Watch Trailer for “Roseanne for President”

June 18, 2016
Uncategorized
documentary, election, eric weinrib, presidential race, roseanne barr, roseanne for president

You might have heard that groundbreaking comedian and sitcom star Roseanne Barr has ran for office of President of these United States. Compared to everything else that has happened in this election, it’s not that odd.

Director Eric Weinrib made a documentary following Roseanne on the campaign trail and it looks pretty crazy, especially when you take in the reality of a comedian actually running for POTUS.

Watch the trailer here, then look for it in theaters and on VOD on July 1st.

Hasan Minhaj Hosts the Hell Out of 2016 RTCA Dinner

Uncategorized

The RTCA Dinner, which is the Congressional equivalent of the much more well known White House Correspondents Dinner, just took place this week.

The Daily Show’s Hasan Minhaj was on hand to host and did a pretty swell job. Dropping the persona he has while on The Daily Show, Hasan balanced out a snappy barrage of jokes between Congress, media, and this year’s Presidential race with a very good chunk of sincerity.

If there’s anyone that looking to do a new satirical news show, it’s pretty clear to us that he could host his own show.

Please watch his entire monologue here.

Will Arnett to Host SyFy Presents Live From Comic-Con

We’d bet that since Conan O’Brien will also be there, pranks will happen.

SyFy is launching a live telecast from the world renowned San Diego Comic-Con and have scored Will Arnett as a host. Arnett will be bouncing around between fans, celebrities, sneak peeks, etc. over three nights starting July 21st.

Any takers on whether he’d run into more fans that would do his Arrested Development chicken dance or wear a BoJack Horseman mask?

Starwipe, The Onion’s Parody of Celebrity News, Is Shutting Down

June 17, 2016
Uncategorized
starwipe, the onion

Since, as they say, “celebrity is dead”, they’re saying goodbye.

In truth, Starwipe hasn’t gained the popularity that the other Onion off-shoot, Clickhole, has gotten and will be thusly shutting down its operation.

We do note that celebrity news is getting harder and harder to parody as the source material seems like a parody of itself already and parodies of that have already flooded the Internet. In any case, we’ll be curious to see if starwipe.com will be used for anything else like .gifs of actual starwipes over the post-apocalyptic hellscape that’s left in the wake of the concept of celebrity dying.

Pamela Adlon/Louis CK Series “Better Things” to Premiere on September 8th

Uncategorized

(via Deadline)

For those missing Louie, we’re going to guess this is what you should be looking forward to next.

Better Things will follow Pamela as an actress and mother in an semi-autobiographical way, similar to how Louie kind of followed Louis CK’s life as a comedian and a father. It’s set to premiere on FX on Thursday, September 8th.

As it’s following the life of Adlon specifically, we’re guessing that the Pamela on Better Things is a different than the Pamela she played in Louie. However, don’t be surprised if there is a bit of crossover, even as a joke to poke fun at the idea of a “crossover” episode.

For NBC, doing shows with Mike Schur has been a good thing (Parks and Recreation) and we can only hope that this dynamic continues with Schur’s latest show The Good Place.

There’s a lot of promise and a big literally “otherwordly” universe to explore with Kristen Bell and Ted Danson in The Good Place and you should mark down the series premiere date of Monday, September 19th.

Tig Notaro’s Book “I’m Just a Person” Out Now

Uncategorized

Tig Notaro has a brilliant comedic spirit with a harrowing story overcoming a whirlwind of tribulation including her mother dying, cancer, a break-up, and more all in one year.

She’s also a very accessible and visible window into how we’re all, in a manner of speaking, in it together (i.e. LBGTQ people shouldn’t be treated as ‘the other’ and discriminated against).

Anything she does is not only a work of comedy worthy of your attention, but something important beyond the realm of comedy.

With that said, you should probably get her book about that aforementioned year that changed her life, I’m Just a Person, just released this week. You can do so here.

Seth Meyers Bans Donald Trump from Being a Guest on “Late Night”

June 15, 2016
Uncategorized
ban, donald trump, late night, nbc, seth meyers, washington post

This may be a symbolic gesture at best, but we can only hope that only a few more shows follow suit here.

As a result of Donald Trump banning The Washington Post from covering his campaign events, Late Night host Seth Meyers is banning Trump from being a guest on Late Night.

Seth announced this during his “A Closer Look” segment that delved into Trump’s bigoted response to the horrific Orlando shooting this past weekend.

Again, this may be a small push back against Trump. However, if other shows do ban him and Trump won’t get to, let’s say, play a silly game on The Tonight Show and get less airtime, this will have been worth it.
