Over the years, Maria Bamford has done comedy specials in theaters and in her house in front of her parents. However, she hasn’t done both in the same special until now.

In fact, Old Baby, her new special that is now streaming on Netflix, shows Maria doing stand-up in front of a bench, at a movie theater, at a bowling alley, in a nice, big theater in DTLA, and more.

All of this, as far as we can see, lines up with Maria’s life-affirming comedy as it is bringing people from all walks of life, literally, together to enjoy Maria’s expert repertoire of characters and brilliant comedic distillation of her world view, farts and all.

Go enjoy Old Baby now and you just might feel better about the world for a little while.

Backyards, theaters, book stores, bowling alleys, and living rooms, with or without a stage, are where Maria Bamford brings her comedy to the people.

She takes the idea of “stand-up” quite literally in the trailer for her latest special, Old Baby, coming to Netflix. As you can see, there is almost no place that Maria can and will spread her life-affirming humor to.

Her special starts streaming next week on Tuesday, May 2nd on Netflix.

The latest so, you do comdedy? at UCB Sunset on April 24th might just get to the bottom of that.

The Lucas Brothers get really political, specifically taking on Richard Nixon and the aftermath of his presidency in their Netflix special, “The Lucas Brothers: On Drugs”.

Well, they do that in addition to touching on Deion Sanders’ music career amongst other things all in their confidently laid back, slightly meta comedic style.

It’s now streaming on Netflix and actually comes in under an hour and has a great animation at the end too.

Three years ago, the feature film Dear White People sent waves through the film festival circuit as a biting satirical comedy about race relations these days.

Now, the movie has been adapted for Netflix by the original film’s writer/director Justin Simien as a series and the trailer released this week seems like it will maintain the whip smart humor of the movie.

Dear White People, the series, starts streaming on Netflix on Friday, April 28th.

“Louis C.K. 2017″ Is Now Streaming at Netflix

If you’ve been kind of let down this year by certain big time comedians’ specials, we’re pretty sure Louis C.K.’s latest stand-up special will put a smile on your face.

Update 11/12/17: Well, this is probably not the case anymore since Louis CK has admitted to numerous claims of sexual misbehavior over the years.

Louis C.K. 2017 is his latest hour and just started streaming today at Netflix. From it, we witnessed C.K. melding his absurdist tendencies and dissections of his personal life to a pretty perfect mixture.

Even though he is donning a very fancy suit rather than a plain t-shirt or sweater, C.K. is the most C.K. that we’ve seen yet. He has distilled all elements of his comedy into their purest form for ‘2017′, making for a satisfying special in a year where many high profile comedy releases have been either “OK” or janky at best thus far.

If you’re not already watching it, go watch Louis C.K. 2017 as soon as you can.

Netflix Signs Brian Regan for Two Comedy Specials

One by one, Netflix is closer and closer to having original hour long, stand-up specials from all of the biggest comedians working today.

Their latest acquisition will be two comedy special from the legendary Brian Regan, one of which will be taped this summer while Regan is on tour.

The taping will take place at Denver’s Paramount Theatre on June 23rd and 24th and tickets are on sale now.

You can get the rest of Regan’s tour dates here.

Also, note that Netflix has a good number of comedy specials from non-English speaking comedians as well. Their world domination of stand-up specials almost seems nigh.

War Machine Trailer Has Brad Pitt as a General Trying His Darndest to Solve the U.S. Presence in Afghanistan

Give a watch to the trailer to David Michôd’s latest War Machine that follows a well-meaning general trying to make sense of what the U.S. was doing remaining in Afghanistan. Of course, anything dealing with foreign policy is relevant these days, but we’re getting a sense of deliciously wry satire in this film.

We know this might a stretch, but may this, mostly because of Brad Pitt starring in the lead role of a geopolitical dark comedy, be a spiritual sequel of sorts to Burn After Reading?

War Machine starts streaming on Netflix on Friday, May 26th, 2017.

The times, they are a changin’.

It’s been more than a year since Louis C.K.’s last special, he’s doing a special that’s releasing on Netflix first rather than on LouisCK.net, and he’s in a fancy pin striped suit.

Still, the trailer for Louis C.K. 2017 gives vibes of his FX series, Louie, which we’re glad to see.

Also, be glad that you’ll get to see this special next week when it starts streaming on Netflix on Tuesday, April 4th.

Master of None Returning for Season 2 on May 12

Master of None was a really refreshing surprise when its first season came out, which is impressive at this time where we’re in the thick of another wave of shows being based on the lives of comedians. The writing, directing, editing, cinematography was all on another level and was combined with a succinct commentary on timely issues.

So, naturally, we’re excited for May 12th when the series returns to Netflix for its second season.

After all these years, not one, but two Dave Chappelle specials are just one week away.

Both specials start streaming on Netflix on Tuesday, March 21st.

Keegan-Michael Key, Joe Lo Truglio, and Aislinn Derbez round out the cast for what might be both a charming comedy and one of Swanberg’s most plot-driven works to date.

Since it’s International Woman’s Day, we’d like you to take note that Netflix’s releases for stand-up specials for 2017 have included great hours from Jen Kirkman and Cristela Alonzo and, this week, a brand new hour special Amy Schumer.

The aptly titled “The Leather Special” has Amy get as unfiltered as she has ever been all while checking off the box for “wearing a leather outfit for a comedy special”.

International Woman’s Day or not, you should watch all three specials, Just Keep Livin’, Lower Classy, and The Leather Special as soon as you get the chance.

Both Upcoming Dave Chappelle Specials Will Drop at Netflix at the Same Time

Uncategorized

Remember, Dave Chappelle hasn’t released a stand-up special since 2004.

Sure, there’s plenty of stuff that he has done since then, but that gap in time contrasts sharply with many of comedy’s current biggest names cranking specials every year or so.

So, maybe, to make up for lost time, the two specials that Netflix ordered from Dave Chappelle will start streaming at the same time, Tuesday, March 21st and they’ll be coming from “his personal comedy vault”.

See for yourself in the teaser that not one, but two Chappelle specials are just a few weeks away.
