are a lot of good ingredients at work here.

If you haven’t committed the name Jermaine Fowler to memory yet, you’ll end up doing that soon with what he has in the works.

Not that it’s a surprise to us, but Jermaine Fowler has got a lot of great irons in great fires.

An hour comedy special, Jermaine Fowler: Give ‘Em Hell Kid, that mixes stand-up and interviews with family and friends is coming to Showtime in mid December. On top of that, Jermaine is developing a semi-autobiographical multi-cam sitcom following his very young parents trying to raise him and the rest of his family.

In case you haven’t noticed, another era of shows based on the lives of comedians is riding high right now.
