HBO Orders “Brothers in Atlanta” To Series

The lives behind musicians and music moguls seem to be the order of the day.

Lorne Michaels has lent his name successfully as a producer to the music biz comedy Brothers in Atlanta that follows Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin try to make it in various disciplines of music in Atlanta.

There’s clearly a trend here as FX already has Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll ordered to series and the undeniable beast of a series that is Empire set numerous records in its freshman season.

The addition of Brothers in Atlanta also makes for an interesting quilt of HBO’s comedy line-up as HBO will now have comedies poking fun at Washington D.C., Silicon Valley, and now Atlanta.

Now, all of this has us wondering what’s going on with Donald Glover’s similar sounding series ordered as a pilot at FX.

So, Silicon Valley’s “Pied Piper” Is Hiring?

April 30, 2015
Uncategorized
hbo, now hiring, pied piper, silicon valley

Apparently, they’re looking to fill very legit sound positions for the company featured on the fictional show.

A few days ago, the Pied Piper site, an extension of the company that HBO’s Silicon Valley is centered around, got updated with some company profiles and more as, per the show’s storyline of bringing a new investor, they’ve got some dough to spend on upgrading Pied Piper.

So, if you’re a Core Compression Library Engineer, API Developer, Unit Tester, or a Video Hacker, Pied Piper is looking for you.

This might be an elaborate joke featuring a bunch of tech nomenclature or, perhaps, Silicon Valley is looking for more consultants to make sure their jokes are logically sound from a tech standpoint. We don’t have any details beyond the job listing.

Even still, maybe they’re going to build a real Pied Piper?

Forget imitating. Life might just becoming art in this case.

“High Maintenance” Headed To HBO For 6 Episodes

April 20, 2015

If you’ve seen posters for High Maintenance lately, you might have read that it’s one of the best shows not on television.

That’s about to change.

Hit indie web series High Maintenance, which had been leading the charge on Vimeo’s Vimeo On Demand platform, is now getting bumped up to HBO for 6 episodes.

It’s the latest series to expand from the web to actually being broadcast on TV like Broad City, The Chris Gethard Show, This Is Not Happening with Ari Shaffir, etc.

Extra points go to HBO for announcing it appropriately on 4/20.

“The Simpsons” Will Have All The Girls From “Girls” Guest Star

It’s not going to be a crossover episode, but we’d surprise if there weren’t any nods or references to HBO’s Girls in the upcoming episode.

Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet, and Jemima Kirke will all stay together like they do on Girls in an episode of The Simpsons where they all are guest starring.

The separation between their Girls characters and these characters only seems to be that Dunham’s character will be a pharmacist and they’re in Springfield and not Brooklyn.

After this, anyone think that there will be an episode of Girls where, at the very least, this episode of The Simpsons will be playing in the background?

HBO Renews Both “Silicon Valley” and “Veep” For Another Season

The season premieres were last night and season renewals were ordered today. If only that happened more often on TV.

There indeed will be a season 3 of Silicon Valley and a season 5 of Veep coming to HBO even though the second and fourth seasons, respectively, have just started.

For those of that you don’t have an HBO subscription, HBO Now looks even more tempting, doesn’t it?

Yes, there is more than just Game of Thrones tonight.

Following Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley and Veep have their season premieres tonight starting at 10PM and 10:30PM on HBO respectively making for one of the best hour blocks of comedy on television.

Do note that this is the last season that Veep’s creator Armando Iannucci will be at the helm and that this is only Silicon Valley’s second season after getting all the accolades as a freshman series.

So, again, don’t miss out.

Here’s The First Teaser For HBO’s “The Brink”

With Armando Iannucci’s exit announced today, the release of this teaser seems perfectly timed.

HBO’s new comedy series geopolitical crisis comedy The Brink starring Jack Black and Tim Robbins has just gotten its first teaser today. As it deals with politics on an international level, it might pair nicely to Veep.

We’ll see exactly how that plays out on the Brink’s premiere on Jun. 21st at 10:30PM on HBO.

Armando Iannucci Set to Leave “Veep”

Curb Your Enthusiasm’s David Mandel will be taking the reins upon Iannucci’s exit.

With family back home in London and an itch to do more movies, Armando Iannucci is stepping down from his own series Veep after four stellar seasons.

We can only hope this will go notably better than what happened in season 4 of Community and that maybe Iannucci will give British intelligence agencies another course on comedy in his spare time.

HBO’s Silicon Valley has some “unique” fans.

Season 2 of Silicon Valley is just right around the corner with the premiere set for this Sunday Apr. 12th at 10PM on HBO.

To get us all excited, cast members Zach Woods, Thomas Middleditch, Martin Starr, and Kumail Nanjiani answered some “fan mail” (there’s a real liberal use of the word “fan” here).

Watch it here and take note how to not ask TV series cast members questions.

Not only is the whole Pied Piper gang back, but they’ll be duking it out with Richard’s former boss still from the confines of a house rather than a sleek office building. Just watch and enjoy in this trailer.

The stage is set perfectly for season 2 of Silicon Valley, which will premiere on Sun. Apr. 12th at 10PM on HBO.

Late Night with Seth Meyers has some fun with Lena Dunham the same way they did with The Newsroom last year.

Dunham takes on her Girls’ role as Hannah Horvath and sees if the writers’ room at Late Night is a good fit for her. Notice how she wouldn’t be OK with it being the other way around and seeing if she is a good fit with everyone else.

If HBO Now, a standalone online streaming service that would offer up an entire HBO library as well as episodes of their current programming slate that includes Girls, Silicon Valley, Veep, Togetherness, and more, came out next in a few weeks at $15 a month, we can only wonder how many people would still be using the password of a friend or a family member.

Either way, we think a whole bunch more people will be watching HBO legally beyond the first episode that they put on YouTube for a limited time..

John Oliver and Last Week Tonight continue their great weekly dissection of topics that aren’t really covered in comedy or covered in a way that most people would want to watch to be entertained.

This week, Oliver takes on infrastructure and how important it is we maintain it.  With an action movie parody, a Cosby joke, and more, you’ll probably never be more into infrastructure ever after watching this.

Continuing in the direction of making the landscape of television less male and white, both NBC and HBO have just announced programs designed to find diverse talent.

More specifically, NBC has partnered with the legendary Second City to find new sketch talent (via The Wrap) in the form of fellowships, scholarship awards, and a festival. Hopefully, this will help them avoid such things as having to hold a “secret” audition for a new black female cast member for SNL.

HBO has launched their own HBOAccess Writing Fellowship that will search for unrepresented writers from “diverse backgrounds” (via Deadline). If accepted, you’ll get a week long intensive, 8 months writing/development period with HBO top brass, and a live table read. With Girls, Silicon Valley, Veep, The Comeback, and Togetherness, we’re HBO would like to continue their hot comedy streak.

For those of you that had thought that John Oliver was going to possibly leave Last Week Tonight to replace Jon Stewart later this year at The Daily Show, you obviously aren’t aware of how good Oliver has it over at HBO and how much HBO is into Oliver.

Today, that was all made clear by HBO announcing that two 35 episode seasons of Last Week Tonight have been ordered that will air in 2016 and 2017 separately.

Aside from possibly narrowing your list on who is coming to The Daily Show desk, rejoice in the fact that will have almost three more years of Oliver at his own desk doing stuff like this week’s takedown of Big Tobacco.
