Pick of the Day: Anna Seregina: A Tour of Anna (in NYC) 11/11

November 1, 2023
News
anna seregina, new york comedy, new york comedy festival, nycf, union hall

One of the marvels of Anna Seregina and her comedy is that it is simultaneously ethereal and lofty, but undeniably farcical at the same very moment in spacetime. Seregina freely floats in between meta layers of bits and even of herself, but the silliness she embodies keeps the fun accessible to those who might initially seek out comedy at its fringes.

It’s this notion that should lead you to Seregina performing her “tour” of herself, A Tour of Anna directed by the splendid Mitra Jouhari more specfically, at the New York Comedy Festival next Sat. Nov. 11th at 5PM at Union Hall with beloved NYC comedy raconteur Dave Hill opening.

“Tour” tickets are only $15.64 and you really ought to go get them here right now.

Pick of the Day: LET’S MAKE A POOP FEAT. TRIUMPH THE INSULT COMIC DOG (NYCF) 11/6

October 25, 2023
News

Many things will endure in the collective memories of Gen-Xers and Millennial fans of Conan O’Brien and one of the most unforgettable of those things would be the Robert Smigel creation that is Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. A grandmaster of the man-on-the-street style of interview, Smigel’s dog puppet covered hand and his vaguely European gravel-y accent and some of the sickest burns and a constantly dropped cigar made an indelible impression in the world of late night and still lives on in laughs when remembering things like Triumph hanging with Star Wars fans or going to any political convention.

So, it shouldn’t go without saying that a very special New York Comedy Festival evening with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog lined up for Nov. 6th at 8PM at the Murmrr Theatre should be an immediate buy. Take care of that at $31.14 a pop here.

Pick of the Day: NYCF-Million Dollar Roasting 11/13

November 10, 2022
News
Devon Walker, hanna dickinson, Kerryn Feehan, Lil Frex, new york comedy festival, nycf, parody, the stand, zillow

The New York Comedy Festival is coming to a close this Sunday, but that leaves three days that are still absolutely jam packed with comedy that you absolutely shouldn’t miss across all of NYC.

In fact, on Sunday, at The Stand, we’d wager that you would very much get a kick out of some of the busiest and most booked of the NYC comedy scene (including one of SNL’s latest hires) roasting million dollar real estate. Called Million Dollar Roasting, Hanna Dickinson will lead Devon Walker, Kerryn Feehan, Lil Frex, and other special guests to go through Zillow listings that start at $10 million dollars. It can be hard to stick it to the 1%, but making fun of what sort of property they waste their money on can be a lot of fun.

Million Dollar Roasting is set for this Sun. Nov. 13th, the final day of NYCF, at 7PM at The Stand. Tickets are $25 and you can (and should) go get ’em here.

Pick of the Day: NYCF: Apocalypse Soon with Eddie Pepitone 11/12

November 9, 2022
News
caveat, eddie pepitone, new york comedy festival, nyc comedy

It should never be forgotten that Eddie Pepitone’s For The Masses was named as one of 2020’s best comedy specials, not only by us, but The NY Times. At such a low point, Pepitone’s humor is both the necessary medicine and sugar to help get through such a wildly dark time, probably unlike any that we’ve all collectively lived through in our lives.

Eddie has been that sort of comedian for decades now and, as such, should never be missed no matter what he’s up to, especially if he’s in town (like he is this week for The New York Comedy Festival). Specifically, Eddie will be doing a live taping of his podcast, Apocalypse Soon, at Caveat on Sat. Nov. 12th at 3PM. Tickets are $15 right now and $10 for a livestream.

As the fate of the US seems to hang in the balance of incoming election results, getting a ticket to see Eddie live right now will help. Do so here.

Pick of the Day: Without A Country: Live Midterm Election Watch-Along (in NYC) 11/8

November 7, 2022
News
corinne fisher, midterm elections, new york comedy festival, nyc comedy, nycf

First and foremost, if you haven’t voted yet, definitely go vote already.

After that, you’re probably a little on edge on how things are going to go and, thus, it might be helpful to see the returns and the results with live color commentary from a comedian.

The New York Comedy Festival has that very thing with Guys We F*cked’s very own Corinne Fisher doing an election watch-along featuring NYC staples Kate Willett and Robbie Bernstein. Rather than have a disconcerted inner dialogue with whatever is going to happen, leave it to some of NYC comedy finest to be the sugar for whatever medicine (or poison) we have to take.

Without A Country: Live Midterm Election Watch-Along with Corinne Fisher is set for tomorrow, Tues. Nov. 8th starting at 7PM at the Doped Up Comedy Club in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Tickets are $17.74 and you can (and should) go get them here.

aj holmes, caitlin cook, dave chappelle, new york comedy festival, nyc comedy, that 90s show, the closer

One of the more wide ranging comedy multi-hyphenates we know, Caitlin Cook, joins us as a musical comedian/writer/director/designer/illustrator to not only give us the lowdown on how in flux the NYC comedy scene is (even though it’s supposedly “back”), but the vast spread of projects she has taken on. That includes directing the fantastic solo show/musical hybrid, A.J. Holmes: Yeah, But Not Right Now, working on her own original music, comedy and otherwise, and gearing up to go back on the road (and a million other things as doing all that you can at all times is a prerequisite in NYC comedy). Also, “hot” takes on Chappelle, The New York Comedy Festival, That 90s Show, and more.

Follow Caitlin @thecaitlincook on IG and Twitter and get tickets to the final weekend of AJ Holmes: Yeah, But Not Right Now at aj-holmes.com.

For this year’s New York Comedy Festival, Comedy Central featured in their “Comics To Watch” showcase some folks that we also think you ought to watch. Such comedians include Alex Edelman, Robert Dean, Jak Knight, Emmy Blotnick, Matt Ingebretson, Nate Fernald, and more.

You can watch the showcase taped live at Caroline’s in NYC right here.

Tig Notaro Had Another Amazing, One-of-a-Kind Set at the NYCF

We all were spellbound by her performance that became an album in Live, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that many that were in attendance are writing up her show this morning during the New York Comedy Festival that’s happening right now.

We don’t want to ruin the moment of reading exactly what happened as recounted by The New Yorker’s Andrew Marantz, but we’ll say that Tig took baring it all to a whole other transformative, level, per usual.

This Nov., Bill Cosby, Maria Bamford, Nick Offerman, Hannibal Buress, Marc Maron, Amy Schumer, Bill Maher, Tig Notaro, and more all are headlining the festival.

Running from Nov. 5th-Nov. 9th, tickets are now on sale.
