Gareth Reynolds Has a Great Hour on England, Weed, and Other Things with “England, Weed & The Rest”

May 12, 2023
News
all things comedy, comedy special, gareth reynolds, stand up comedy

While Gareth Reynolds has cemented himself as one of the riff-ers/podcasters around via co-hosting The Dollop, you ought to know that Reynolds is more than handy on stage with a mic and an arsenal of hilariously prickly observations, especially when it comes to his parents’ homeland, England.

Gareth’s latest hour, the very clear cut England, Weed & The Rest (i.e. his set list) is as straight-forward as the name of the special. It’s an hour of jokes of said topics, delivered marvelously in a deluge of masterful UK accents, masterful act outs, and very attuned crowd work. As such, the most surprising thing here is that sort of classical hour of stand-up, without any sort of dissection of the art of stand-up or dramedy-laced narrative, still can and does work in 2023.

Please enjoy Reynolds AKA “Limaguafth” and his hour England, Weed & The Rest, now streaming on YouTube courtesy of All Things Comedy here.

Pick of the Day: Eddie Pepitone (Virtually Headlining)

September 3, 2020
News
all things comedy, eddie pepitone

Eddie Pepitone’s latest special For The Masses is, for our money, still one of the very best hours of comedy this year. It’s a testament to trying to catch him whenever you can, no matter when, where, or which virtual platform he’s using.

Eddie has been continuing his Live From the Bunker series on IG Live, but the chance to see him headline is rather rare and, again, should not be missed whenever it comes around.

Luckily, you’ll get a chance to see Eddie virtually headline in what will be an international comedy stand-up show. The Comedy Club & BeComedy UK and All Things Comedy are all collaborating to bring an exclusive evening/afternoon of Pepitone with Stella Graham and Luca Capani featuring all across the pond.

This performance is set for Sun. Sept. 6th at 1PM PT/4PM ET/9PM BST and tickets are €11.50. You best get them here real quick.

97.9 The Rat Race, Our Favorite Dark Comedy Morning Zoo Radio Satire Podcast, Is Coming Back on All Things Comedy

News
979 the rat race, all things comedy, ben roy, beth hoyt, chris marrs, comedy podcast, morning zoo radio, satire

Of the send-ups of the so-called “morning zoo radio” that have existed in comedy over the last several years (and there are a fair amount as dealing with morning radio jocks is often the bane of comedians’ existence), 97.9 The Rat Race is absolutely one of our favorites. Ben Roy, Chris Marrs, and Beth Hoyt nail the voices and the problematic behaviors of such morning hosts between the trio of Donny D, Animal, and Tara and then take every episode to such a hysterically dark place that, for us at least, we kind of hoped a lot of “morning zoo radio” would stumble into.

The episodes would come out every now and again, but we’re so glad to hear that All Things Comedy is bringing 97.9 The Rat Race to their podcast network with whole brand new run of episodes starting Mon. Aug. 31st. So, go binge the original run of episodes of 97.9 The Rat Race on your favorite podcasting platform right before next Monday, so you can get ready to see how some dark secret gets uncovered after Turn The Beat Around gets played again.

RATS! The biggest story of 2020 has arrived! 97.9 is now under the corporate umbrella at i?audio, which means #DonnyD, Animal & Tara are moving to @allthingscomedy! New episodes begin 8/31… and never, ever stop! Details below! #RIPDinkums pic.twitter.com/9bgkNGp28g

Nate Craig Releases Hour Special Version of His Fantastic “Preferred Customer”

May 27, 2020
News
all things comedy, comedy special, nate craig, preferred customer

Nate Craig’s 2018 album Preferred Customer was one our favorite comedy albums of all 2018, which automatically put it in our 100 Best of 2018 list.

Not only is it a finely, finely sharpened hour of personal, observational stand-up that’s exceptionally delivered by Craig, but the extended opening to the hour, a special sort of greeting, is still something to behold, even two years later.

Just yesterday, Craig released via All Things Comedy the hour special version of Preferred Customer, shot live at Dynasty Typewriter,  so you can see Nate look as sharp as he is with his entire set list. In fact, for your convenience and delight, Nate put the whole thing on YouTube for you stream whenever you’d like, free of charge or borrowing anyone’s streaming service password.

Without further adieu, please enjoy Nate Craig: Preferred Customer here.

Comedy Central and All Things Comedy to Make a Patrice O’Neal Documentary

It’s curious to think of how Patrice O’Neal and his comedy would be handled in 2019 if he were still alive. One might jump to a conclusion that the revered comedian who passed away in 2011 might be crucified. However, O’Neal might have ended up like his contemporary Bill Burr whose last special Paper Tiger was received fairly positively for Burr’s extensive self-examination after a very contrarian opening. There’s no way to truly tell, but O’Neal will be held up as a comedy legend for years to come even with much of his controversial material.

The prospect of a Patrice O’Neal documentary examining his life and legacy is fascinating and we can’t wait to see it.

Ted Alexandro’s New Hour “Senior Class of Earth” Is a Finely Crafted Hour of Comedy in 2018

October 17, 2018
Uncategorized
800 pound gorilla, all things comedy, senior class of earth, stand up, ted alexandro

Due to the nature of showbiz and the instantaneous demand of something new, crafting an hour of comedy often is rushed and, consequently, ends up looking rushed. You’ll find that there’s no connective tissue between the material and the arc of tone and energy seem random at best.

Ted Alexandro’s Senior Class of Earth is a welcome break from all of that.

Ted Alexandro is a great comedian and an exemplary artisan of the form. He has done it before, but Ted shows again what a well crafted hour of stand-up can be (and can be for the world weary audiences of 2018) with Senior Class of Earth. As always, Ted is so perfectly laid back in this special/album with his performance that he can sail through choppy waters and keep the audience on board the whole time. That’s not so easy these days with the mere mention of a certain political figure or divisive topic freezing up comedy audiences immediately.

Here’s a trailer to get a taste of what we’re talking about.

So, we urge you to get and enjoy Senior Class of Earth, available now as a special from All Things Comedy and as an album from 800 Pound Gorilla.

It’s not part of the special, but Ted showed how very good he is at making the medicine go down with a spoonful of sugar in this recent set about Louis CK and Cosby.

Comedy Central Makes Deal with Bill Burr and Al Madrigal’s All Things Comedy to Produce Stand-up Series and Specials

The ATC umbrella will be responsible for Comedy Central’s next stand-up showcase series as well as three one-hour specials, one of which will be from Paul Virzi.

As Netflix is going toe-to-toe in stand-up offering versus Comedy Central and virtually any other channel, network, service, or outlet offering stand-up, we’ll be excited to see what Burr and Madrigal cook up with this deal over the next year or so.

Though All Things Comedy are still relatively new to releasing comedy albums, they have had good releases including ones from Nick Youssef, Sheng Wang, and, most recently, NYC’s Yannis Pappas.

Yannis’ recently released Let Me Be Yannis showcases his very honed comedy chops. Strong point-of-view, undeniable confidence, a range of voices and act outs, and ad libbing all come together nicely for Yannis. Also, his well structured material flows pretty well across a wide range of topics including gun control and destination weddings.

Get Let Me Be Yannis from iTunes now.

You might have recently seen Sheng Wang as one of the top 10 comics on the latest season of Last Comic Standing, but we would hope that you’ve come to know him from his various late night performances over the years and followed his stand-up very closely afterwards like we have.

If you have done so, you’d know that Sheng Wang exudes pure fun in his jokes as if you’re hearing the most clever DJ on the radio that doesn’t need to play music because his jokes are so good.

Wang’s debut album Cornucopias Are Actually Horrible Containers is a great example of what we’re talking about.

You can and should get it off of All Things Comedy here.

All Things Comedy has been a safe haven for many a great comedian to produce their own podcasts, albums, specials, and more for over a year.

They now wants to continue in that direction with their new studio, but they need funding for that to work in a away where they can stay completely 100% owned and operated independently by comedians.

So, they’re looking to raise $10,000 by Nov. 21st and we sincerely hope you help them push forward with all the awesome things they’re doing on helping comedians make and release their own comedy (what a novel idea, right?)
