Pick of the Day: The Cooties Go Online 5/18

May 7, 2021
News
livestream, musical comedy, the cooties, virtual comedy

One of the best musical comedy groups working today (and, hell, in comedy, period), The Cooties are setting to ease our pandemic and world weary anxieties to rest for an hour or two with a show that’s “50% comedy, 50% concert, and 0% cooking competition.”

For several years, they have served up the most absurd songs with some of the best grooves and most beautiful harmonies in LA and around the country. Truly, they’ll transport you (as well as your toe that will be tapping to their songs) to a better, more fun place with their upcoming comedy live-stream, The Cooties Go Online.

This special, rambunctious evening of mirth and song will go live on Tues. May 18th at 6PM PT/9PM ET. Tickets are going at the nice price of $10 (plus service fee which makes it $11.62). Go get yours for The Cooties Go Online right now right here.

Pick of the Day: Comedy For People Who Hate Joe Rogan 5/6

May 3, 2021
News
Erica Switzer, livestream, michael furr, robin hazel, sophie connell, stand up comedy, subhah agarwal

So, Baltimore-based comedian Sophie Connell has had this recurring virtual stand-up showcase where she features, “four comedians from differing backgrounds.” There are plenty of virtual stand-ups that do feature diverse talent, but we this one just happens to have the timely name of Comedy for People Who Hate Joe Rogan.

Given his, at best, wishy-washy stance on the COVID-19 vaccine that caused national controversy as he expressed said stance on his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, one of the biggest podcasts around, comedy or otherwise (Spotify paid him $100 million to go exclusive with their streaming service).

So, this live-stream pushes for other voices that you might want to hear (including very funny guests Erica Switzer, Subhah Agarwal, and Baltimore-based comedians Michael Furr and Robin Hazel).

This latest edition of Comedy For People Who Hate Joe Rogan is set to go live on Thurs. May 6th at 5PM PT/8PM ET and is free to stream, if you RSVP here.

Pick of the Day: Super Horses, Wild Ego 4/19

News

Alright, OK, well, well, well… two of the best improv groups in comedy history are coming together for a very, very special, exclusive virtual performance presented by the wondrous Dynasty Typewriter.

The improvised comedy powers of Wild Horses (Lauren Lapkus, Stephanie Allynne, Mary Holland, and Erin Whitehead) and Superego (Jeremy Carter, Matt Gourley, Mark McConville, and Paul F. Tompkins) that truly do represent so much of the crème de la crème of improv comedy are becoming the portmanteau of Super Horses, Wild Ego for this special night on Mon. Apr. 19th at 5PM PT/8PM ET.

No matter what platform or wherever this would be happening, this is most certainly a comedy event not to be missed. Fortunately, you’ll be able to live-stream this from the comfort of wherever you’re comfortably (hopefully) not gathering. Best of all, tickets are only $5-$10. Best go get’em here.

Pick of the Day: Dr. Katz Live 1/24

January 19, 2021
News
dave attell, Dom Irrera, dr katz, jim gaffigan, jonathan katz, livestream, maria bamford, rushtix

This week, amongst so many, will very likely prove how much we all need therapy right now.

So, that’s the perfect time for another virtual edition of Dr. Katz LIVE.

The famed animated therapist (who has done live, non-animated performances over the last few years), Dr. Jonathan Katz, will be holding another round of sessions with the likes of Dave Attell, Maria Bamford, Jim Gaffigan, Dom Irrera along with H. Jon Benjamin as Ben and Laura Silverman reprising her role as Dr. Katz’s receptionist. Both for the “clients” and the audience, it should be a healing, hysterical experience.

This live-streamed edition of Dr. Katz LIVE is set for Sun. Jan. 24th at 5PM PT via Rushtix. Tickets are going for $20 and you can (and very much should) get them here.

Pick of the Day: Sex with Margaret Cho 2/14

January 8, 2021
News
livestream, margaret cho, rushtix, sex advice

You probably already know, but this upcoming Valentine’s Day will be unlike any other that we’ve had in our collective lifetimes. COVID-19 will very much be around on Feb. 14th and the emotionally crippling isolation and quarantine fatigue will be right there with it.

So, in lieu of the more traditional methods of celebrating this holiday popularized by a card company, we’ll have to look to virtual offerings and it just so happens that Margaret Cho will be doing an exclusive live-stream via RushTix that will be explicitly be Margaret’s sex advice. It may not be a romantic dinner at you and your significant other’s favorite restaurant, but a whole night of the finer points of sex as detailed by Cho could very likely, we think, to be just as fun.

Also, at $20, it’s probably more affordable than whatever you’d normally do on Valentine’s Day.

Cheekily called Sex With Margaret, the live-stream is set for 5PM PT/8PM ET on Sun. Feb. 14th. Get your tickets here.

Pick of the Day: First ‘Comedy Crossing’ of 2021 1/20

January 5, 2021
News
animal crossing, comedy crossing, jenny yang, livestream, stand up comedy

OK, we’re in 2021/a new month/a new week/just another day. It’s off to the races with all of that and, as such, we’d like to lift your spirits by reminding you one of the best live-streams to be born out of live comedy being forced to largely live online, Comedy Crossing, has another date set for Wed. Jan. 20th at 7PM PT/10PM ET.

Jenny Yang hosted the wild, wondrous, truly zany stand-up live-stream in the world of Animal Crossing all throughout 2020 and will do so again in 2021 (as live comedy is still pretty much going to be on pandemic hiatus for awhile). As always, the show accepts donations for very worthy causes and has gangbusters line-ups.

Go RSVP for tickets sooner rather than later here!

Pick of the Day: A Very Funches Christmas Show 12/5

November 3, 2020
News
comedy show, holiday comedy, livestream, ron funches, stand up comedy

An undeniable source of joy, something that we’re all in dire need for, especially today, is one Ron Funches. An evening of comedy with Funches is something that you can hang some hope on and look forward to and there will be one such night coming up.

A Very Funches Christmas Show will be another exclusive live-streamed show that Funches will be doing from a studio and pretty much feel like a real stand-up show (we saw Funches’ do this earlier this Summer and it was pretty damn great) and streamed on YouTube across the world.

As it’s a holiday show, there will be holiday songs and the sort of mirth and merriment that we could all use not only in December, but at any time in the world we currently live in.

A Very Funches Christmas Show is set to stream on Sun. Dec. 5th at 7PM PT/10PM ET and is only $10 for access to the live-stream (and $50 for a VIP show meet and greet). Please treat yourself and go get your tickets here.

Pick of the Day: Mike Birbiglia-Working It Out (Virtually) 10/22

September 25, 2020
News
livestream, mike birbiglia, stand up comedy

Mike Birbiglia is doing another special virtual evening where he’ll be “working it out”, though more just by himself than his brand new podcast of the same name. Birbiglia was already incredibly dedicated to the craft of comedy and has been pretty amazing showing his craftsmanship that has taken him to the rarefied air of performing on Broadway and around the country to sold out crows on a regular basis.

On, Thu. Oct. 22nd at 4:30PM PT/7:30PM ET, Birbiglia will be “going up” at the Nowhere Comedy Club to work it out live. Tickets are going for $15-$50 and go ON SALE on Wed. Sept. 30th at 9:55AM PT/12:55PM ET (they’ll very likely sell out fast). Make sure you get them quick.

Pick of the Day: Piff the Magic Dragon: Live from Las Vegas 7/24 & 7/31

July 14, 2020
News
city national grove of anaheim, comedy magic, livestream, piff the magic dragon

International comedy magic sensation Piff the Magic Dragon, one of the rare acts that can simultaneously give both kids and adults one hell of a show, will be doing three exclusive live shows this month, live-streamed directly from Las Vegas, presented by the City National Grove of Anaheim. He’ll be in his own home studio in Vegas (that’s plenty socially distant from whatever is going on The Strip) over Zoom and the show will be “interactive”, which is intriguing enough of itself to see what Piff has up his signature dragon costume.

Here’s a promo of what that actually might be:

Piff The Magic Dragon: Live From Las Vegas is set for July 24th at 7PM PT/10PM ET and July 31st 7PM PT/10PM ET & 9PM PT/ET. Tickets are $35.75 per device/household and you can (and should) go get tickets here.

Pick of the Day: Black Think Tank Comedy Revolution 6/20

June 15, 2020
News
anthony oakes, brittany carney, haywood turnipseed, jamon darnell, livestream, liz barlow, patrice deveaux

Of the comedy live-streams you can tune into right now at this time, one called Black Think Tank Comedy Revolution sounds like one that you should catch later this week.

The Black Think Tank comprised of Anthony Oakes, Patrice Deveaux, and Haywood Turnipseed is dedicated to “discuss Black content with Black content creators, providers, and consumers”. With that in mind, they’ll be featuring a handful of black comedians from across the nation that you should definitely be watching including Liz Barlow, Jamon Darnell, and Brittany Carney.

RSVP, then tune in at 5PM PT/8PM ET here. Donations will be accepted.

Hot Tub with Kurt & Kristen Is Back On! (via Livestream)

News
hot tub with kurt and kristen, livestream, stand up comedy

One of the pillars of LA comedy is the amazing, weekly Monday (mostly) stand-up show, Hot Tub with Kurt & Kristen. Of course, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to plenty of suspensions of live comedy shows across the board right now leading to a big wave of livestreaming, especially in the last week.

Thus, Hot Tub is joining in, starting tonight, on said wave, thankfully, at its same time, 8PM on Mondays with yet another fantastic line-up. In fact, it might be the first time that Hot Tub has ever done this and this might be the first live comedy show in LA to return via livestreaming.

This first livestreamed Hot Tub has a line-up of:

Ian Abramson
Dana Donnelly
Chris Garcia
Maya May
Caleb Synan
Sarah Tollemache
Nick Turner
Nick Ciarelli and Brad Evans

You’ll just have to watch it on Twitch at 8PM PDT/11PM EST. Tune in via Twitch here: http://bit.ly/hottubstream. Also, they’ll be taking donations during the show via Twitch, but you can donate to the comedians performing before the show here.

Leading up to their latest run of half-hour comedy specials for this year, Comedy Central is running back a score’s worth of stand-up featured on their network in a 24 hour livestream.

Starting tonight at Oct. 17th at 8PM PST, it ought to be one hell of a trip up through memory lane as you can see in this promo clip here.

If you’re into this 24 Hours of Stand Up, you can stream it here on Comedy Central Stand-Up’s YouTube Channel.

Comedy Sketch Group Butt Is Currently Doing a 12 Hour KISS-Themed Livestream to Promote Their Non-Kiss-Themed Show Next Month

Butt, the sketch comedy duo of Joe McAdam and Chris Stephens, are masters of being sublimely and hilariously daft.

In this spirit, they are promoting their upcoming show at Dynasty Typewriter on Sat. Feb. 9th at 10PM by doing a 12 hour livestream from 8AM PST-8PM PST that is themed around the classic rock band KISS.

Thus far, they’ve done a KISS cam on Hollywood Blvd., attempted to play KISS’ video game (yes, there is one), got a video of Bam Margera attempting to be Gene Simmons to promote the show, and try to figure the perfect way to get a shout out from Gene Simmons. Again, they’d like to reiterate that their live show will have nothing to do with KISS.

In short, it’s a pretty great way to have some beautiful absurdity and stupidity in your life for today.

So, watch the livestream on Twitter @buttguys here and go get tickets for their Feb. 9th in LA at Dynasty Typewriter at the Hayworth Theater show here.

Reggie Watts, Kate Berlant, and Rory Scovel Will Be Improvising Their Sitcom Crowe’s Nest via Livestream This Thursday

If you remember from Reggie Watts last special Spatial, there was a portion of it that included an abstract parody of a sitcom.

If you haven’t seen Spatial, stop reading and go watch it as it is an hour of pure Reggie in the best way possible.

So, this Thursday, thanks to Butcher Bird Studios, Reggie, Rory Scovel, and Kate Berlant will get to an extended version of them going around in the form of a traditional sitcom.

We have no idea what’s going to happen (as it will be fully improvised), but we’re sure that it will be tomfoolery of the highest degree and shouldn’t be missed.

You can catch it at https://www.youtube.com/reggiewatts at 9PM (with a “pre-show” at 8PM)

Chris Fleming Will Stream His Special “Showpig” on Facebook Live

Almost nobody does a comedy special and has broadcasted or streamed to people live. It’s such a risky thing to do and takes so much skill and comedic prowess that to even think about doing such a thing has been a rare occurrence. Brian Regan did do a live special for Comedy Central, but he is, after all, Brian Regan.

That being said, Chris Fleming is so unbelievably funny and such a dynamic performer, we believe that he can pull off livestreaming his special on Facebook Live. On Decemeber 21st at 6PM PST, Chris will be doing just that while taping his hour special Showpig from Chicago’s Thalia Hall.

You’ll be able to watch it on his FB page here: https://www.facebook.com/chrisflemingfleming/

Here’s a delicious taste of what’s to come and why you should set a reminder for Dec. 21st.

Bill Burr riffing on anything is worth the price of admission.

So, even if you’re not a football fan, it might peak your interest to know that Burr will be livestreaming him riffing on the AFC Wildcard Game this Sunday between the Miami Dolphins and the Pittsburgh Steelers from All Things Comedy Studios. This will include Bill’s thoughts on the commercials and everything else as well.

10AM on January 8th, you can watch Bill watch the game, which might be just as entertaining (or even more) entertaining than the game itself, here.

You can send your thanks to AT&T for this one.

One of the most talked about late night shows these days just happens to be one of the newest ones, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. Bee has been breaking down barriers on all levels with her show and doing so with joyful abandon.

Because of this, AT&T has partnered with the show to sponsor a Facebook livestream of the minutes to leading up to the actual taping. This’ll include the audience warm-up and Samantha Bee fielding questions.

Bee already pulls no punches during her show, so you probably, like us, wonder what she does off camera. Find out over here.

Laffster Now Streaming Live Comedy Shows and Offering Special Interactive Auctions

Some of you might have heard of a comedy tech start up in Laffster over the last several months and some of the unique things that they were trying to do as a comedy content distributor/aggregator.

Well, you might be interested to hear that they’re going into new territory by streaming live shows online such as a live taping of Walking the Room in addition to an accompanying interactive auction that would include, in this case, a personal 10 min. podcast ep. from Greg Behrendt and Dave Anthony or a personal phone call from Dave telling you to go fuck yourself, like a nice mix of Ustream and Kickstarter for comedy

They’ve already done similar special livestreams with the likes of Gina Yashere and Harvard Sailing Team and it might be something to look out for if you don’t live in LA or NYC and especially don’t have patience/money to go to a festival.
