There are other things on TV besides the return of True Detective tonight and one of them doesn’t require you to change the channel.

Tim Robbins and Jack Black delve into the absurdities of geopolitical snafus on HBO’s latest comedy series The Brink starting at 10:30PM on HBO.

The televised special for this year’s Peabody Awards premieres at 9PM on Pivot and you can see what hijinks host Fred Armisen got himself into as well as that kiss between Tina Fey and Amy Schumer and more.

Amongst those at THR’s table are Fred Armisen…

Bill Hader and Fred Armisen seemingly get to live out a fantasy of playing characters throughout real life inspired fake historical documentary shorts in the series Documentary Now! that they developed with Seth Meyers.

Watch the trailer featuring Hader and Armisen dressed up in plenty of wonderfully outlandish costumes as wonderfully outlandish characters, then tune into the premiere on IFC on Aug. 20th at 10PM.

Helen Mirren To Host Faux-Documentary IFC Show “Documentary Now!”

(via EW)

We can’t wait to see what Hader, Armisen, and Meyers get a former Queen Elizabeth to say.

Helen Mirren is set to host the parody documentary series created by Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, and Seth Meyers called Documentary Now! coming to IFC on Aug. 20th.

We wonder if this will take her down more comedic roads, more roles like she’s had in Red, if this really clicks.

Here Are New Music Videos From Jenny Lewis and Mikal Cronin That Feature Many of Your Favorite Comedy Folks

Yesterday, Jenny Lewis and Mikal Cronin released their music videos for “She’s Not Me” and “Say”, respectively, that offer more evidence that music videos are on their way back and are more than just bands in different clothes playing in front of different back drops.

In Lewis’ She’s Not Me, Vanessa Bayer, Zosia Mamet, Fred Armisen, and more semi-recreate Jenny’s past as a former child actress.

Mikal Cronin enlists the help of Kurt Braunohler, Jonah Ray, Allan McLeod, Nick Thune, and Nelson Franklin to be in his video for Say, though he may have spoke too soon (pun absolutely intended).

Along with JASH’s 5K music video series and any music video Tom Scharpling directs, maybe we don’t need MTV to play music videos ever again.

Fred Armisen/Bill Hader/Seth Meyers’ “Documentary Now!” Faux Docu-Series Coming to IFC

An Al Capone Festival in Iceland, the first documentary about the Inuit, drug cartels, a band called Blue Jean Committee, are just a few “subjects” they’ll be covering.

The minds of Armisen, Hader, and Meyers have banded together to make up fake history of which to do documentaries about. The series, which has been ordered for six episodes at IFC, is appropriately called Documentary Now!

Fred and Bill will star in the series donning a plethora of costumes and accents.

Look for Documentary Now! on IFC starting Thurs. Aug. 20th at 10PM.

Fred Armisen Has Joined  “Zoolander 2″

This definitely tops the other recent casting announcements.

Thus far, Zoolander 2 has Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson returning in their roles, but they also have Billy Zane who appeared in a cameo returning as well as the additions of Kristen Wiig and Penelope Cruz.

Now, Fred Armisen is in the mix according to Ben Stiller and his Instagram’s.

We don’t know what character he’s playing, but we can definitely see him perhaps as someone avenging the defeat of Mugatu or the son of the evil DJ.

Add another thing to the amazing set of things that Fred Armisen is juggling including bandleader at Late Night with Seth Meyers, doing Portlandia.

The prestigious Peabody Awards that honor excellence in broadcasting in all forms is now getting an overhaul that will include the ceremony being televised on Pivot and hosted by none other than Fred Armisen.

Armisen already has awards hosting experience under his belt, most recently with The Spirit Awards. The special that will make it to air will not be live, so we wonder if Armisen will have even more up his sleeve.

The Film Independent Spirit Awards has been hosted by the likes of Patton Oswalt and Seth Rogen. They’re staying the wheelhouse with hosts as they’ve just landed Kristen Bell and Fred Armisen to oversee the awards ceremonies.

Maybe, if we’re lucky, Bell will have to handle a sloth and Armisen will have to go head-to-head in an impression off with Bill Hader.

The Spirit Awards will air live on Feb. 21st at 2PM on IFC.

You can sort of see where a lot of the great tension in certain sketches is built just from their conversation on national television. Watch it here.

Over 6 years ago, Largo was not the gorgeous theatre that you see at The Coronet these days. It was an even smaller venue with a bar in Fairfax Village here in LA.

However, even back then, a mix of some of the best comedians and innovative musicians and singers all came together under the roof of Largo to play.

In 2008, a concert film was released of the old Largo with the likes of Fred Armisen, Fiona Apple, Greg Behrendt, Paul F. Tompkins, Elliott Smith, Sarah Silverman, Greg Proops, Sarah Silverman, Flight of the Conchords, Patton Oswalt, Louis CK, Zach Galifianakis, Aimee Mann, Andrew Bird, and more all performing.

Now, it’s online for you to enjoy on Vimeo in beautiful black and white. Watch LARGO here.

While on The Late Show with David Letterman this week, Jerry Seinfeld announced the premiere date of the brand new season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.

Come Nov. 6th, Seinfeld will unveil new episodes with new cars with the likes of Fred Armisen, Jimmy Fallon, and more. An episode of Joan Rivers was planned, but, as you well know, she passed away less than a month ago.

Also, note that this will be the 5th season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, which makes us wonder if Jerry will keep this show running as long as the 9 seasons of Seinfeld.

IFC’s biggest series are getting into production for their latest seasons and, of course, they have quite the guest star list.

Pitchfork reports that a nice roster of bands will be featured on Comedy Bang! Bang! including The National, Lonely Island, Future Islands, and The Flaming Lips. Presumably, there will be some great jamming between them and Comedy Bang! Bang’s band leader Reggie Watts.

Splitsider has found through Carrie Brownstein’s Instagram that Natasha Lyonne, Jeff Goldblum, and Jane Lynch, amongst others will join Fred Armisen and Carrie in Portlandia.

So, we can’t wait for the premiere of either of these.
