Woody Allen’s latest work, Crisis in Six Scenes, should prove to be one of Amazon’s biggest gets yet.

What the series is and what it’s about has been largely kept under wraps until today when the trailer was released.

Continuing his fondness for stories of the past, Allen puts himself in the midst of the social upheaval of the 1960s, which will undoubtedly invite parallel comparisons to the social upheaval of today.

Watch the trailer here, then look for the series to start streaming on Friday, September 30th.

Tig Notaro has done so many versions of her story from when she was struck down with breast cancer, C Diff, a break-up, and her mother dying including a comedy album, documentary, and a book.

Now, she can add the fictionalized version of that story in the form of her TV show One Mississippi to that list and you can stream it right now over at Amazon.

Here’s the Trailer for Amazon’s Latest UK Import “Fleabag”

Amazon seems to have had plenty of success with being the exclusive U.S. streaming service for the critically acclaimed Catastrophe, which airs months before it comes stateside in the UK.

With that in mind, Fleabag from Phoebe Waller-Bridge will follow the same model as it has already premiered on BBC3 last month and will start streaming here in the U.S. on Friday, September 16th on Amazon Prime.

The series centers on Waller-Bridge as Fleabag, “an unfiltered, dry-witted woman who hurls herself at modern living in London as she deals with the loss of her best friend, a breakup, and financial troubles at her café.” You might be delighted to know that Olivia Colman as well as American comedy star Brett Gelman are in the cast as well.

Trailer for Tig Notaro’s “One Mississippi” on Amazon Brings the Dry Humor of Her Tragedy to Life

If you’re into comedy at all, odds are you’ve probably heard Tig Notaro’s story of tragedies followed by tragedies and living through it by now. At the very least, we hope you’ve heard her landmark comedy album Live (pronounced as the verb).

This particular portion of Tig’s life riddled with heartbreak, disease, and death was the subject of the aforementioned album, a book, a documentary, and now this TV series coming to Amazon, One Mississippi.

The very first trailer for the show has just arrived and you can see how Tig’s singularly dry, unflinchingly honest sense of humor runs through her show.

If you’re hooked or an admirer of anything and everything that Tig does, look for episodes of One Mississippi to start streaming on Amazon Prime on Friday, September 9th.

Transparent, seemingly one of the crown jewels of Amazon’s programming line-up, is about to get into its third season after its first two were groundbreaking, accolade-filled, and awards-decorated.

The trailer for season 3 shows no signs of slowing down in Jill Soloway’s that expertly paints with all the colors and simultaneously putting a lens on changing the idea of what gender and sexuality can be.

Look for the season 3 of Transparent to start streaming on Amazon Prime on Friday, September 23rd.

Woody Allen’s Amazon Series “Crisis in Six Scenes” Releases First Preview Clip

Making a TV show that will be streaming exclusively on Amazon is indeed new, uncharted territory for Woody Allen.

However, this first clip of Crisis in Six Scenes shows Allen himself is right in his neurotic, insecurity-ridden, comic form, perhaps better than in the trailers for Cafe Society.

We’ll get to see if the rest of the season 1 of Crisis in Six Scenes will be the same when it starts streaming on Amazon Prime on Friday, September 30th.

Catastrophe Renewed for Seasons 3 and 4 at UK’s Channel 4

There hasn’t be an official pick-up from Amazon where the series resides in the U.S., but we’d have a hard time imagining that wouldn’t happen for Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney’s critically acclaimed intercontinental hit.

Amazon Orders a 4th Season of Transparent Before 3rd Season Even Gets a Premiere Date

Uncategorized

It only makes sense that Amazon is continuing to back one of their biggest critical and commercial hits.

Of all of Amazon’s original series and movies, Jill Soloway’s Transparent is the winningest, most talked about, and, very likely, most watched series on Amazon’s exclusive streaming service.

The third season is in the works and premiere date has yet to be determined, but that hasn’t stopped Amazon for ordering another season, which they just announced today.

This also makes Transparent the most senior series in Amazon’s programming line-up as none of their other series have made it to 4 seasons yet.

Black-ish

You’ll have to wait to find out who ends up going home with a revered Peabody Award as the actual ceremony doesn’t happen until May 21st.

You’ve got a lot of comedy to stream for April.

In its first season, Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney’s Catastrophe received heaps of great press for being part of this new wave of grounded, sharp romantic comedy on television.

The second season has already had a run on the air in the UK and is, as of today, finally available stateside via Amazon.

We’re guessing that you probably have to get through binge watching a bunch of stuff right now in addition to this.

Peter Serafinowicz to Play “The Tick” in Amazon’s Reboot Pilot

Looks like Amazon has got their own set of reboots in the works to match Netflix.

Not only is The Tick being revived from being a cult favorite both as a cartoon and a live action show, but Amazon is having Peter Serafinowicz, a Brit whom you have seen in anything from Shaun of the Dead to Spy to Parks and Recreation to Guardians of the Galaxy to this pretty great dubbing of a Trump speech in posh and cockney accents, don the skin tight blue sight and likely delightfully utter, “Spoon!” a lot.

We are wondering when the reboot train might ever stop, but Serafinowicz as The Tick has definitely peaked our interest.

One of the shows pushing the wave of more grounded, dramatic romantic comedy on TV is Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan’s Catastrophe. The first season was incredibly well received and American audiences have been pining for the second season as it has already played in the UK.

Luckily, the new season isn’t that far away as episodes will start streaming on Friday, April 8th on Amazon.

For now, you can watch this trailer cut for us Yanks.

Jean-Claude Van Damme to Star in Amazon Action Comedy Pilot “Jean-Claude Van Johnson”

JCVD the series?

Well, not quite.

This Amazon action comedy pilot named Jean-Claude Van Johnson for the alter-ego gun-for-hire that Van Damme would play when he’s not busy being a martial arts movie superstar. It’s not quite as meta as JCVD where Van Damme had a existential crisis during a robbery.

Still, with Peter Atencio whose work you have enjoyed on Key & Peele and Last Man on Earth, the pilot will absolutely worth checking out when Amazon releases it.

Amazon Doubles Down on Jill Soloway and Orders “I Love Dick” Pilot

(via Deadline)

This is a good, common sense move by Amazon Studios.

Jill Soloway is responsible for a good percentage of Amazon’s critical acclaim from her series Transparent. So, it only stands to reason that the online giant would get her working on another project.

This time around, Soloway is adapting a 90s novel called I Love Dick by Chris Kraus, which follows a marriage unraveling, the birth of an artist, and an intriguing professor with the name Dick in the backdrop of Marfa, Texas.

It would seem that TV now has legitimate auteurs and they have more freedom than ever to do what they want because of a certain track record.

In keeping up with Netflix, Amazon is keeping both their original series and features slate running and this latest offering, Creative Control from Benjamin Dickinson and Micah Bloomberg, seems very intriguing.

The film follows how the implementation of VR and how it might get a little crazy and then some. Comedy fans might recognize Reggie Watts and Dan Gill who are in the ensemble cast.

Watch the trailer here, then look for it in theaters Mar. 11th.

Todd Solondz’s “Weiner-Dog” To Be Released by Amazon

(via Variety)

Let it be known that this is the year that streaming services are really putting their money down for festival films.

Last year, you hardly heard of Netflix and Amazon being the big buyers of something like Dope or Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl. This year, it’s a much different story. Streaming services are right up there at Sundance with the studios in bidding wars and getting some of the more high profile movies on the line-up.

Todd Solondz’s comedy, Weiner-Dog, that follows the lives changed by a dachshund and features Greta Gerwig got nabbed up by Amazon, but will be getting a theatrical release as well. The option between theatrical and home viewing will be nice considering Solondz’s niche, but loyal fan base from his other work like Welcome to the Dollhouse and Happiness.

This is probably just the start of Amazon’s shopping spree for festival films.

Elaine May and Miley Cyrus Join Cast of Woody Allen’s Amazon Series

Five years ago, who would have guessed that this headline would ever be a real thing or even be able to think it up?

Woody Allen’s foray into the world of streaming services is indeed going forward with his half-hour comedy that has got a six-episode order from Amazon. The addition of Elaine May, from the renowned comedy duo Nichols and May, and Miley Cyrus to the cast, alongside himself, further peaks our curiosity as to what Allen’s up to.

If he can see the great performance that he drew out of Andrew Dice Clay in Blue Jasmine, we’re intrigued to see what Allen will not only do with a TV series in 2016, but do so with this particular cast.

Just like Netflix has upped their content orders for next years, Amazon is smartly following suit.

Today, Amazon boosted up their upcoming comedy offering by not only renewing their 80s coming-of-age comedy, Red Oaks, from David Gordon Green, but ordered three of their comedy pilots to series.

One, Highston, has Chris Parnell and Marry Lynn Rajskub as parents to a kid played by Lewis Pullman who has celebrity friends that only he can see. The second one, One Mississippi is the high profile dramedy series based on the life of Tig Notaro with involvement from Louis C.K. and Diablo Cody. The third and final series ordered today was, Z: The Beginning of Everything, a comedy based on the whirlwind-turned-tornado of a romance between Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald and legendary author F. Scott Fitzgerald. Christina Ricci is set to lead and the series is written by Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin, both from The Killing, and directed by Tim Blake Nelson that you probably saw years ago in O Brother, Where Art Thou?

All in all, this new batch of comedy series that Amazon has will be very intriguing to see in how it stacks up to releases from Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming services.
