Before 2017 rolls in for America, please enjoy, thanks to AOK, a slightly more realistic depiction of what would take if the beloved Power Rangers of your childhood did as much as damage as they were shown to do.

For some reason, even though it’s not 2017 yet, this seems to capture the spirit of 2017.

Watch it here.

We would very much like to watch a reunion panel of TV show starring Greg Proops, Jon Dore, Baron Vaughn, and Gareth Reynolds.

Josh Androsky and Bryan Cook’s Reunited offers up something possibly better with bringing that line-up together for a faux TV series that they starred in without any of them knowing ahead of time what that fake TV show was.

Pretty great, right? Well, you can (and should) get your tickets for the show’s latest edition happening this Friday, January 7th here.

We’re on the precipice of 2017 and leaving 2016.

For several people, that change is met with an angrily muttering of “good riddance!”

For Steve Harvey in this latest mash-up/remix done by Vic Berger for Super Deluxe, the changing of the years doesn’t seem to matter as hosting Family Feud has taken on a more Sisyphean task.

Here’s the best glimpse, thus far, to see what Oh, Hello on Broadway is like if you’re unable to snag some tickets.

Geroge St. Geegland/John Mulaney and Gil Faizon/Nick Kroll always have a different guest every night on their live Oh, Hello show on Broadway. Their guests have been all sorts of a-listers and celebrated New Yorkers.

Recently, they just had one of their best guests yet with legendary actor Alan Alda, who seems to fit in with St. Geegland and Faizon’s geriatric antics.

See for yourself here.

HBO To Air Carrie Fisher’s Special ‘Wishful Drinking’ This Week in Tribute

A few years ago, HBO made a special out of Carrie Fisher’s stage show Wishful Drinking, which features Fisher’s wild stories told unapologetically and hilariously by her.

On, Sunday, January 1st at 9PM, will air the special once more in tribute to the late, legendary actress.

As you can see from Fisher roasting George Lucas at an AFI Award event, you might want to watch.

Laurie Kilmartin’s Special “45 Jokes About My Dead Dad” Now Streaming at Seeso

Already, Laurie Kilmartin and her new comedy special, 45 Jokes About My Dead Dad, now available on Seeso, has made plenty of year end ‘best of comedy’ lists.

We concur with those lists and think you should watch Laurie’s comedy special tribute to her late father, which combines joke craftsmanship, veteran comedy chops, and a wonderful vulnerability (lovingly accented with interviews with Laurie’s family, Patton Oswalt, Andy Kindler, and Conan O’Brien) usually reserved for solo shows.

You can get two months of Seeso free to watch this special w/promo code: kimartin

UCB’s got something up their sleeve with Gene Wilder & Fidel Castro’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve (in Limbo). According to the description, you’ll be able to wander halls of limbo that includes:

A Facebook Echo Chamber
Westworld World
The Physical Manifestation of Reddit
A Limbo Karaoke Room featuring the music of the approx. 1,000 musical artists who died in 2016
Hillary Clinton’s Woods
The Set of a Multi-Cam Sitcom
Fake News Ground Zero

Taking place all night long at UCB Sunset tomorrow, Friday, December 30th, this probably means you’ll get to actually wander the halls of the building (instead of just sitting in the theater), perhaps Sleep No More style, and see UCB’s go to performers recreate what they think 2016′s version of limbo is.

Interested? Good. You can (and should) get tickets here.

Zach Broussard Reveals a Missing Billboard for His Top 1000 Comedians of 2016

Several weeks ago, Zach Broussard released his list of his picks for the Top 1000 Comedians of 2016. Not satisfied with just posting the list online, Broussard enlisted a billboard company to put all 100 names across a handful of billboards across LA.

Thus, a fun scavenger hunt to see who made the list was born. You can actually still see where the billboards are in LA here and see the picks in person for one more week.

However, the billboard for comedians 600-501 did not get posted.

Due to some sort of clerical error, you could have only see 900 of the 1000 of Broussard’s list. Thankfully, today, he posted what would have gone up on a billboard for those 100 names as you can see in the image above.

Watch Trailer for Laurie Kilmartin’s Excellent Special “45 Jokes About My Dead Dad”

December 27, 2016
Uncategorized
45 jokes about my dead dad, comedy special, gallows humor, laurie kilmartin, seeso, stand up

It’s not often that you see concept specials/albums in comedy. Generally, those go in to the territory of solo shows (or they’re marketed as such), but doing jokes for an entire show on one single topic is a rare bird as it’s very hard to pull such a feat off well.

The passing of Laurie Kilmartin’s father lead to a joke writing frenzy on Twitter that caught the attention of the Internet. From there, she took the jokes on stage and put together an entire special that is very clear in its intentions, 45 Jokes About My Dead Dad.

The jokes are as well-crafted and funny as they are dark and honest, as you’ll see in the trailer. Also, there are thoughtful interviews in the special with Laurie, her family, Patton Oswalt, Andy Kindler, and Conan O’Brien that give some insight as to how the whole special came about. Overall, Kilmartin really showcases how powerful comedy can be in dealing with loss and does so hysterically.

Watch the trailer for 45 Jokes About My Dead Dad here, then stream it on Seeso this week on Thursday, December 29th.

Before You Wave Christmas Goodbye, Paul F. Tompkins Has a Great New Holiday Carol “Please Don’t Joke About ‘I, Robot’ This Christmas”

If you honestly look at a lot of the lyrics of Christmas songs, they too often are vague, steeped to deep in symbolic imagery, or throw around various positive platitudes all while wrapped up in a catchy melody.

This is not the case with the new country-leaning holiday song from Paul F. Tompkins, “Please Don’t Joke About ‘I Robot’ This Christmas”.

It’s very specific and very personal (and a tad bit silly sure).

It should be your new favorite holiday song as the 2016 holiday season comes to a close and something to enjoy at the end of 2017.

Toni Erdmann Might Be the R Rated Comedy to Bring Families Together

German comedy Toni Erdmann from writer/director Maren Ade is racking up plenty of nominations and wins this awards season and deservedly so.

Somehow, it manages to be an R-rated comedy, thanks to some downright hysterical nude scenes, but also manages to be incredibly sweet and gleefully strange. In fact, it’s quite a heartwarming story about an estranged daughter played by Sandra Hüller reconnecting with her father who just happens to be a top shelf goofball played by Peter Simonischek.

As far as foreign comedies go, Toni Erdmann stands tall this year with our other favorites, Hunt for the Wilderpeople and The Lobster.

Starting on Christmas Day, Toni Erdmann will starts playing in theaters, such as the Nuart in West LA, in limited release.
