TruTV really wasn’t kidding with their rebranding.

Their portion of this year’s Upfronts consisted of an intriguing slate that includes a series order of Adam Conover’s Adam Ruins Everything, which should bring an air of funny bittersweetness to us all with Adam’s explanation of things we unfortunately take for granted, and a pilot from stand-up comedians and real life husband and wife Tom Segura and Christina Pazsitzky.

Along with Those Who Can’t and gaining Billy On The Street, TruTV’s line-up becomes more enticing everyday.

In spite of the title, Those Who Can’t has graduated from pilot to full fledged series. TruTV has ordered 10 episodes to air in 2016 following The Grawlix (Adam Cayton-Holland, Ben Roy, and Andrew Orvedahl) as dysfunctional high school teachers and Mara Thayer is set to play a librarian.

Finally, we’ll all get to see what Amazon missed out on when they didn’t pick this up to series.

truTV just keeps their comedy programming rolling in. With the addition of Billy on The Street and a pilot order of Those Who Can’t, they seem to be headed in a good direction.

Their latest addition to their development slate is a pilot order of the very funny Adam Conover sharp web series Adam Ruins Everything over at College Humor. Following things like circumcision, we can only imagine what Adam will “ruin” with a full TV slot and budget.

“Billy On The Street” Moving to truTV and TBS For Fourth Season

Not only are we going to get to see America’s favorite “pop culture inquisitor” Billy Eichner return to the streets for a fourth season to question any and all, famous or not about his personal pop culture obsessions, but we’ll get two different networks to watch it on.

Eichner and company are moving from Fuse to both truTV and TBS in their fourth season as well, perhaps, going somewhere else (Billy is taking suggestions) besides various parts of NYC.

So, all of America needs to prep their knowledge on Meryl Streep for later this year.

Taking some cues from Amazon, the newly rebranded TruTV has teamed up with Tumblr to find their next unscripted comedy series.

The Big Deal Contest is taking on 2-3 min. video submissions for an unscripted comedy that include a 1-page treatment featuring likable, authentic characters.

TruTV is currently taking submissions all the way until Jan. 8th, 2015 and will announce two winners later that month.

Adult Swim and TruTV Renew Their Freshman Series

New comedy series Friends of the People, Black Jesus, Mike Tyson Mysteries, and Mr. Pickles were all just renewed for a second season by their respective networks, TruTV and Adult Swim.

The sketch show on the rebranded TruTV, a show about the return of Jesus as a black man, a Scooby Doo style animated cartoon with Mike Tyson as the lead, and the adventures of a satanic dog have have all made it to a second round.

We’re pretty sure none of these shows would get picked up at one of the big broadcast networks, but unlike most of network sitcoms, these shows have, at the very least, either their bosses behind them or have done well enough to get another episode order.

In any case, televised comedy continues to thrive on cable.

TruTV Orders Pilot of The Grawlix’s “Those Who Can’t”

While Amazon has gotten plenty of accolades for their comedy series line-up that includes Transparent, we always thought that they missed out on picking up the pilot Those Who Can’t from Adam Cayton-Holland, Ben Roy, and Andrew Orvedahl (i.e. The Grawlix) to series.

TruTV has now made the smart move of ordering a brand new pilot of Those Who Can’t that features the aforementioned trio as dysfunctional high school teachers dealing with dysfunctional high school kids.

If we remember watching the pilot correctly at Amazon, this should be great and needs to go to series.

Turner Broadcasting has officially hired the new president of TBS and TNT as well as the Chief Creative Officer in Kevin Reilly formerly a head of Fox and NBC.

In addition to being put as head honcho at TBS and TNT, he’ll be the chair of the Turner Entertainment Programming Council that will specifically overseeing senior executives at TBS, Adult Swim, and truTV, which are three comedy focused networks.

We’re not sure what Reilly will do, but given his disgust with the same day ratings and the concept of pilot season, we’re excited to see what direction he’ll take everything mentioned above.

Well, the wonderfully dark and absurd minds of Murderfist are going to be on TV tonight as they’re being featured on truTV’s Friends of the People.

Tune in 10PM to truTV to see the folks that made this unforgettable rehearsal dinner sketch who will hopefully bring their brand of comedy, that we previously thought was just going to reside on the Internet, to TVs across America.

truTV’s big shift from reality and court TV to comedy, specifically with the branding “WAY. MORE. FUN.” has begun and it’s kicking off one of its more highly anticipated shows tonight, “Friends of the People”.

With a cast boasting The Lucas Brothers, Kevin Barnett, Josh Rabinowitz, Lil’ Rel, Jermaine Fowler, and Jennifer Bartels, we think it definitely will be worth checking out the series premiere tonight at 10:30PM on truTV.

We can see this is probably going to be way more fun already.

TruTV Rebranding Itself as a Comedy Channel to Have “Way More Fun”

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

Come Oct. 27th, TruTV will no longer be the land of Court TV as they will have officially rebranded themselves with an entirely new comedy line-up. “Way more fun” is the tagline they’ll have and the tone they’re aiming for and having series like the sketch show Friends of the People is certainly a good start.

In the era where Comedy Central has had a resurgence, IFC has successfully rebranded themselves as a comedy channel, Adult Swim making great live action and animated comedy series, HBO as well as FX earning plenty of accolades with their comedy series, and Netflix/Hulu/Amazon/Yahoo all collecting their own noteworthy comedy series line-ups, TruTV definitely has their work cut out for them, but we’re excited to see where they go.

Conan and Team Coco Making Its Way Finally to the UK

Unlike in Sweden where Conan O’Brien has been hailed a hero for his comedic stylings and bearing a resemblance to a prime minister of the country, Conan, along with a lot of late night talk shows here in the U.S., haven’t made a big splash in the UK.

Fortunately, that’s all about to change as episodes of Conan on TBS will now be broadcast in the UK via TruTV.

This makes us wonder if folks across the pond are even aware of Conan’s String Dance, the Masturbating Bear, or Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. If not, they’re in for a real treat.

TruTV Gives Greenlights First Sketch Comedy Series “Friends of the People”

Coming this Summer, TruTV will expand their branding as a network to include a sketch comedy show starring the likes of Kevin Barnett, Jennifer Bartels, Jermaine Fowler, Lil Rel Howery , The Lucas Bros. and Josh Rabinowitz.

So, TruTV first had comedians do talking heads on shows like World’s Dumbest Criminals, then had Impractical Jokers, and now will go on with fully contained sketch comedy, which is very nice to see.
