Sacha Baron Cohen Teases His New Undercover Interview Show “Who Is America?” Coming to Showtime

July 9, 2018
Uncategorized

Well, it turns out that Sacha Baron Cohen had gone deep into character yet again over the last year to shoot his latest show, but done so in a way that is being touted as “undercover”.

We’re guessing that being undercover is the only way he’d get to talk to Dick Cheney as shown in this teaser and tweet (in which Cheney apparently signs a “waterboard kit”). You’ll notice that Cohen has donned yet another voice, though we’re not quite sure what ridiculous get up he’s in this time and what satirical angle he’s playing.

What we do know is that the show is called Who Is America? and is going for a rather short season and it will actually be premiering on Showtime this Sunday, July 15th at 10PM. We’re guessing there will be some satire of Trump, though we’re curious to see if Cohen will bring something else that we haven’t seen yet from the mountains of content that has been made parodying the Trump Administration.

We’ll all have to wait and see this weekend.

Desus & Mero Move on Up to Showtime

Apparently, Desus Nice and the Kid Mero will be hosting the very first weekly late night talk show over at Showtime.

They’ve been doing a smash up job with Desus & Mero over at Viceland, truly giving late night something very fresh and unlike anything else. If you’re unfamiliar, binge watch their YouTube channel here.

So, we can’t wait to see how much and what level of trash Desus & Mero can now talk as they’ll soon be on premium cable.

Also, since they were just borrowing the Viceland conference room to shoot their show, we can only imagine how dope, what we’re guessing will be, their actual constructed and dedicated set will look like. Perhaps, it’ll have even more woodland creatures with timbs?

Here’s a First Look at New Episodes of Our Cartoon President

Sunday, July 15th is when Our Cartoon President, the animated satirical send-up of the Trump Administration, returns for 7 new episodes on Showtime.

Specifically, they’ll air on Showtime at 10:30PM on Sundays.

Though it’s animated (making it hard to be up-to-the-minute topical), we are curious to see if they will do any sort of riff on Samantha Bee’s Ivanka joke that she apologized for today.

In any case, here’s a teaser for what’s to come.

Our Cartoon President Picked Up for 7 More Episodes at Showtime

We hope that this backend order means that they’ll pull even less punches in satirizing the Trump Administration.

From a mere segment to a full fledged show on a premium cable network where they can really let the satire fly, Our Cartoon President is set to have network series premiere at 8PM on Showtime.

Even though the series hits close to home for us all due to the time that we’re live in, the fact that it’s animated makes the jokes funnier and the satire a little easier to handle as you can see in this Ep. 2 clip.

Thanks to Showtime, you can see what the cartoon spin-off from Colbert’s cartoon Trump segment on Late Show has in store for us all as the full premiere episode is on YouTube courtesy of the premium cable network.

We watched it and know that they absolutely pull no punches, though it stings slightly less since it’s animated. See for yourself here.

The series premiere for Our Cartoon President is set for February 11th at 8PM on Showtime.

Coming to Showtime on Sunday, February 11th at 8PM to Showtime will be the series premiere of Our Cartoon President, an entire animated series born out of the recurring cartoon Trump segments from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

It should be noted that this will be the second televised comedy series entirely dedicated to satirizing Trump as President and, as it’s animated, it seems much less terrifying than the reality that it’s making fun of.

Showtime Renews SMILF for Second Season

“So excited i can’t focus and my editor Todd is looking at me like Frankie put the phone down, put the phone down Frankie, we have a cut to finish, but there’s a party over here I’m jumping on the couch in love with this announcement like Tom cruise was in love with Katie Holmes”

Sometimes, things work how they’re supposed to and a great short film gets successfully adapted into a television worthy of being renewed. Such is the story of Frankie Shaw’s SMILF.

Showtime Is Developing a Comedy Where Jessica Williams Will Play an Aspiring Science Fiction Writer in Brooklyn

More and more, Jessica Williams is surprising people with her post-Daily Show moves.

Sci-fi writer and Jessica Williams together in a series does have our curiosity peaked and intensely pondering what that first teaser or trailer might even look like should this project go to series.

Jim Carrey to Reunite with Michel Gondry on Showtime’s Newest Comedy “Kidding” from Dave Holstein

A series that has a Mr. Rogers type character at the precipice of a mental breakdown sounds like something that Jim Carrey and Michel Gondry together would be perfect for. If you can imagine the alternate universe that Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind operates in, this premise from series creator Dave Holstein (writer for Weeds and Raising Hope) would most certainly be another tale from such a place.

10 episodes have been ordered by Showtime already and, curiously enough, Carrey’s TV persona in the show is named Mr. Pickles. Though that, at this point, doesn’t seem to have any relation to the Adult Swim show of the same name, the name Mr. Pickles might just stop having such an innocent ring to it.

Also, take note that Carrey had a significant role in the making of Showtime’s freshly renewed I’m Dying Up Here and, pending how well this series does, we thusly wouldn’t be surprised at Showtime signing Carrey to some kind of overall deal.

The journey to this series being made is one of those breaking in Hollywood stories that you love to see. Frankie Shaw made a fantastic, honest, vulnerable, and truthfully hilarious short film based on her life, which made the rounds at film festivals. Then got adapted into the Showtime series coming this November 5th.

So, with that in mind, please watch and enjoy the trailer for SMILF.

Colbert’s Cartoon Trump to Get Its Own Show on Showtime

As a sitting U.S. President, Trump might just have broken new ground by provoking two major cable TV networks to order series that portray a clearly negative version of him even though he’s the lead character. We’re pretty sure that has never happened to any other U.S. President.

Yet, The President Show on Comedy Central and this newly ordered ‘Cartoon Trump’ spin-off from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s Cartoon Trump segments on Showtime furthers Trump being in a class that’s all his own.

Both Colbert and Late Show’s Chris Licht will be helming the project.

If, a decade ago, you could place money on whether a TV series called Episodes would last more than one season on a premium cable network, much less for five, we’d guess that you wouldn’t make that bet.

However, Matt LeBlanc has found more than solid footing in a post-Friends world with such a show.

See for yourself in the trailer for the fifth and upcoming season of Episodes.

Look for the premiere on Sunday, August 20th at 10PM on Showtime.

Showtime is really putting a lot of chips down for the latest series, a dramatic look at the 70s LA comedy scene, i’m Dying up here. It was much different golden era of comedy with comedy clubs being kingdoms of their own, making for the compelling book of the same name by William Knoedelseder.

Actual present day comedians Al Madrigal, Jon Daly, Andrew Santino, Erik Griffin comprise a very impressive cast next to Melissa Leo, Sebastian Stan, Ari Graynor, Clark Duke, RJ Cyler, and Michael Angarano.

Also, the one and only Jim Carrey is an EP and writer of this David Flebotte created show that is loosely based on that LA comedy of yesterday.

The series premiere is tonight at 10PM on Showtime. If you don’t have Showtime, the premium cable network was nice enough to put the whole damn premiere episode, ahead of the premiere, on YouTube for free.

Frankie Shaw Takes Her Short Film “SMILF” Based on Her Life to Festival Circuit and Then All the Way to a Showtime Series Pick Up

Frankie Shaw is taking her story to the top of the mountain as what started as a short film made the rounds at Sundance and is now going to series with Rosie O’Donnell co-starring at Showtime.

If you’ve gotten a chance to see SMILF (a twist on the well worn slang term MILF), you’d know that this show, along with the return Twin Peaks, could signal a new wave of peak TV programming for Showtime.

In fact, on top of all of that, Al’s got a new hour special, his first in a few years, coming out on Showtime called Shrimpin Ain’t Easy. Here’s a small teaser.

Trailer for Showtime’s I’m Dying Up Here Promises a Dive Into the Crazy World That Was the 70′s LA Comedy Scene

January 11, 2017
Uncategorized
i'm dying up here, showtime, trailer

Sure, comedy in LA is in a current golden age/boom right now of the likes that has never been seen before.

However, the 1970s were a much crazier, drug-fueled time for comedy in LA and Showtime’s newest series, I’m Dying Up Here, looks to get into the nitty gritty of it all at that time.

The trailer just dropped and you can get a bit of a taste of what it was like at that time as well as enjoying seeing some comedians from now like Al Madrigal, Erik Griffin, Andrew Santino, and Jon Daly in crazy hair and get ups.

If you’re all on board for this, catch the series premiere of I’m Dying Up Here on Sunday, June 4th at 10PM on Showtime.

Stephen Colbert Signs Off on His Election Special with More Gravitas Than Jokes

November 9, 2016
Uncategorized
election, showtime, stephen colbert

This is more of the type of monologue that late night hosts engage in when a national tragedy has just happened.

This election had not been called at the time, but Stephen Colbert closed his live election special on Showtime as best he could without alienating anyone too much. The tension was beyond palpable in the room (as it probably still is around the world while you’re reading these very words) and he handled it with as much grace as anyone could muster in this situation.

Watch it here.
