Bill Murray to Sell His One of a Kind Bill Murray Stories as NFTs

March 24, 2022
News
bill murray, nft

(via THR)

While the questions of how NFTs will become a long term new revenue stream for artists and performers has yet to be figured out, the current fluid nature of a non-fungible token allows it to be a cornucopia of things that can be used and exchanged in a myriad of ways. Nothing is set in stone yet allowing for folks like comedy legend Bill Murray to reimagine how they could be used.

In Murray’s case, he is going to use NFTs to be the vehicle for the plethora of carpe-diem-driven stories that Murray has amassed over the decades. Specifically, the NFT sold will have a Bill Murray story “minted” with it and will thus be unique to that NFT and tied to the blockchain as well. So, in this particular instance, it would seem the NFT is the actual item that you’re buying as opposed to operating more like a certificate of authenticity.

Murray’s stories, which don’t seem to be too far off from the sort of lives lead by various characters played by Bill Murray in Wes Anderson movies, are the sort of unique property that might lend itself pretty well to an all digital exchange (especially if you’re someone who hasn’t run into Murray at a bar, minor league baseball game, poetry night, or a taxi cab that he happens to be driving within your life time).

As to how this will go and will it be applicable for, perhaps, bits of an exclusive hour of comedy, we can only hope that we find out sooner rather than later.

Yes, it is The Comedy Bureau Field Report’s 100th Episode. This podcast started at the beginning of the pandemic and the pandemic has been going on this damn long. That said, it’s quite the milestone and, as such, we have Yemi Afolabi, a comedian who TCB’s Jake Kroeger started out with back at the turn of the decade to the 2010s, who has had an astounding journey himself going from finding himself in some corner of comedy in LA to gaining real heat doing stand-up in Sweden (often in Swedish/English hybrid known as Swenglish) and then coming back to NYC to focus in on climbing the ladder in the endlessly competitive NYC comedy scene.

Yemi talks all about that and more as well as “hot” takes on Aziz Ansari/Bill Murray’s latest feature project, the passing of Amazing Jonathan, and more.

Sofia Coppola Taps Bill Murray Once More and Rashida Jones for Latest, “On The Rocks”

August 19, 2020
News
a24, apple original, bill murray, on the rocks, rashida jones, sofia coppola, trailer

One of Sofia Coppola’s breakout works in her filmography is Lost in Translation that also ended being one of the more iconic roles for Murray following a career of iconic roles. Thusly, it wouldn’t be the only the twain should collaborate on something. Coppola ended up doing a Christmas special a few years ago centered around Bill Murray, A Very Murray Christmas, which was a definite departure from Murray wandering as one of the most famous people in the world in Tokyo. Now, Coppola’s latest film, On The Rocks, pairs Bill Murray with Rashida Jones for a father-daughter dramedy that follows a marriage between Jones and Marlon Wayans that might be exemplary of the title.

From the trailer, it would seem that there’s some sort of continuation of some spiritual/emotional arc of Murray’s Bob Harris from Lost In Translation with Murray’s role here; a quest for redemption via preventing similar mistakes that he made with love from happening again. It might be far fetched to call it a spiritual sequel, but it’s undeniable that there’s a niche that both Coppola and Murray fill in for each other. Throwing the comedic nuances of Rashida Jones and Damon Wayans (seemingly in more low key role than usual) makes for an atypical love triangle we’d really like to see.

Look for yourself in the trailer here.

On The Rocks is set to come out on Apple TV + in October.

The Dead Don’t Die Trailer Is Here and This Jim Jarmusch Zombie Movie Looks Pretty Damn Fun

We had musings about what a “Jim Jarmusch zombie movie” might be and, we’ve got to say, thankfully, the trailer for The Dead Don’t Die hits pretty close to what we’re expecting.

Great looks and quips from Bill Murray, a samurai sword wiedling Tilda Swinton, a down-to-earth Adam Driver doing his best, Iggy Pop as a zombie, and, of course, a great soundtrack has our appetite whetted even further.

Get a look for yourself here, then mark your calendars for June 14th when The Dead Don’t Die hits theaters.

Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray Meet Up Once Again for ‘On The Rocks’ Co-Starring Rashida Jones, Which Will Also Be the First Apple x A24 Film

Not only is this the first non-Christmas-special reunion of the winning Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray combo, but On The Rocks will very likely be the first prestige picture coming from the company that makes iPhones.

Everything here is lined up for this to be a sure bet with Coppola, Murray, Rashida Jones, and a premise that seems like a spiritual sequel to Lost In Translation (maybe we’ll finally figure out what Murray said to Scarlett Johansson?) that also might tap into that legendary mythos of Bill Murray himself:

The movie follows a young mother who reconnects with her larger than life playboy father on an adventure through New York.  Rashida Jones will star with Murray. Production starts this spring in New York.

We’ll keep a close eye out for trailer to see how sure of a bet Apple and prestige film factory A24 are taking.

Bill Murray Will Be Bartending at His Son’s Bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

“Suntory Time”, anyone?

Though false rumors about the next public appearance of Bill Murray have been spread in the past, the possibility of getting dragged into a night with Bill Murray in it is still great to imagine.

This Friday and Saturday, it’s being said that Murray will be tending bar at his son Homer’s bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Unfortunately, it’s a guest list only sort of night, so you’ll probably have to enjoy seeing whatever actually takes place on social media. Well, that actually all depends on whether Bill Murray will even allow for that to happen as so many Bill Murray stories that we’ve heard do involve no pictures or video being taken.

Don’t let that stop your imagination from running wild and thinking of another young couple receiving advice on getting hitched from Murray.

The Martin Shkreli-Wu Tang Clan-Bill Murray Saga Is Getting Its Own Comedic Musical

July 11, 2016

(via The Creators Project)

Based on a mostly true story.

One of the more insane stories in recent memory is how the Wu Tang Clan put up a single copy of their new album for auction and it was bought, at great expense, by Martin Shrkeli, one of the most hated people on the Internet. A clause of this sale, which turned out to be a hoax, includes provisions for a single attempt of the Wu Tang Clan and Bill Murray to steal the album back.

As that story is just too captivating to be left untrue, musical team Lauren Gundrum and Joel Esher have decided to bring this whole story to life in ‘a musical’ with all of its true and untrue parts. Apparently, Shkreli has even offered to play himself.

One of the funniest parts of this whole endeavor is that Gundrum and Esher’ indiegogo campaign to raise funds for this project includes a $2 million reward that allows the musical to be shut down for good a la Shkreli’s $2 million buy of the Wu Tang Clan’s singular album.

Bill Murray to Receive Mark Train Prize for Humor

Can’t wait to see what outfit(s), Murray will choose to sport at his acceptance ceremony.

The Mark Twain Prize for Humor, one of the highest honors in comedy, has got its next recipient in Bill Murray. The living legend has not only made his name through movies and TV for decades, but seem to make an entire mythos of himself by just randomly popping into strangers’ lives and bringing some unforgettable absurdity into their lives.

That seems fitting of receiving of this award

Murray is set to receive the award on Sunday, October 23rd.

Bill Murray Will Be in Wes Anderson’s Stop Motion Animation Dog Movie Because It Would Be a Little Weird If He Wasn’t, Right?

Per usual, Wes Anderson is rounding up his usual suspects of Hollywood’s most celebrated.

Already, Bryan Cranston, Jeff Goldblum, Bob Balaban, and Edward Norton are in Wes Anderson’s latest film, which will be made with stop motion animation and focused in on dogs. If that wasn’t already alluring enough to the Wes Anderson faithful, Bill Murray will be a voicing dog in a story that Murray describes as “Japanese”.

At this point, we’d wager that Wes wouldn’t have to make a trailer for people to see this movie.

Classy decor, formal attire, flowing libations, musical numbers, and Sofia Coppola are things that we’d guess would figure into a Christmas party that Bill Murray would throw.

Also, George Clooney, Jason Schwartzman, Chris Rock, Amy Poehler, Miley Cyrus, Michael Cera, Maya Rudolph, Paul Shaffer, and Rashida Jones might be in attendance.

So, why should the Christmas special A Very Murray Christmas be any different than that? Answer: It shouldn’t.

Watch this latest teaser to see what we mean, then look for the special on Netflix come Dec. 4th.

As there is supposedly no connection to the original films, odds are he’s going to be someone besides Venkman.

In any case, Bill Murray making an appearance in the all female Ghostbusters directed by Paul Feig will undoubtedly be a highlight, both for the fact that he’s an original Ghostbuster and he’ll probably have a cameo not unlike the one he had in Zombieland.

One can only ponder if there is hope again for a return as Venkman in another Ghostbusters movie.

He quipped, he philosophized, he waxed poetic, and pretty much gave fans what they were looking for. You can almost imagine it as a deleted scene from Lost in Translation.

While you’re curiosity might be still aflutter as to what Bill Murray and Sofia Coppola have cooked up for A Very Murray Christmas, you’ll have another Murray vehicle to look forward this year in the Barry Levinson directed/Mitch Glazer written Rock The Kasbah.

Letterman Does “Top Ten Things I’ve Always Wanted To Say To David Letterman” and Says His Final Goodbye to “The Late Show”

After over a month of tributes and farewells, David Letterman kept his send-off relatively short and sweet.

There was a star-studded Top Ten List of Things I’ve Always Wanted To Say To David Letterman that included Bill Murray, Steve Martin, Tina Fey, Peyton Manning, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Jim Carrey, as well as a special performance of “Everlong” by The Foo Fighters.

There was also a nice opening bit from various Presidents.

Outside of that, Dave respectfully spent much his time delving into nostalgia and thanking all of the folks that have been a part of his show over 30 years.

There was even a “day in the life” montage of what Dave goes through with his staff.

With over 30 years and 6000+ shows logged, it’s amazing that Letterman is still self-deprecating in his final remarks.

Just like that, just a little past midnight last night. The Late Show with David Letterman and an entire era of comedy comes to a close.

You can watch the entire finale here.

Of course, Dave also made sure to send his best wishes to the new guy, Stephen Colbert.

Speaking of which, does anyone have a countdown going for Sept. 8th?

Watch Bill Murray, Letterman’s First Guest, Be Letterman’s Final Guest

In 1982, Late Night with David Letterman premiered on NBC with Bill Murray as the first guest.

Ever since, Murray has been one of the most memorable guests through Letterman’s career and it was only fitting that the last guest that Dave interviewed would be Bill.

While there was a retrospective portion of Bill’s segment, there was, of course, hijinks involving a giant cake and starting a flash mob.

If you’re thinking the comedy is going to be pretty much focused on Dave Letterman today, you’re right on the money.

Tom Hanks and Bill Murray Will Be Final Guests on Letterman Before Finale

May 15, 2015
Uncategorized

(via The Hollywood Reporter/Entertainment Weekly)

Of course the final guests are Tom Hanks and Bill Murray.

The finale episode of The Late Show with David Letterman doesn’t have a line-up of guests, which we guess is to keep us all in suspense as to whether Dave will have a big star-studded salutation to late night as is customary or do something else altogether.

Still, the two days leading up to Wed. May 20th are sure to have plenty of moments that will be memorable for years to come with Hanks and Murray, two of the best late night guests that ever were. There will also be musical performances from Eddie Vedder and Bob Dylan.

Hanks and Vedder will be on Monday night’s show and Murray and Dylan on Tuesday.

Any takers on what Murray will be wearing in his final appearance or if he might take a jackhammer to the stage again?

Bill Murray and Sofia Coppola Christmas Special Will Follow Murray Avoiding Getting Representation and Will Have Clooney, Poehler, Etc.

So, that Christmas special that will star Bill Murray and be directed by Sofia Coppola is coming together.

First off, Murray will play himself as will George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and more. Then, eschewing more traditional holiday tropes in the majority of Christmas specials, the story will center on Bill avoiding by someone signing him as his representation in what we can only assume to be a Lost In Translation-esque romp through LA.

So, we were already on board for this and now, we’re even more on board if that’s possible.

No word on where this will end up, but we’re thinking HBO, AMC, IFC, FX, Netflix, Amazon, etc.

The Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special was the gigantic, nostalgic whirlwind of a walk down Studio 8H that we were led to believe it was.

Cast members, hosts, writers, etc. from the show in 1975 until now were in attendance to pay homage to SNL not only as a show, but a cultural institution.

There was a big ol’ musical revue kicked off by Martin Short and Maya Rudolph as Beyonce, Weekend Update anchored by Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Jane Curtin, a touching In Memoriam tribute (that also has a pretty great burn at the end), and rare glimpses into auditions of SNL cast members as well as some folks that should have been cast members like Stephen Colbert.

Also, SNL’s Celebrity Jeopardy lived once more, complete with Darrell Hammond as Sean Connery and Norm MacDonald as Burt Reynolds,  and was every bit as glorious during its run in the late 90’s through the 2000s.

It should come as no surprise that this special scored a record 23 million viewers from last night (via Variety) and will probably have millions watching several of the clips over at Hulu and YouTube.

With all of the reminiscing of seasons past, it’s perfect timing on SNL’s part to push their SNL app that gives access to thousands of clips from the past 40 seasons.

If you didn’t catch the special last night, hopefully you’ll have today off to catch up.
