James Acaster’s Netflix Special “Repertoire” to Be Released in Four Parts

UK comedian James Acaster is joining the slight uptick in trying something different in comedy specials besides just doing one hour in front of a crowd.

Seemingly inspired by the famous “stages of grief”, Acaster is doing a Netflix special in four parts, each representing a “stage of James”. Acaster himself is more than polished enough to do a traditional special, so that ought to be interesting.

See a bit of it for yourself in the trailer for Repertoire here. Then, look for it to drop on Netflix on Tuesday, March 27th.

It isn’t out of the realm of possibility that Nicholas Cage would do live commentary of one his movies.

However, that doesn’t seem to be on the horizon quiet yet and, in the mean time, we have something pretty damn close with Kenny Stevenson as Nic Cage doing said live commentary of Nic Cage movies.

This Sunday at UCB Sunset’s Inner Sanctum, he’ll be doing just that with The Rock along with guests (that may or may not also be in character) Josh Covitt, Marshall Givens and Jessica Jean Jardine.

Admission is FREE. Get more details for Nic Cagentary here.

Simply, we love that one, Jacqueline Novak, used the platform that a late night stand-up set on The Tonight Show provides to lay down the law when it comes to sharing fries when going out.

Also, we love the unexpected, but wholly wonderful twirling that happens during this set on last week’s Fallon.

Please watch and enjoy it here.

“The Feels” Is a Romantic Comedy for a Future That Should Be the Present

If you’re looking for a romantic comedy that is a shock, albeit a grounded and delightful one, to the romantic comedy genre, go watch The Feels, directed by Jenée LaMarque and co-written by LaMarque and Lauren Parks.

It’s a love story that delves into the finer nuances of sexuality and sexual identity in a way that’s more endearing and sweet than voyeuristic, which it could very easily have been. In fact, the movie, as a whole, exists in a space where any sort of hang-ups or pre-conceived notions about sexuality (LGBTQ specifically) are thrown out the window and all the characters just get to be who they are in a quietly beautiful way. The story takes places over a bachelorette party weekend in a cabin, showing what love could be if people, whoever they may be, loved who they loved without surface level judgment.

The direction from LaMarque of the fully improvised performances is very impressive as they really don’t seem improvised. The chemistry of the leads Constance Wu and Angela Trimbur along with comic reliefs Ever Mainaird and Josh Fadem all make it feel both real and well-crafted at the same time.

By the way, here’s the trailer.

The Feels is available now on VOD on all digital platforms. You can (and should) actually get it on iTunes right now right here.

Anthony Atamanuik’s Trump is fed up with how the real Trump can’t get the money for all of his dumb ideas.

So, they’ll be doing two “telethon specials” to raise the money that Congress won’t give him. It’s sure to be a lot of devilish, prescient fun.

The first one is scheduled for Tuesday, April 3rd at 11PM and the other one will take place later this Summer.

We’ll let Atamanuik/Trump do the rest of the talking.

Watch Trailer for Bo Burnham’s Writer-Director Debut “Eighth Grade”

Bo Burnham really is making an impressive showing as a director after making himself into a formidable comedian. From his work on his own specials to directing comedy specials for Jerrod Carmichael and Chris Rock, Burnham has made the next step to a feature length film Eighth Grade that he both wrote and directed.

The trailer promises a coming of age of story that has a bit of wry, satiric edge and something that could be really special (perhaps, 2018′s Lady Bird). The trailer will definitely make you think about how painful a time 8th grade might have been for you.

Look for Eighth Grade in theaters on July 13th.

Apple Scores Animated Musical Comedy “Central Park” From Loren Bouchard, Nora Smith, and Josh Gad

As you can see the streaming services build their war chest of content, we see here that Apple has just scored a big get with this series order.

It has Gad and both a Bob’s Burgers team of Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard and Bob’s Burgers EP Nora Smith. The cast will includes the likes of Kristen Bell, Stanley Tucci, Josh Gad, Titus Burgess, Daveed Diggs, Leslie Odom Jr., and Kathryn Hahn.

Paul Feig Launches Digital Content Company Powderkeg To Highlight Female, LGBTQ, and POC Voices

This new banner launched by Paul Feig and headed up by Laura Fischer will “…focus on scripted and unscripted series as well as incubator programs”.

It’s nice to see that Feig is expanding from his passion for highlighting women in comedy (just take a look at his filmography from the last several years). This move also comes on top of a doing an “inclusion rider” on his projects and promoting a diverse work environment.

Needless to say, we’re very curious to see what comes from all of this and if the company will live up to its name.

You Should Be Listening to “All Fantasy Everything” If You Need Some Positivity In Your Life

It’s a hard feat within the realm of comedy to be both positive and being funny at the same time. The crux of so many jokes comes rely on a critical, yet pithy and/or clever angle of the world by the comedian/writer/humorist/etc.

Still, that doesn’t mean that being funny about something that’s good can’t be done. That’s where the podcast All Fantasy Everything comes in.

Wonderful comedian and writer Ian Karmel hosts a fantasy draft like you would for football, but, as the title suggests, for everything else. That includes: Taco Bell menu, moments in songs that give you chills, what you would do with a billion dollars, what fictional character you’d date, movie soundtracks and treating yourself just to name a few. The draft itself has a bit of drama kind of like an actual Fantasy Football draft, but nothing too heavy as the podcast is a round-robin of what and why one loves what they love in a certain category.

Karmel is often joined by David Gborie and Sean Jordan along with great guests who really swing for the fences with their pick. They’re 72 episodes in, and, just this past weekend, did a live episode at SXSW, which should give you plenty of reason to binge All Fantasy Everything. Do so here.
