Please Get and Enjoy Barbara Gray’s Fantastic Debut Album “If I Did It”

June 25, 2021
News
ast records, barbara gray, comedy album, stand up

Barbara Gray has been a favorite of ours for so long here in LA seeing her play almost every spot we can possibly imagine in town. Gray’s unapologetic love for the absurd and also her very own, very personal truth makes for sets that had us howling with laughter for years. This debut album, If I Did It, most certainly captures Barbara’s wild playfulness on stage and her candor in such a pitch perfect way.

Recorded in Salt Lake City, Barbara takes everyone on a rollicking ride through this hour and is so present that it almost feels like you’re there to witness her marvelous blend of vulnerability and silliness (ex. there’s a great bit of narration that’s not unlike one for a nature documentary for a very specific ‘humping the stool’ bit).

With live comedy seeming to coming back around the country and being on the precipice of summer, Barbara’s If I Did It might be the perfect album for this very moment with how it jolts us to the wonder of just how damn fun live comedy can be.

So, please go get/listen to If I Did It now, fresh off the presses from AST Records.

Whether Babs Gray is killing it in the world of podcasts (Lady to Lady and Britney’s Gram) or being a long standing staple in the LA comedy scene or bringing her silliness to the masses across the country, Babs has been a favorite of ours for years.

Thus, we would highly urge you to go check her out doing her own show Babs Gray Does: Babs Do It at the Lyric Hyperion (even if she’s playing coy with exactly what’s going to happen in said show). Go get tickets for Babs Gray Does: Babs Do It, which Babs says are “$4.20 and 80 cents” here.

The somewhat controlled chaos of Late Late Breakfast is finally back with more hysterical, insane challenges for LA favorites in stand-up to attempt while doing their sets.

Hosts Tyler Jackson and Danny Maupin will be at Lyric Hyperion in Silverlake this time around on Sat. Jul. 20th at 4PM. Tickets are only $5 for what is truly a beautifully bonkers experience.

Please go get tickets here.

First off, there’s a National Cartoonist Society Festival happening down in Huntington Beach this month. Already, that’s something that should highly peak your interest as it will be a big shindig for comics and cartoons (plus a zombie walk).

On top of that, there will be one of our favorite concept shows, Picture This!, down in the OC for a special free, pop-up show in, perhaps, the perfect setting

They’ve got many of their favorites and stalwarts of the show coming down from LA to Huntington Beach and it’s your chance to see if you’ve avoided making the trek to The Virgil in Silverlake over the last few years.

We got to see this extremely fun show, Dungeon, awhile ago and it really has stand-up comedians taking the reins to a streamlined version of Dungeons & Dragons. More often than not, that means they play for what might be funnier rather than what’s prudent and wise on their quest.

John-Michael Bond hosts as a Dungeon Master and really blends stand-up and D&D almost seamlessly with this show. This latest edition this Sunday, July 30th will feature a great line-up of Jordan Temple, Kaseem Bentley, Jordan Doll, Barbara Gray and Christine Medrano.

“Burn This Election” Will Be a 2016 Election Themed Comedy Album Supporting RAINN (Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network)

There’s so much to love about this project called Burn This Election.

It’s a comedy album that will be recorded in a house featuring some of LA’s best comedians including Jackie Kashian, Dave Ross, Sean Keane, Kate Willett, and way more spitting fire, comedically, about this year’s election with all of the proceeds going to support the largest anti-sexual violence organization in the country, RAINN.

Yes, they did pick that group in response to the words and actions of Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump.

We’re guessing that you’ll rarely get to see comedy delivered with such urgency in the intimacy of a house. Also, the album is set to drop on Election Day, which should be a nice palate cleanser to this nightmare of an election cycle.

The taping of the album will be hosted by Brandie Posey and is set for next week in a house in Hollywood on Wednesday, November 2nd at 8:30PM. Admission is free, but they’ll also be taking donations for RAINN as well.
