Marc Maron To Interview President Barack Obama on WTF

June 18, 2015

Literally speaking, Marc probably won’t be able to lock the gates.

Announced on the latest episode of WTF with Marc Maron, Marc has an interview with President Barack Obama set and will post it on Monday. Of course, Obama is in town for fundraising purposes, but we definitely hope that Marc goes through Obama’s fantastic White House Correspondents Dinner sets over the years.

Knowing this is supposed to take place reportedly sometime tomorrow at Maron’s garage, LA’s Eastside will finally get a taste of that Obama traffic.

The Black List and Paul Scheer Are Teaming Up For a New Podcast

This has nothing to do with James Spader or spies (well, at least the ones that are on NBC).

As you very well know, so few original scripts get the shine that movies that are adapted from a book, tv show, children’s toy, app, etc. these days. That’s why it’s great that such a thing as The Black List that showcases the best in unproduced screenplays.

So, as it is still hard to make those movies and show them to a wide audience, Paul Scheer and The Black List are now collaborating on a podcast where the episodes are based on those featured unproduced screenplays.

With Scheer involved, there’s probably going to be a bit of heightening involved, but we’re more than looking forward to what most of Hollywood is missing out on being presented in audio form.

This new podcast premieres Thurs. on Wolfpop.

One would think that with 26-season-and-counting run and a cemented status as a legendary show, not just within the animated comedy genre, but among the entire TV canon, The Simpsons would have be the spark behind more podcasts.

After all, we can’t even count how many podcasts there are about just professional wrestling.

We could only find a couple of random Simpsons focused podcast before today.

Luckily, Simpsons superfans and comedians Allie Goertz and Julia Prescott have started the Everything’s Coming Up Podcast where they will chat with comics, writers, animators etc. about their favorite episode of The Simpsons.

The first episode is already up and you can follow Everything Coming Up Podcast on Facebook and Twitter.

David Dineen-Porter Makes His Own, Crazy RPG Rules on “Party of Four” Podcast

While there are certainly great podcasts where comedians play Dungeons and Dragons like Nerd Poker and Harmontown, David Dineen-Porter, one of the 100 Best Things In Comedy We Were Witness To In No Particular Order of 2014, has started a podcast, Party of 4, that involves comedians in a Role Playing Game, but done according to the whims of Dineen-Porter.

If you know David at all, those whims are pretty out there and also pretty hilarious.

So, if you want to hear how a D&D session would go with every character and rule completely made-up out of the imagination of an absurdist comedian, Party of 4 is for you.

2014 LA Podcast Festival Recap: Podcasts Take Over Beverly Hills

This is both the third year of The LA Podcast Festival as well as our third time attending and, as that’s the case, we can most certainly assure you a good thing has only gotten better and better.

Here’s our recap of what went down when a bunch podcasts and their fans take over ritzy Beverly Hills.

All photos courtesy of Los Angeles Podcast Festival

-This was the first year that the LA Podcast Festival took place at Sofitel LA in Beverly Hills and it solved pretty much every drawback from their original location in Santa Monica (i.e. parking, navigating through the festival, it looks nicer).

-Many in the crowd for Talkin’ Shit with Eddie Ifft were thoroughly surprised when they got to see all of transgendered porn star Vaniity.

image

–Marc Maron and Aisha Tyler hashed out some personal history, specifically when they first met each other, on Girl on Guy. Aisha hilariously made sure to note to Marc that this is her show and not WTF.

-Like every year, one will note that many of the attendees aren’t from LA or even California. Many come from the other side of the country just to make sure they catch their favorite podcast live like The Crabfeast with Jay Larson and Ryan Sickler.

image

–Superego continued to be one of the funniest podcasts around kicking off Day 2 with a special guest in Conan player Brian Stack and a whirlwind of fun, dark absurdity. We also applaud their matching Superego blazers.

-The crowd at Jonah Raydio had a ball as Jonah Ray made sure that his entire audience had a beer in their hand, treated to a live performance from Upset, fun music news monologue style jokes, and discovered he had to do more time than he expected. This lead to some of the best awful concert stories we’ve heard in awhile.

–Dave Anthony, Gareth Reynolds, and Wil Anderson assembled for a laugh riot of an episode of The Dollop, which we’d describe as a sort of sober version of Drunk History that replaces the reenactments with top shelf riffing from Anthony, Reynolds, and a guest. Edutainment about history’s biggest a-holes has never been as much fun as this.

-An all female guest line-up for WTF with Marc Maron was fascinating especially the likes of Pamela Adlon and Whitney Cummings admired Shelby Fero’s wisdom beyond her years when it comes to dating.

-Podcasts fans at the festival didn’t care how long they would have to wait to get commemorative posters signed to the point where we questioned how much we’re fans of podcasts compared to them.

image

–Wil Anderson killed it wherever he went at the festival and his own podcast TOFOP was no different. Anderson’s brand of somewhat controlled chaos made for almost non-stop laughs and an unforgettable pop quiz on Russell Crowe facts.

-As far as we’ve seen education hasn’t ever been as funny as it has been on podcasts. See Probably Science’s Matt Kirshen, Jesse Case, and Andy Wood riff on the primates known as Bonobos with Tim Minchin and Dr. Amy Parish. They found their way to tie in feminism while discussing animal behavior and on to applause breaks.

image

–Matt Besser, Lauren Lapkus, Ian Roberts, and Horatio Sanz ensured that impov4humans was a perennial favorite of the festival just off a scene of visiting the world’s tallest hill.

-Podcast pioneer Jimmy Pardo and his podcast Never Not Funny have been at The LA Podcast Festival most deservedly every single year. Seeing Jimmy having to deal with Pat Francis’ Bruce Springsteen puppet made for a pretty magical evening on its own.

–Go Bayside! and James Bonding are perfect examples of podcasts that celebrate the “nerding out” of a very specific topic, in these cases Saved By The Bell and Agent 007 James Bond, but also very inviting to the uninitiated. April Richardson and Matt Mira/Matt Gourley make a case for enjoying both cultural institutions even if you don’t know who Mr. Belding or the worst Bond villain henchmen are.

–Todd Glass and James Adomian were electric during The Todd Glass Show. Dueling Todd Glass impressions (yes, Todd did an impression of James doing an impression of Todd) were a highlight, but only the tip of the iceberg. We’re convinced that Glass has mastered only letting the audience kind of know what’s happening, but ultimately not caring because they’re having so much damn fun.

–The Kira Soltanovich Show made for an insightful, funny look into parenting not unlike a bunch of parents having drinks and pondering if they’re raising their kid right or not except all the parents are really funny.

If you happened to miss all this glorious podcast goodness, then there’s a livestream video archive of the festival available up until Oct. 19th.

Keep in mind we can only send one guy out to cover all of this so there are only so many things we could make it to and obviously we missed some stuff. Maybe next time, you can go to the LA Podcast Festival yourself and not miss anything.

Kumail Nanjiani Launches a Podcast Solely Focusing on The X-Files, The X-Files Files

Feral Audio adds another great comedian and podcast to their roster in Kumail Nanjiani’s brand new X-Files Files. As you might guess, Kumail breaks down every episode of the X-Files with a guest.

Already we’re hooked on the idea, but this is even better if you’ve heard Kumail’s joke about his love/hate relationship with the X-Files.

Sean O’Connor and Zach Sims Launch Podcast About Google Results of Guests’ Names

The Boogie-Woogie Google Boys is a brand new podcast from the very funny Sean O’Connor and Zach Sims where they Google the name of their guests and discuss what comes up in the fraction of a second it takes for it to come up. While most comedians do dominated their own name on Google, there’s a lot of fun, weird, bizarre stuff when you get to pages 2 or 3 or further.

The first episode is with the amazing Emily Heller and should check it out/give it a listen.

The Westside Comedy Theater Launching Its Own Comedy Podcast Network

Whether the dust is still being rustled up or clearing from the comedy podcast boom is unsure, but the model of gathering podcasts under the umbrella of a network seems to be a worthwhile path for the medium right now.

Next week, Santa Monica’s Westside Comedy Theater is starting its very own podcast network with many really funny comedians that have made their way through the LA comedy scene over the last few years including: Rob Gleeson, Mr. Goodnight, Tom Sibley, Josh Covitt, Chase Bernstein, Tushar Singh, Neel Nanda and more.

They’re having a free launch party next week on Thurs. to meet all their new podcasters at 7PM if you’re curious (and we’re suggesting that you should be)

“The Cracked Podcast” will feature in depth chats between Cracked editors once a month with smaller episodes in the weeks between.

We’d be curious to see how many episodes will be arguments regarding the best/worst animals.

John Roy’s Podcast “Don’t Ever Change” Launches at Feral Audio

There are many sources where comedians get their material. None are as rich as the time when they went to high school. That’s why John Roy (you might recognize him from his newly released album Alexander Hamilton, which you should pick up) specifically digs into that with his brand new podcast just launched at Feral Audio, Don’t Ever Change.

Give it a listen, especially as the first guest is the hysterical Sean Patton who has plenty that he has dug from his years in HS.
