Leslie Knope and Ron Swans–, Er, Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman Will Be Hosting a Competitive Crafts Show on NBC

Sure, they’ll be hosting as themselves and not their respective roles on Parks and Recreation.

That being said, The Handmade Project, just sounds like a sequel to the season 4 episode where Leslie and Ron had competing youth programs.

Also, Amy’s Paper Kite Productions will be handling this series, which, in addition to  makes us believe that it’ll be much different from other competitive reality shows.

Dark Musical Comedy Series Loosely Based on John Roberts’ Life Being Developed by Universal and Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite for HBO

There are so many great ingredients that are at work here. Called Edison, this project seems to lean towards Roberts taking the bubbly musical elements that he gets to play with on Bob’s Burgers and bringing them into a live action world with the sandbox that HBO allows and the latitude that a dark comedy bent brings.

Oh, we should mention that Roberts’ Bob’s Burgers co-star H. Jon Benjamin is co-writing and also executive producing this project too.

Excited for this possibly being HBO’s next comedy yet?

ABC Orders Pilot of Multi Cam Sitcom “Household Name” Starring Carol Burnett and Produced by Amy Poehler

A family moves into their dream house that just happens to come with a larger than life actress played by none other than living comedy legend Carol Burnett.

The project called, “Household Name” just got a pilot order from ABC, but with Burnett and Poehler involved and broadcast networks still looking for the next big multi cam, it would be hard to imagine this not getting a series greenlight.

ABC Developing Sitcom Starring Carol Burnett That Amy Poehler Is Executive Producing

Burnett and Poelher working together on anything could almost be good to be a whole pitch for show.

Living comedy legend Carol Burnett (and for how much the term “legend” is thrown around these days in comedy, it should noted that Burnett is a legitimate comedy legend) is aiming to return to TV. This multi cam project will star her as an eccentric old actress that allows a family to live in their dream home/her house so long as they live with her until she passes. Amy Poehler and her Paper Kite Productions have been attached in the executive producing capacity, undoubtedly giving this show’s development path instantly have more heat.

At this stage, ABC has made a put pilot commitment requiring a monetary penalty if they don’t air the pilot. Given Poehler’s involvement, we are intensely curious to see how Carol Burnett will be plugged into a 21st century sitcom and if it’ll be as charming as when Burnett had her own show with her own name in the title.

With all of that said, we’re getting a kind of PG-retooling-of-the-classic-drama-Sunset-Boulevard vibe. Hopefully, that’ll prove to be a good thing.

Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite Renews Deal at Universal Television

(via Variety)

Quietly, Amy Poehler has become as powerful behind the camera as she is in front of it.

Amy Poehler’s production company, Paper Kite, had signed an overall deal two years ago and just re-upped with NBC Universal’s Universal Television.

Earlier this week, there was a first look deal made with Universal Cable Productions and the Upright Citizens Brigade, which Amy is a founding member of.

All of this means that Poehler’s reach to develop shows and content could potentially extend across the entirety of NBC Universal’s television portfolio from broadcast to cable to digital. That’s a pretty rare position to be in as far as we’re aware of.

Now that we think about it, Amy may be more powerful behind the camera these days.

UCB Signs First Look Deal with Universal Cable Productions

This is one of UCB’s biggest deals yet.

Throughout movies and television, you can see the influence that the Upright Citizens Brigade has had on comedy over the last several years. Not only are founders Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Matt Walsh, and Ian Roberts doing well for themselves, but the alumni of the UCB brand are probably in all of your favorite things to watch or maybe running them from behind the scenes.

Now, with signing a first look deal with NBC Universal’s Universal Cable Productions, you’re going to see even more of UCB folk on TV. Shows for the vast array of cable networks under NBC Universal’s banner (including USA, Oxygen, Esquire, E!, Bravo, Telemundo, and many more) will be developed by UCB.

Already they’ve got five shows in the works ranging from a haunted house mockumentary to an overwrought satire of a sorority house to a TV adaptation of We Can Fix You featuring the likes of Besser, Roberts, Jeff Hiller, Pam Murphy, Betsy Sodaro, Horatio Sanz, Laura Grey, Megan Stein, and more.

Female Israeli Army Workplace Comedy “Zero Motivation” Is Being Adapted for TV at BBC America

Between this and G.L.O.W., there’s a great, new wave of female-led comedies forming.

Last year, Talya Lavie put herself on Hollywood’s map with an Office-esque comedy feature, Zero Motivation, that was set on an Israeli army base.

This year, Amy Poehler, Natasha Lyonne, Tami Sagher, and more are lending their pull as producers to adapt this into a series over at BBC America.

As BBC America is trying something new under the relatively new leadership of President and General Manager Sarah Barnett, we think they’re started off in a good direction.

So, everyone will be slightly closer to their real age this time around.

Next year, Netflix will release 8 episodes of Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later with David Wain and Michael Showalter back at the helm.

Here are the campers themselves to tell you this is really happening.

There are no details on how much or if all the cast is coming back and what might happen. However, we’d guess that they’ll probably be able to get most of the cast back considering that they were able to do it before.

NBC Orders Pilots From Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones

Sometimes, we wonder why Parks and Recreation just didn’t get spin-offs.

The Amy Poehler-produced project, written by Charlie Grandy, that has been in development at NBC, Crown Prince, and now has gotten a pilot order in addition to a pilot order of a multicam, Good Fortune, produced by Rashida Jones and written by Craig Gerard and Matt Zinman.

The shows will focus on a prince trying to  running a family business, but doing so chaotically, and a very rigid woman that starts to take the advice of a fortune teller, respectively.

In addition to Poehler and Jones, Parks and Recreation showrunner Mike Schur already has a series ordered at NBC, which gives us some hope for the revival of the network’s comedy branding this year.

Often times, when a man remarries, he goes for a woman that is younger, perhaps so much younger that it’s kind of ridiculous.

So, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler highlighted that point on last night’s SNL with a new, innovative, somehow omniscient game show, Meet Your Second Wife.

You can also watch Sisters, now in theaters. There’s probably something else that they’re secretly working on, but you’ll make to due with a movie and an episode of SNL.

While Star Wars: The Force Awakens is poised to break every box office record known to man this weekend, it is still legal, as Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have been saying, to see both Sisters and Star Wars in the same weekend.

To hit that point home, the entire cast of Sisters including Ike Barinholtz, Rachel Dratch, and Maya Rudolph on top of Tina and Amy as well as writer Paula Pell went on Late Night with Seth Meyers and voiced various Star Wars action figures to say why you should go see Sisters.

Indeed, they do make a great case for seeing both.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are continuing the uphill battle of having their movie, Sisters, open on the same weekend as Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Enlisting Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer to be in a faux promo that really should be another movie all on its own (because who wouldn’t want to go see a movie with Abbi, Ilana, Tina, and Amy?) is definitely a good move.

Watch it here.

Louis C.K., Amy Poehler, Wyatt Cenac, & More Get Nominations for 2016 Grammys

Uncategorized

It’s interesting to note that all the nominated comedy albums were album versions of comedy specials.

Out of the 83 categories that The Grammys span, two categories always have comedy offerings: Best Spoken Word Album and Best Comedy Album.

This year, the comedy nominees are:

BEST SPOKEN WORD ALBUM (INCLUDES POETRY, AUDIO BOOKS & STORYTELLING)
Brief Encounters: Conversations, Magic Moments, And Assorted Hijinks-Dick Cavett (Macmillan Audio)
Yes Please-Amy Poehler & Various Artists (Harper Audio)

BEST COMEDY ALBUM
Back To The Drawing Board-Lisa Lampanelli (Comedy Dynamics)
Brooklyn-Wyatt Cenac (Other Music Recording)
Happy. And A Lot.-Jay Mohr (Lolflix Inc.)
Just Being Honest-Craig Ferguson (Lionsgate Records)
Live At Madison Square Garden-Louis C.K. (Comedy Dynamics)

As mentioned above, each of the comedy album nominees are albums derived from a comedy special that was released or aired over the last year or so. That hasn’t always been the case, but there are a lot of lower profile albums that were so great that didn’t have the benefit of having a televised special to accompany it like Mary Mack’s Pig Woman. That’s not to say someone like C.K. isn’t deserving of a nomination, but we just wish there was a wider seeming scope in the field of nominees.

Hopefully, that’ll change in the coming years even if they have to add another category or two.

This year has been a good one for comedy on The Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Dick Gregory, Will Ferrell, and Melissa McCarthy all got their name encased by a star on the world famous Hollywood Walk of Fame earlier in 2015.

Now, the absolutely deserving Amy Poehler has gotten her star on the Walk of Fame following what has been a blisteringly great time for her career. Whether it be Parks and Recreation, The Golden Globes, Smart Girls, Broad City, and more, Poehler has made a wonderful mark on Hollywood and we’ve all been the better for it. Honestly, we can only imagine that Amy’s getting a star now because she’s been too busy to go through the process to get one.

The ceremony took place yesterday, so now you can go on Hollywood Blvd. and find it.

On Dec. 18th, both Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the latest Tina Fey and Amy Poehler offering, Sisters, roll out into theaters nationwide. Fey and Poehler are obviously worried that an original film might not have the draw of the return of Star Wars, so they made this Star Wars-tinged featurette that encourages you to watch at least two movies that weekend before Christmas.

Actually, so many of the opening day tickets, over $50 million worth of them, for Star Wars have been sold out already. So, odds are that you probably have little conflict on what you want to see on the weekend of Dec. 18th.

Also, George Clooney, Jason Schwartzman, Chris Rock, Amy Poehler, Miley Cyrus, Michael Cera, Maya Rudolph, Paul Shaffer, and Rashida Jones might be in attendance.

It might just get to the point where you’ll hear Amy Poehler’s name in the executive producer side of things as much as you would with sitcom power brokers Bill Lawrence or Chuck Lorre.

She’s already got Broad City and Difficult People on the resume of her Paper Kite Productions and two recent pilot commitments bump her up to three pilots total for Paper Kite this pilot season alone. Jordan Roter and Nisha Ganatra have put pilot commitments under the Paper Kite banner, respectively, for Aunt Jill at ABC and Pre-Madonna at NBC. Roter’s Aunt Jill will star Mo Collins, who many will remember as Parks and Recreation’s Joan Callamezzo.

This is on top of her still being on screen and having her online brand Smart Girls. If you already though Poehler was a force to be reckoned with, take note that she’s now just going ahead and reckoning with the biz.
