March 9, 2016
Uncategorized
cleanliness, hotel rooms, how dirty, nikki glaser, not safe

You might have a faint idea of filthy hotel rooms can be, but Not Safe with Nikki Glaser makes sure to hit the point hilariously home by asking the first wave of people, the housekeeping staff at a hotel, about their personal encounters of whatever debauchery goes down after folks leave for the day or check out.

Be careful here as you can’t un-know what you’ll see and hear here.

If kids are really tapped into the cultural zeitgeist, it could be for them too.

Called Carry This Book, Abbi Jacobson’s latest offering will bring her playful and colorful sensibilities, literally, to adults.

“What’s inside Martha Stewart’s hand-knit fanny pack?” will be the sort of thing the book will be focused on.

It’s sure to make a great gift heading into this year’s holiday season as the release date is set for Oct. 11th.

Dave Ross & Ryan Singer’s Sketch Album “Three” Is Darkly Hysterical and Also Very NSFW

March 8, 2016
Uncategorized
comedy album, dark comedy, dave ross, ryan singer, sketch, three

Often, inspiration come in the 11th hour and at the spur of the moment. Such is the case with Three, a sketch album from Dave Ross and Ryan Singer recorded in four hours after they were having dinner one random night.

Oddly enough, the sketches contained therein pretty much cover all the bases of what you’re not supposed to talk about at the dinner table, mostly sex and religion. Also, they seemingly improvise in such a ridiculous way that wouldn’t be kosher at any table, save for the one for the sketch group that Ross is in, Women.

The outright, ultra-blue absurdity of Three toes the line between being cringeworthy and the sort of comedy that breaks your brain for how farcical it is.

If you’re into really dark comedy, you might really get into Three (just probably don’t play it loud at work as we mentioned in the headline).

Oh, did we mention it’s free to stream and download?

Be at Austin’s Paramount Theater, March 12th, Saturday night at midnight if you want to go.

The action comedy starring Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele where they save a cat is coming to SXSW. Though, it will be a “work-in-progress” cut of the movie, you’ll still have a chance to see it several weeks (premiere is at the end of April) before anyone else, even if it ends up being cut different. In fact, you’ll get to see a cut that no one else will probably see.

Either way, if you’re down in Austin, TX for SXSW, you should probably go to this.

During election years, presidential candidates are promised equal air time at a given TV network. If one candidate gets to be on air for a specific amount of time, other candidates can request that same amount of air time on the same network.

In a similar line of thought, Samantha Bee made sure to grill both sides of the aisle in their individual debates on last night’s Full Frontal.

As she has been doing since day one at her show, Samantha goes for the jugular in her jokes with almost no remorse and we can’t get enough.

Watch her latest breakdown of the most recent GOP and Democratic debates and you’ll see what we mean.

Bonnie McFarlane’s journey in comedy is the kind of journey that you almost wouldn’t believe given how cool, calm, and collected that Bonnie is when you see her on stage or hear her on a podcast. Yet, you’ll hear all about what she went through in her new memoir You’re Better Than Me.

From climbing the ranks of stand-up atypically, directing her own films, and being one of a handful of female stand-ups to have done Letterman, Bonnie has more than enough stories to show the improbably winding road she had to take to do comedy on her terms and keep it together all while doing so.

Get You’re Better Than Me fresh off Anthony Bourdain’s publishing arm.

For many years, we’ve enjoyed seeing Stephanie Allynne hone her darkly humorous, yet grounded comedic sensibilities. In an ever-growing field of dramatic comedy, she manages to stand out.

Now, she’s written and directed a short, The Fun Company, that will be coming out in April and features the likes of Mary Holland, Tig Notaro, and Lauren Lapkus.

From the looks of this gloriously rant-centric trailer, Allynne might have something special (that might also tangle with your idea of feminism is) with The Fun Company.

Jimmy Kimmel to Return as Host for The Emmys

Now, we’ll just have to see if The Emmys will get any sort of controversy like The Oscars did and how Kimmel might handle it.

This September, Jimmy Kimmel will host The Primetime Emmy Awards for the second time and also “keep it in the family” at ABC is the current home of both Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Emmys.

Given the amount of awards given out at The Emmys and the growing amount of diversity on TV, an #EmmysSoWhite seems unlikely. However, six months leaves plenty of room for controversy, from any angle, to arise and potentially make for a very intriguing challenge for someone like Kimmel.

Fortunately, he also wants to continue working with the same folks, wants the end of Childrens Hospital to be an amicable one, and has plenty of pilots and scripts already in the works.
